Practical Skill 4.5 | Record and action in accordance with
client instruction [PM-04-PS05]

Scope of Practical Skill:

Given shipping instructions, applicable legislation, standard operating procedures,
confirmed shipping quotations/estimates, proforma/commercial/tax invoices, packing lists,
international commercial terms notes, process flows, transaction documents, etc., you as
the learner will be required to engage in and complete the following practical activities:

Instructions to the Facilitator(s) and Assessor(s) for each of the tasks for each of the
activities and outcomes:

1. Prior to assessment – the learner should be provided with or granted access to work
instructions, checklists, work areas, case studies, activity documents, equipment,
templates, health and safety guidelines, control mechanisms, standard operating
procedures, and any other necessary items to utilise on the completion of the
relevant activities and to subsequently package and present same as evidence to
their assessor.

2. During the pre-assessment interview/exercise, the assessor must ask the learner to
clarify their understanding of the tasks by answering any additional questions which
may be necessary.

Prior to recording and action in accordance with client instructions, it is imperative and
proper to ensure that certain pre-requisite information is at hand or received from the
customer/client (importer/exporter). This information will enable you to follow due
processes and procedures which will ensure successful compliance to all relevant
regulations and requirements pertaining to the movement of the goods.

Some of the standard documentation required is as follows (where applicable):

5. Certificate of Origin

6. Transport Document (example: Bill of Lading, Air Waybill, Inland Bill of
Lading or Consignment Note)

7. Insurance certificate, confirmation, or policy schedule if applicable or
required.

8. Any applicable supporting or pertinent document(s) that may be required
for customs clearance and/or any other government interrelated
department, or financial institution related compliances e.g.,

a. Product literature, blueprints, specifications, brochures
b. Standards certificates e.g., from NRCS and SABS.
c. Inspection/Quality Certificate
d. Agricultural, environmental, health certificates or permits.
e. Shipper’s declaration for dangerous goods
f. Documentary credits (e.g., Letter of Credit)
g. Other.
