Whitley WI Press Report – May 2019
In the best tradition of the WI, cakes have featured
prominently in recent weeks.
We learnt new cake decorating skills. Anne, our
cake decorating expert showed us how to produce
beautiful flower decorations. However clinical pre-
cision was needed. There was total silence in the
room...nobody could speak...so great was the con-
centration.
Members of the WI provided the freshly baked
cakes for the Community Coffee Morning at Whit-
ley Village Hall, an opportunity to socialise rather
than fundraise. Thank-you to all bakers and helpers.
At our monthly meeting we had an interesting talk by
Andrea Drewitt from the Mersey Gateway Wildlife Trust.
Andrea explained that the Mersey Gateway Trust, which
will manage 1600 hectares of land for a period of 25
years, exists following the construction of the new
Gateway Bridge. The seven kilometre road network
took 25 years to plan and three and a half years to con-
struct and the land is shared between Halton Borough
Council and Warrington Borough Council. The trust
aims to promote and conserve the physical and natural
environment of the upper Mersey estuary and related
areas and monitors and manages the aquatic ecology,
water quality, hydrodynamics and ter-
restrial ecology of the area. For more
information see
http://www.mget.org.uk/
Our meetings are held at 7.30pm on the
first Thursday of each month at Whitley
Village Hall.
Guests and new members welcome see

mation
