Well Done

Alice

During Lockdown Alice
Glennon (aged 14)
completed a 'Miles for
Makaton' fundraising
challenge where she had
to walk 13 miles
within the week. This was
a huge challenge for Alice
who finds walking difficult.
Distracted by her 'therapy
'dog' Harpo, Alice
completed the challenge raising over £500 for the Makaton
Charity in the process. Many of the walks were taken around
Whitley Village and the Nature Reserve. You can check out her
fundraiser here:

Wild Life in Whitley I thought you might find

this of interest. I was recently given a trail camera – the
sort you leave unattended to capture photos or videos
of wildlife. I have been investigating wildlife in our
garden. I got video clips of rabbits and a stoat that I
knew were there but the attached was a surprise. I
think it is a mink. The picture is a screenshot from the
video and is poor quality because the creature moves
so quickly. On the video it has very fast sinuous motion.

Does anyone know of other Whitley minks?

New Pre-School Play Area Whitley

Community Pre-school children have been busy
enjoying their new play area, which has been
financially supported by Shell, Cheshire West and
Chester, National Lottery Awards and many years of
fundraising by the pre-school staff, as well as past and
present pre-school parents and committee members.

Thanks to Pat Gaskell for securing funding from Shell,
Julia Cooper, who approached our councillors Gibbon,
Marshall and Wright who provided funding for our
green shed which houses our new sand and water
tables and interactive paint panel, leaving the newly
resurfaced area free for other community and family
activities. Whitley Village Hall Management
committee secured Lottery funding towards our new
lookout cabin and colourful double-sided climbing
wall.

Our new play area is a long awaited, welcome

improvement to our community pre-school where we

hope to build numbers over the coming months. The

committee, staff, parents and children would like to

thank all involved for their support. Enquiries for

information should be directed to:

Coffee & Chat Village Hall 17th Sept It was lovely

to open the doors for our first Coffee and Chat since February
and meet up with familiar faces and some new ones! With chairs
and tables suitably distanced, delicious refreshments were served
to 24 who all enjoyed the opportunity to catch up and have a
good old natter.

We hope to hold our next meeting in half-term on Monday
October 26th when the main hall is available again.
Melanie Barber

WI On August 19th President Chris Jones welcomed 25 Whitley WI

members to our first meeting since March. Poor weather necessitated a

meeting inside the Village Hall with face masks. We had an enjoyable hour

catching up with people we hadn’t seen for a while. WI subgroups have

been busy keeping in touch by email and sharing photos of completed

crafts, beautifully tended flower borders and nature in abundance

captured on local walks. Several members have joined in the Cheshire

Federation meetings held on Zoom - one had over 170 members join to

listen to a speaker Peter McCleave who had started his own

charity 10000donors.com to raise awareness of stem cell donations.

As we move into autumn the committee will continue to find innovative

ways of keeping the WI family in touch and adapt to different ways of

meeting. Melanie Barber & Jenny Roberts
