We need to welcome Mr Russell David to Whitley.

Mr David teaches in Willow class for two days a week and is also the new Head of
School here at Whitley Village Primary School; he has been working here since Sep-
tember, 2019.
“Hi, we are the Year 6 pupils and we are here to interview you because you’re the
new Head of School here at Whitley.”
Why do you like teaching?

I like to make a difference in people’s lives and I enjoy working with children. They’re enthusiastic about learning and
they’ve got good personalities and they’re fun to be around and I take a lot of pleasure in people getting better and
learning to do new things and also, preparing those children to be tomorrow’s citizens and leaders who will be look-
ing after me when I’m old. That’s why I want them to do well and be kind and caring so that they will be kind and car-
ing to people like me as I get older.

Excerpt from the interview, hoping to see the full interview on the school and village websites!

Whitley Members Night – October 2019

Speaker Rosie Lee from Weaver Dairy House Farm, gave a wonderfully ener-
getic and humorous talk, with a “woolly” theme, entitled ‘’The Reluctant Shep-
herdess”.
Rosie was challenged, by her mother, to take over the family dairy farm, a
slightly change from her previous career in banking.
This involved a four-year agricultural degree course in Countryside Manage-
ment at Reaseheath College and the purchase of 20 shearling Shropshire
sheep plus one ram. A good ram, she had heard, is worth paying a lot for; so
this she did. It has to have a good physique with good strong back legs and
apparently testicles with a circumference of 40cms would you believe! Over
the years her flock has increased and she never fails to be fascinated by the
personalities and behaviours of her sheep. She now wonders if her son will follow in her footsteps.
Rosie gives back to the community with students from Reaseheath visiting for work experience, where
they have built fences for her and groups of schoolchildren visiting the farm, which she thoroughly enjoys.
Next months meeting incudes the Annual General meeting, followed by making Xmas craft la-
bels under the tuition of Annette.
Our meetings are held at 7.30pm on the first Thursday of each month at Whitley Village Hall.
Guests and new members welcome see www.whitleywi.org.uk for further information

Mothers Union (MU)– October Meeting

Joan Colwell, the Action and Outreach co-ordinator for the diocese of Chester, gave a talk about how much
the Chester MU supports needy people within our county. These include:

• “Away from it All” holidays, enabling 15 families to enjoy a week’s caravan holiday at Presthaven.
• Young girls in local schools get valuable help with ‘Virtual Babies’ and a ‘Pink Box’ scheme.
• Christmas cards are distributed to prisoners in Style and Thorncross.
• Baby Boxes are made for prisoners in the Mothers and Baby unit.
• Release bags are filled for those leaving at the end of their sentences, who often have nowhere to go

Joan finished with a plea and patterns for us to knit for all sorts of good causes. Anyone wishing to help or join in is wel-
come.

Mothers Union is not just about tea, cake and a cosy chat, it is about making a difference.
Next meeting WVH, 13th November, 2pm. “The first Canal, a talk by David Shimmering about the Bridgewater Canal.
