Rose Queen Section Disco - 25th March

The village hall was again alive to the sounds of children enjoying the Rose
Queen disco and games, DJ’d by Jemma Morrell.

The chocolate tombola was VERY popular and I am sure more than one
child was on a chocolate high.

Macy Edwards Barnard won the ‘Name the Bunny’ competition and is now
the proud owner of a Giant Bunny (and more chocolate!).

Excitement built at the highlight of the evening as the
names of the new Rose Queen and her retinue were
drawn by the retiring Rose Queen Laura Buckley, overseen
by Bob Houghton and Suzanne Martin.

Whitley Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

Thursday 2nd June - Save the Date

Major strides have been made for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations at the
village hall on the 2nd June.

A Beacon is being organised, in association with Dutton, to be lit here at the village hall.

Events are still in the planning stage, but are anticipated to be a late afternoon start.

A meeting being held on the 31st Mar will help to firm up the details which will be posted in the Whit-
ley Village News, on the facebook page and on the village website.

We look forward to seeing you there.

WI Garden Group afternoon 26th March

WI members from Whitley and beyond together with their
partners and friends enjoyed a beautiful Spring afternoon
in the company of Sam Youd, former Head Gardener at
Tatton, who talked about why ‘Gardening is good for you”.
From shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) to the helpful bacteria
in the soil, the general feel good factor of being outside in
nature and enjoying the singing of the birds and the rus-
tling of the leaves is appreciated by all of us. Sam answered
questions from members about the merits of bark, what to do with a conifer hedge and which
plants can thrive in a north facing border. A most enjoyable afternoon, thank you Pat Sharp and
Helen Carey for organising it.
