About Me-
Umut studied architecture at Yildiz Technical University, and continued his studies in the area of Architecture Urban Design
at Stadelschule Architecture Class. He had the opportunity to study with Jefrey Kipnis, Mark Wigley and David Ruy. His work
is focused on theoretical criticism of public spaces and contemporary urban problems related to community well-being.
He worked on his master thesis project with Peter Trummer based on readings about authorship in architecture such as
Dead of Author by Roland Barthes.
Between 2012 - 2015, he has worked as an architect and graphic designer in Istanbul, and he had full responsibility to
outline architectural design of his projects. Since 2017, he has been working as an experienced architect with a focus on
theater, cinema and opera building projects across globe. He is enthusiastic about his ability to deliver projects with an
expectional level of detail and accuracy.

Function: Movie Industry Museum
The project is based on the cultural industry. The
current situation of historical buildings, especially the ones in
Historical Peninsula have been criticised, as they play the role
of ‘Istanbul’s memorybook’. It has been critisized that even
though historical buildings are untouchable, they should not
be so “idle”.
A historical inn “Büyük Valide Han” which was left to be in an
‘idle position’ for many years, has been planned to be convert-
ed into a modern building and put into service of public again.

The idle inn 'Büyük Valide Han', was Public spaces among All impractical spaces Selected idle inn that will
actually one of the biggest symbols of intense urban fabric related with inns open public use
Istanbul and one of the most popular
places to socialize. As time goes by, the inn
lost this specialty. With the contrarian
design in this project, the aim is to evolve
the place into Istanbul's focal point and
meeting center for people again.
This new design should be a design which
neither Istanbul nor 'Büyük Valide Han has
in their historical memory. In order to raise
awareness, first of all people should ques-
tion the place and the circulation. This is
why a design as such has been chosen.

Energy and climate: In ribbon buildings, gallery spaces have been designed for the maxi-
mum solar heat in directly sun-exposed sides. Heat sink surface area increased in this way.
Each building is designed to have a side both in the North and the South. This is how natural
ventilanion is provided. Since buildings are ribbon, heat surface area has been optimised and
heat loose has been minimised.

they cohere, they form a balance.

Game and Interfaces
Software collapses the field of visual effects, and enables messy encounters between drawing, painting, photography, cinema,
games and all possible images of architecture. The tools we use model us back. Software is an apparatus. How to overcome the
representational lockdown? Through DADA-like detournements, artistic eruptions of life force into the heart of the technological
sublime? Through restless accumulations and remixes, through sampling of all possible search spaces? Computer graphics
tropes as elements of the digital vernacular, games as unfiltered expressions within contemporary culture. High Definition
Abstraction. Raw materials of software, a new multiplication of the author through the entanglement with non-human agency, a
collapse of Albertian window, the mirror of Brunelleschi and the machine vision regimes. And in the midst of it all, a sensuous
unraveling: the garden in the machine.

Each student group took responsibility for
different sections in the University
campus and tried to bring solutions for
their respective sections.
My area, student socializing spaces, was
one of the most important parts of the
campus. In this concept, 'Multipurpose
Areas' have been created.

We refuse to build on the island and to participate in the politics of gentrification. We
believe that the utopian project of architecture is dead, which is the precise reason
for reinventing it.
Our aim is to preserve the magic and the stories, and invent new ones. We propose
a Platform with 33 buildings, encircling the island, fulfilling the requested
programme. The island becomes an oasis and the buildings take the role of strang-
er Venetian characters congregating for a Bal Masque.
The real is a strange place, get over it.

Function: Theater LP 1-5
The project is the design of the cinema floor of a shop-
ping mall, in the town of Pushkino. A town nearby Moskow,
Russia. It is a cinema complex with 6 auditoriums.
The demand from the customer in the project was to have a
playful design. Colors and forms have been designed accord-
ingly. The materials were prefabricated materials. Thereby, the
production process and installation process have been acceler-
ated, and the project has been completed in a timely manner.
