On August 13, 2021, Center for International Affairs (CIA) had a great honor to welcome H.E.
Fachry Sulaiman Consul of the Republic of Indonesia, Songkhla joined an online meeting
with Walailak University, Thailand and Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), Indonesia.
The meeting warmly welcomed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Acting Director of
Center for International Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mullica Jaroensutasinee, Dean of School of
Science, and Asst. Prof. Jantira Rattanarat, Associate Dean of School of Science, Assoc. Prof.
Dr. Krisanadej Jaroensutasinee, Associate dean and Head of Center of Excellence for
Ecoinformatics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chatchai Kanlayanapaphon, Head of Biology Department.
The meeting was also participated by Dr. Sugianto, M.Si. Dean of Faculty of Mathematics
and Natural Sciences, Dr. Arif Widiyatmoko the coordinator for faculty international affairs
and partnership, and other lecturers from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), Indonesia.
The meeting aim to discuss for the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) collaboration in
lecturers and student exchange, research project development, conferences, seminars and
training workshop. For the benefit of the two universities, a formal agreement will establish
as soon as possible.

CIA and School of Science organized online
workshop on Dengue and Zika Prevention Campaign
47 participants from 19 countries around the globe participated in an online workshop on Dengue and Zika
Prevention Campaign between 2nd -20th August 2021 via zoom application platform. The training supported
by Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Thailand, School of Science, and Center for
International Affairs (CIA), Walailak University.
The orientation program well organized on Monday, 2nd August 2021 at Walailak University, Thailand and
honored presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President for Global Engagement and Faculty
Development, Asst. Prof. Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Director of Center for International Affairs and Assoc. Prof.
Dr. Mullica Jaroensutasinee, Dean of School of Science and Dr. Hataichanok Siriwadhanakul, The Director of
Human Resources Development Cooperation Division, TICA.
The objectives of workshop aim to deeply understanding of dengue and zika control and prevention and
expect the participants to be able to promote technical skills for an improving community in their home
country.

given one of the seventeen SDGs which range from

videos, the students gained a deeper understanding
of the SDGs and the impact that chemistry can have
on a more sustainable future. Because of the current
pandemic, the students have had to work together
virtually helping them develop teamworking and
online collaborative skills that will be vital for them in

Pickled fish-new high value added OTOP Product
developed by WU researcher.
Associate Prof. Dr. Monthon Lertcanawanichakul, WU lecturer and
researcher of School of Allied Health Science revealed that “Pla-som”
or Pickled fish is Fermented food products. The product is very
famous among Thai people in all part of Thailand. He found that
a process of fermentation was in a low quality. Most of
entrepreneur used a Tradition Fermentation and could be
contaminated with dangerous microoganisms or chemical to
cause consumer health problem. He started his research with
feeding lactic bacteria to get oLactobacillus salivarius or
Leuconostoc mesenterodies in liquid culture medium -de
Mann-Rogosa-Sharpe at 35-37 Celsius for 4-6 days and after that
he used centrifuge to spin and remove part of the sludge for
leaven in form of flour by using rice flour and glutinous rice flour
to seize. This research will help to improve Pickled fish for a
better quality favorite product.
On August 20, 2021, Assistant Prof. Dr. Amporn Marddent, Head of Center of
Excellence on Women and Social Security (CEWSS), Walailak University, Thailand in
collaboration with Thai Studies Program, University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia
launched a Virtual book on “Gender, Security, and Women’s Human Rights in
Southern Thailand: Perspectives, Narratives, and Alternatives”. The book was
committed to complete after the end of the 2nd International Seminar on “Gender,
Security and Women’s Human Rights in Southern Thailand” on 26th September 2020.

Mora bright - Nora serum,
New research product for commercial by WU Researcher
Assistant Prof. Dr. Moragot Chatatikun, lecturer of School of Allied Health Science and member of
Innovation and Health Products Excellence Center, Walailak University revealed that her research team from
Walailak University and Chulalongkorn University had studied the extraction of Som-khaek or Garcinia
atroviridis and mangosteen peel. The researcher used Nano-emulsion technology, and Nora serum to
product the new products under brand “Mora bright” to serve customers who have a problem of spot,
blemish, melisma, and freckle. “Mora bright” was rewarding a silver medal from National Research
Council of Thailand (NRCT) in 2020. More over this research published in Pharmacognosy Journal in year
2020, and won the 1st prize of Startup Prototype Showcases of the Entrepreneurial university from the
project of Walailak Enterpreneurial Ecosystem Development 2020 by her student team. The product can

Walailak University -CIA co-host International Conference on
Smart Healthcare Technology and Patient Safety International
Conference on August 27, 2021
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Poonpong Boonbrahm, Dean of School of Informatics, Walailak University was invited by
Changhua Christian Hospital (CCH), Taiwan to present on the topic of “Health Care Technology for Patient
Safety in Thailand” on August 27 August, 2021 at the international conference to celebrate the 125th CCH
Anniversary. His talk focused on “Augmented Reality in Healthcare . The conference co-hosted by Walailak
University - the Center for International Affairs (CIA).
"Patient-centered" and "Patient Safety" are the core concepts and goals of medical hospitals and health
institutions at home and abroad to promote medical quality, and they are also the criteria for moving
toward a high-trust organization; Taiwan Patient Safety Promotion Association has been for many years
Committed to promoting patient safety culture, enthusiastically counseling hospitals at all levels, and
holding observation meetings and workshops to promote patient safety.
