Whitley Parish Council Whitley 10K - Sunday 23rd April 17

Dates for HOLY WEEK AND EASTER SERVICES

Lent began on 1 March this year. Up to and including the Fifth Sunday of Lent on 9 April our
WHITLEY ROSE QUEEN Sunday services in the parish will follow our normal pattern. There will be special services
Selection Disco during Holy Week and Easter Sunday.

Friday 31st March 6.30 - 8.30pm This year the service pattern for Holy Week and Easter Sunday will be different to earlier years.
Holy Week and Easter is a very busy time for the Vicar and this is especially the case if all
Whitley Rose Queen AGM three churches have a service on Easter morning. It means an early start, a rush from one

services but one of them has-been moved to the Saturday evening as part of the Vigil service.
Whitley Rose Queen This year the Saturday service will be held at Little Leigh and the Sunday services at Lower
Saturday 10th June Whitley and Aston. The pattern will rotate around the churches, year by year.
Holy Week and Easter is a very special and important time for us and I would like to invite you
MOBILE LIBRARY all to share in the journey from Palm Sunday to Easter Day.
Thursday 13th April
10.10 - 10.40am, Whitley Village Hall Palm Sunday is on 9 April. On that morning there will be a Communion service at Little Leigh
Please use this facility to keep it coming to at 09:30 and Morning Prayer services at Aston and Lower Whitley, both starting at 11:00. The
services will include the Procession of the Palms and the reading of Matthew’s version of the

MOTHER UNION On Maundy Thursday 13 April, we celebrate the Last Supper and the Institution of the
12th April - 2pm Eucharist. The service on that day will be at Lower Whitley. We will start with a simple buffet
meal at 19:00 to remember that Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with his disciples before
Whitley Village Hall we move on the the Communion service at 19:30. That service ends with the stripping of the
Phillip from Aston speaking on Lent altar to remind us that Jesus was stripped of his garments before his Crucifixion. After the
service there will be a short vigil of 30 minutes for those who would like to stay and watch in
FRIENDLY CLUB silence.
Meetings alternative Thursdays 2-4pm On Good Friday, 14 April, there will be two services. The morning service at 10:00 at Little
Leigh is suitable for all ages and the afternoon service at 14:00 at Aston is a quieter, more

Outing to Millstones
Monday 10th April The Vigil service on Easter Eve, 15 April, starts at 19:30 at Little Leigh. This is the service
Dame Vera Lynn 100th Birthday tribute, when we light the new fire to symbolise Christ’s Resurrection. The Easter candles for all our
lunch and entertainment. Leave Village churches will be lit from the new fire. We hear of God’s saving works through the ages and we
renew our Baptismal promises. This leads on to the Easter Eucharist.

On Easter Sunday morning, 16 April, there will be a Communion service at 09:30 at Lower
SERVICES AT ST LUKES CHURCH Whitley and another Communion service at 11:15 at Aston. At these services the Easter
