Health Fair Photo Recap

September is Prostate Awareness Month

If you are male and currently enrolled in Plymouth Harbor Medical Insurance plan while using an
in-network provider, a prostate cancer screening is covered at 100%. The deductible is also waived
making the screening an essential part of your yearly physical! It is recommended that men begin
this screening at age 45, although you may need to start screening at an earlier age depending on
whether or not you are at increased risk. Increased risk may include having a family history of prostate
cancer (especially a father, brother, or son), and/or if you are African-American.

Prostate Cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in men. When detected early, one has
a much better chance of successful treatment of the disease. It’s important to know that Prostate
Cancer may cause no signs or symptoms of its existence in early stages. If it is a more advanced
stage, symptoms may include trouble urinating, decrease force in the stream of urine, discomfort in
pelvic area, bone pain and more. Discuss prostate cancer screening with your doctor. Together, you
can decide what’s best for you!
