Cargo Selection
Specialised Cargos
• A number of agents offer airfreight services for refrigerated cargoes. In such cases
they require temperature controlled facilities at their consolidation and
deconsolidation warehouse facilities. These will consist of cold rooms and freezers.
• In general, dangerous goods may not be placed in airfreight consolidations and
therefore dangerous goods facilities are not found in consolidation facilities.
Security Considerations
• At this point it bears mentioning that security in such warehouses is of primary
concern. In order to prevent theft of cargo, all personnel need to be thoroughly
screened before being employed in such facilities; there need to be cameras which
are monitored by trained personnel and which can adequately scrutinise all
activities in the warehouse and there need to be special security areas where high
value/ high risk cargo is kept.
