75th Whitley Rose Queen
Day 2022

A fantastic day for the first Rose Queen Day since
COVID-19 hit us. It was wonderful that so many
people came along to enjoy the fun. As Bob Houghton
pointed out, although we are celebrating 70 years of
the longest serving monarch, our 2019 Rose Queen
Laura Buckley has also made Whitley history as the
longest serving Rose Queen.

The Frodsham Silver Band and the retiring retinue led
an enthusiastic procession of Whitley Village school
children, Whitley Pre-school, Alpaca’s, vintage
vehicles, visiting Rose Queen and incoming retinue,
during this fabulous traditional village community
event.

Mollie Edwards Barnard was crowned by Judy Heavey,
supported by Chief Attendant - Macy Edwards
Barnard, Crown Bearer - Percy Bratherton, Small
Attendants - Abigail Walter and Scarlett Brooker and
Train Bearers – Arlo Mitchell and Brodie Wilcox.

The Pre-school looked fantastic in their Outer Space
themed costumes, from aliens and solar systems to
Nasa Scientists and astronauts. Whitley Village School
gave an outstanding performance of songs and music
from the Commonwealth while DLDA dance school

who gave a wonderful medley of dances, ‘Through the
Years’.

The Rose Queen Committee and many volunteers
worked hard to ensure the day ran smoothly and
everyone had lots of fun with the tombola, raffle and
catching up with friends whilst enjoying cream teas,
the BBQ, ice creams, beer/wine in the ‘Whitley Arms’.
Thanks to the Young Farmers for assisting and running
the very popular Obstacle Course and Greasy Pole –
they seemed to be permanently busy, as were the
other favourites, the coconut shy, smashing plates,
and hook a duck.

The Rose Queen Committee would like to thank
everyone who supported the event this year.

Congratulations Mollie. Have a great year as Whitley
