President of Walailak University presided over the first
submission to the THE World University Rankings
on Tuesday, 30th March 2021.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University presided over the
first submission to the THE World University Rankings on Tuesday, 30th March 2021.
On this occasion, the president emphasized that Walailak University is the first young university in
Thailand to be selected as a Frontier Research University by the Ministry of Higher Education,
Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). It’s the only university in this group not currently
ranked by either the THE World University Ranking or QS Asia Rankings. Driven by our aim to be a
world-class university, we are confident that the University will be ranked when the THE Impact
Rankings and QS Asia University Rankings are announced in April 2021 and November 2021,
respectively.
For the THE World University Rankings, Walailak University will be officially qualified to submit in
2022 and expects to be ranked by September 2022. This first submission to the THE World
University Rankings has helped to galvanize our community and we look forward to international

WU First Publication in "Astrophysical Journal" of American
Astronomical Society, USA“

The Center for International Affairs (CIA) would like to congratulate to Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Phongpichit Channuie, Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, Walailak University, on his
success to publish his research article in in the prestigious journal -- "Astrophysical Journal" -
- of American Astronomical Society, USA“. His research is in collaboration with Dr. Ayan
Banerjee (Natal U.), Takol Tangphati, Chulalongkorn University. The full article can be read at

Center of Excellence at Walailak
University was invited to be a speaker at
the research seminar of Middlesex
University Dubai on 24th March 2021.
The seminar conducted via Microsoft
team platform at 4-5 pm.
Her presentation will be focused on the research work seeking a solution assists in managing
the Thai Rubber supply chain such that it may achieve economic gain whilst remaining.

The 1st Walailak University participation in the Rectors Forum of
Russia and Thailand

The First Rectors Forum of Russia and Thailand is aimed to develop social relations between
the countries, foster academic exchange between the universities, increase the value of
scientific research in both countries. The Forum was organized by Russian Union of Rectors
and St. Petersburg State University of Economics (UNECON), Lomonosov Moscow State
University via zoom application.

During the 5 days program from 1st -5th March 2021, Walailak University by Assoc. Prof. Dr.
Surin Maisrikrod, Vice-President for Global Engagement and Faculty Development,
participated in “Education in Russia and Thailand: Dialogue with the Digital Society”. For

How the “Love Language & Psychological Approach can reduce
Depression and the Suicide Rate !!

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saifon Akwarangkoon, lecturer and
experts in psychiatric and mental health nursing, School of
Nursing, Walailak University revealed that children and
young people nowadays are facing the rapidly developing
age-related problem. In addition, the changing of media,
technology, society and environmental conditions causing
more risk and mental health problems especially
depression self harm or suicide. In the community, she
found that there are adults who are stressed from work,
unemployment during the COVID-19 situation, and some of
elderly people who live alone faced more depression and
this is a major problem in public health around the world.
She then designed a program called "Love Language & Psychological Approach” to in depth
apply to the people in the community by the co-operation of NST Primary Educational
Service Area Office 4, Ban Thung Kroa School, Young Vision Network Group for the
development of quality of life, society and environment, Ban Ton Liab Health Promoting
Hospital, Health Service Centers in the community, Village No. 6 and 15, Thasala Sub-
district, Thasala district, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, and the Smile & Smart Center of
the university. Her study found a positive out put to reduce more the problems mentioned.

Online Workshop in March 2021

Online workshop on "Publishing your Research"

The Center for International Affairs organized an online
workshop on “Publishing your Research” on 22nd March
2012 to enhance lecturers and researchers point of view
in engaged scholarship and research impact, research
problem and questions, research with practice,
collaboration and targets journal selection, and
knowledge transfer and publishing in practice – oriented
journal. In this workshop, the participants will be able to
generate the research impact from industries
collaboration and converting their work into publishable
academics paper. The speaker of the workshop is
Professor Teck Yong Eng, Dean of Henley Business
School, University of Reading Malaysia.

“How to publish social science manuscript in the
SCOPUS-indexed journals”

On Wednesday, 3rd March 2021, the School of Political
Science and Laws, Walailak University had organized an
online workshop on “How to publish social science
manuscript in the SCOPUS-indexed journals”. The
workshop honored presented by two speakers Prof. Khoo
Boo Teik and Dr. Michael Montesano. The topics presented
such as Writing and interesting introduction, Review
literature in an article not dissertation, Transforming data
from archive and field work into an article’s contents,
writing a discussion and summary, Methods improving
your writing competencies. For Dr. Montesano, he talked
about Do and don’t in manuscript, Evaluation processes of
an editorial board and reviewers, How to rely to reviewers’
comment properly, and How to edit and revise manuscripts.
