DRAFT 1
● Introduction
As we all know, covid 19 pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome
coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has hit Malaysia since 2020. According to the statistical data
released by the Health Ministry of Malaysia, a total of 4256469 covid 19 cases had been
recorded in Malaysia as of April 4, 2022 (Ministry of Health Malaysia, 2022). The first COVID-19
case in Malaysia was confirmed on 25 January 2020 and several local clusters emerged in
March 2020. Because of the the increasing cases of Covid19 in Malaysia starting from Maarch
2020, the government of Malaysia has implemented movement control orders from 18 March
2020 throughout malaysia to curb the spread of covid19. This pandemic has had a negative
economic impact on Malaysia by devaluing the Malaysian currency and has had a huge social
impact on Malaysia society. Malaysia education system was also affected during the execution
of the movement control order (mco) (Wikipedia, 2020). Therefore, various strategies strategy
were being implemented by the government to recover from the global pandemic including the
implementation of movement control order (mco) and providing financial assistance to
malaysians. However, the responsibility lies not only with the government but also the
community have to implement various strategy to recover after the Covid-19 pandemic.
● Body 1
First of all, covid 19 had huge impact on the economic sector. Many Malaysian lost their
source of income after they are fired from their jobs due to Covid 19 outbreak and
implementation of movement control orders (mco). This is because, many employers had to lay
of some of their employees for various reasons. For example, business closures, workforce
downsizing, companies experiencing critical financial difficulties, partial closures, acquisitions
and relocations of companies(Rohaniza, I., & Yusri, M., 2020). Therefore, many Malaysians
have taken the iniitiative to recover after the global pandemic by starting their own business to
cover the cost of living. For instance, they run small-scale online food and clothing businesses.
This is because , online businesses are easier to run and handle because sellers can sell
products anywhere and anytime using electronic devices such as laptop and mobile phones.
There is also group of Malaysians who provides online shopper services. This service has
received encouraging response because customers could buy household items by using the
online shopper service without having to be exposed to the risk of Covid 19 infection when
going out to buy groceries.
DRAFT 2
● Body 2
In addition, the global pandemic also has negative impact on education sector in
Malaysia. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the schools are closed for long periods of time and
students are unable to attend school to undergo face -to -face learning with the teachers. In this
scenario, parents play a key role in ensuring their children are able to undergo an affective
learning process even while studying at home. For instance, parents can enroll their children in
extra classes and tuition to ensure their children do not fall behind in lessons. Online tuition
classes are more flexible than face-to-face classes because students only need an internet
network and electronic gadgets to join tuition classes anywhere and anytime. For example, there
are many online tuition classes provided by non -governmental organizations (NGO) such as Mc
Plus, My Tutor, and IntTuition that guarantee their students excellence. Beside that, students
can also get unlimited learning materials for fre from social media platforms like youtube. This is
because, there are teachers who are starting to create their own youtube channels that provide
learning videos. The videos can be used as an additional learning resources.
● Body 3
Moreover, the pandemic has not only affected Malaysia in terms of economy and
education but also the social relationships between our people. For example, because of the
restrictions, people are not allowed to perform prayrsd at Mosques. This led people to grow
appart from eachother as they could not meet other people and interact them. Although there
had been many technologies that people could use in orer to converse with each other, it is
different from talking face to face. When people talk face to face, they show body language,
which enables a better understanding of how the person that is talking feels by watching how
they react (“What Are the Benefits of Face to Face Communication?”, 2021). With that being
said, activites involving interaction amongst our society should be held. For instance, gotong
royong. A neighbourhood could hold a gotong royong by cleaning the mosque and redecorate it.
After that, they could also organize a meal togethr where each person could bring their own
food from home to share with others. However, everyone should always be cautious by
practicing social distancing as the virus is still spreading. Although these activities may seem
simple, but it is a great way to strengthen their bonds again.
DRAFT 3
● Body 4
Furthermore, according to the Entrepreneurship Development and Cooperation Ministry
(Medac), since the government first implemented movement restrictions in March to halt the
spread of the coronavirus, more than 30,000 firms have closed throughout Malaysia (“30,000
Malaysian businesses have folded up since movement curbs in March”, 2020). In order to help
our country recover after the pandemic, our society should help support local products. This
could help entrepreneurs in our country grow after the pandemic as they may have been in a
slump during that time. When a lot of people support their business, their income could grow
and at the same time it would alos increase our country’s economy. One of the ways that could
be done as a way to help these people is by attending campaigns conducted to promote local
products. For example, “Karnival Jualan” that was held last year on 13 November at Dataran
Cenang, Pulau Langkawi. Some of the homegrown brands were Swag which offers 15 personal
care products, Nuri Enterprises that sells food-based products and Lieza Anggun Enterprise
with their cosmetic-based items (“Buy local products in support of fellow Malaysians”, 2021).
With the support from our own society, it gives them motivation to continue their bussinesses
and help change their lives.
● Closure
In a nutshell, there are many ways our society could carry out in order for us to live like
how we used to. We should not only rely everything on others and even the government
themselves. We should take our own initiatives in order for our country to continue thriving and
succeeding in many aspects especially economy. Not only that, but it if our society manages to
make a change, it could also help ensure that everyone has a better life. Besides, when our
society join hands together by supporting one another and conducting activities that involve
each other in order to recover after the pandemic, other countries would view us positively. On
top of that, it also unites our people and it is extremely important for a society to practice unity
amongst them. Without unity, fights and arguments would occur everywhere and people would
not be able to live in harmony. Mattie Stepanek, who was a well-known poet in America once
said, “unity is strength…when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be
achieved” (McDonald, 2022).
