This competition is also open to those with Mathematics as their major subject as well as for those who are not Mathematics students.
NSC 2023 Sample Questions Topic: Data description For the following 11 scores, calculate the IQR and determine if any scores are outliers. 33, 64, 28, 54, 72, 68, 69, 42, 54, 98, 41 Note: Any value that is 1.5*IQR greater than the third quartile is an outlier and any value that is 1.5*IQR less than the first quartile is also an outlier. Topic: Probability A box contains 8 red balls, 6 green balls, and 4 blue balls. You randomly draw 3 balls from the box, one at a time without replacement. What is the probability that you will draw exactly 2 green balls and 1 red ball in any order (e.g., green, green, red, green, red, green or red, green, green)? Topic: Permutation & Combination In a singing competition, there are 8 contestants, including Ahmad, Ben, Chong, and David. The judges want to select a group of 3 contestants to perform a special ensemble. a) How many different ways can the judges select the ensemble of 3 contestants, regardless of their roles (e.g., lead singer, backup singers)? b) In how many ways can they select the ensemble if Ahmad must be the lead singer, and the other two are backup singers? Topic: Probability Distribution Scores on a standardized test follow a normal distribution with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. What is the minimum score needed to be in the top 10% of test-takers?
