VACANCIES
Nkhoma CCAP Hospital invites applications from qualified and well experienced
applicants for the positions of Senior Nursing Officer; Nursing Officer); Environmental
Health Officer, Senior Nursing Sister; Laboratory Technician, Lab Assistant;
Ophthalmic Clinical Officer/Cataract Surgeon; and Senior Medical Assistant tenable
at Nkhoma Hospital, Nkhoma Eye Department and Chinthembwe Health Centre
respectively. The positions are offered on permanent basis.
1) Senior Nursing Officer Grade H (1)
Duties/Responsibilities
Supervising the provision of nursing care services for the entire hospital
Developing plans for implementation of nursing policy
Evaluating activities of nursing officers
Assessing departmental staff requirements and deployment of staff
Providing nursing care to patients
Analysis of nursing services information and dissemination to all
stakeholders through submission of weekly reports
Representing the PNO in Management Meetings and IPC meetings
Personal specifications
Bsc in Nursing and Midwifery with a minimum of 4 years experience at a
senior level
Must be registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi
Must be conversant with modern management skills
Good report writing, organizational and interpersonal skills
2) Nursing Officer Grade I (1)
Duties/Responsibilities
Carrying out all procedures and treatment
Making rounds in wards
Supervising all operational activities
Ensuring that all life saving and emergency apparatus and drugs are
available
Directing patients to appropriate sections
Supervising recording of data in relevant registers
Analysis of nursing services information and dissemination to all
stakeholders through submission of weekly reports
Personal specifications
BSc in Nursing and Midwifery with a minimum of 2 years hands on
experience
Must be registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi
3) Senior Nursing Sister Grade J (1)
Duties/Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for provision of patient care in:-
Ensuring that patients receive appropriate treatment
Reviewing patients previously treated
Conducting family planning, under five and antenatal clinics
Ordering drugs and wards resources
Recording of data in relevant registers
Personal specifications
State Registered Nurse holding a University Diploma in Nursing
Must be registered with Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi
Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in general nursing in a big
hospital
4) Environmental Health Officer Grade I (1)
Duties/responsibilities
Coordinating the implementation of community mortality surveillance
system
Coordinating the implementation of indoor residual spraying program
Coordinating the activities of the health surveillance assistants including:
Planning, organising and managing pollution control activities
Ensuring adherence to environmental health standards within the health
facility.
Disease surveillance and outbreak control in Nkhoma Hospital catchment
area.
Community sensitisation
Monitoring and evaluation of environmental health programs in Nkhoma
Hospital catchment area
Enforcing laws and regulations relating to environmental health and safety.
Collaborating with other stakeholders involved in environmental activities.
Personal specifications
Degree in Environmental Health
Minimum of 2 years working experience.
5) Ophthalmic Clinical Officer/Cataract Surgeon Grade J (2)
Duties
Performing eye examinations and prescribing treatment
Performing cataract operation and other surgeries
Supervise the coordination and running of mobile outreach clinics in consultation
with Project Director and Administrative Officer
Supervising junior staff
Act as in charge of clinical staff in times when Ophthalmologist is out.
Draft operating lists
Auditing cataract operations
Attend to outpatients and in patients in the Eye department as well as follow up on
admitted eye patients in the General Hospital
Responsible for monthly outpatient statistics, operating theatre, CCF and mobile
clinics.
Be involved in training junior staff and visiting elective students
Personal specifications
Must have an Advanced Diploma in Ophthalmology
Minimum of one year hands on experience
6) Laboratory Technician Grade K (2)
Duties
Analyzes samples of biological material for chemical content or reaction
Entry of results into computers and registers for storage
Establishing and monitoring quality assurance programs to ensure accuracy of lab
results
Collecting and studying blood samples to determine number of cells, their
morphology and compatibility for transfusion purposes.
Reporting of specimen results
Providing on the job training to students and supervising junior laboratory staff
Provision of technical information about test results to physicians, family members
and researchers.
Setting up, cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment
Personal specifications
Diploma in Laboratory Technology acquired from a recognised institution
Minimum of 1 year hands on experience
7) Laboratory Assistant Grade L (2)
The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for provision of assistance to the Laboratory
Technician in the following duties:
Examining specimens
Preparing specimen containers and reagents
Receiving specimen from wards and out-patient department
Processing specimens.
Reporting specimen results
Cleaning laboratory equipment and apparatus
Recording of data in relevant registers
Personal specifications
Certificate in Laboratory Technology acquired from a recognised institution
Minimum of 1 year hands on experience
8) Senior Medical Assistant Grade L (Chinthembwe Health Centre) (1)
Duties/Responsibilities
Managing out-patient department of the hospital.
Diagnosing and screening patients.
Prescribing treatment for patients.
Referring patients for laboratory tests.
Recording patients’ data in relevant registers.
Referring patients to surgical or medical specialists.
Aggregating, analyzing and interpreting data.
Disseminating information to all relevant stakeholders.
Personal specifications
Certificate in Clinical Medicine and registered with Medical Council of Malawi.
Minimum of two years hands on experience
Experience in managing a health centre is an added advantage
