NOVENA TO THE HOLYSPIRIT1FOREWORDThe novena in honor of the Holy Spirit isthe oldest of all novenas since it was firstmade at the direction of Our Lord Himselfwhen He sent His apostles back to Jerusalemto await the coming of the Holy Spirit on thefirst Pentecost.It is still the only novena officially prescribedby the Church. Addressed to the ThirdPerson of the Blessed Trinity, it is apowerful plea for the light and strength andlove so sorely needed by every Christian.The Novena begins on the day after the Solemnity of the Ascension, Friday of the 6th Week of Easter,even if the Solemnity of the Ascension is transferred to the 7th Sunday.

It enables us to penetrate theinner meaning of revealed truths and through them to bequickened to newness of life.Our faith ceases to be sterile and inactive but inspires amode of life that bears eloquent testimony to the faiththat is in us; we begin to \"walk worthy of God in all thingspleasing and increasing in the knowledge of God.\"
