MAUM EDUCATION DIRECTOR
SIR GOLDEN GADOH Not many people know this.
I am an alumnus of this school. Not only that, I started here
from Form One. I wish I had started from Grade 1 or even
Pre-school. At the time of writing this message, I remember
a time when an 'urang putih' came to give a talk during a
chapel period. Later in my teens, I understood he was the
President of our Sabah Mission. In that chapel period, he
said in Bahasa Malaysia with heavy orang putih telor,
"khamu tidak boleh hanya reflectors of other men's
thought". He must have been referring to the words of the
Spirit of Prophecy in the book of Education that reads, " the
work of true education ... is to train the youth to be thinkers,
and not mere reflectors of other men's thought". That is the
product of Adventist education - not mere reflectors of
other men's thought. You are a product of Adventist
education. Act beyond mere reflector.
In today's world, it is easy to be mere reflectors of other
men's thought. How? The technology of copy + paste has
become so easy. Sometimes you don't even press Ctrl-C
then Ctrl-V. We mere forward a post to do that. Immediately
after re-posting, we may feel we have done a great
contribution to humanity.
What if that was an act of "mere reflector" ? Don't get me
wrong, reflectors are good. If all surfaces do not reflect light,
we will need to have hundreds of bulbs to illuminate a
room. With abundant surface that reflect light, a few
sources of light are enough. However, the truth in a passage
shared over the Internet should not be for others only but
also for the reflector. Message of truth that we share
becomes more captivating when others read the message
and see it in us or taste it in us. So, how not to be mere
reflectors? Live the message you read so that when you
repost them you add value to it.

MESSAGE
SAB MISSION EDUCATION DIRECTOR
S IR OCTAVIUS GULING Greeting and congratulation to SASS for this another issue of
special report from Sekolah Menengah Advent Tamparuli. Thanks
to the editorial of this publication for giving me an opportunity to
express my thought. SMAT is one of the two Adventist secondary
schools in Sabah which has contribute to the life of many. SMAT is
a place where young people has the opportunity to reach their full
potential through Adventist Education System provided in SMAT.
Congratulation to the school administration, pastor, teachers,
school board and parents for their collaborative effort in making
sure that all their students get the best services from the school.
The Adventist education system reflects the heavenly "society"
God intended for human. It gives us tools and resources to
become wiser and healthier. It provides us opportunities to look
beyond ourselves and to serve others. It connects us as friends, as
partners and as a community. Most importantly, it helps us fulfil
our potential of being "good" citizens, eagerly anticipating an
eternity with the God who created us.
Adventist Education is about teaching a whole and complete life,
for a lifetime.
My message to all of our schools especially SMAT to
continuously be the best education centre where we create a
society which not only good citizens for this world but citizens
which fit for heaven.
I do believe that challenges and obstacles come across our
way but we do also has strong conviction that God has His Master
Plan laid for His schools.
To all of our parents, I urge that we embrace Adventist
Education System by sending your children to any nearest
Adventist School. We have 12 Primary Adventist Schools with
attached Adventist Kindergarten and few more other Kindergarten
schools throughout Sabah. We hope to expand to other area soon
and let's pray for this mission.
And, to all the current students, you have come to the right
place to grow. Growing harmoniously in physical, mental, social
and spiritually. You have come to the best school where you are
not only equipped for service in this world but for the greater
service in the world to come. Be a teachable student and you will
not regret. Student is not to be molded bu to be unfolded where
everyone has his or her potential for success.
I wish everyone a blessed journey to excellence.

WHAT MAKES US CHRISTIAN TEACHERS?
Inspired by the Holy spirit.
First, Christian teachers should be willing to be inspired and be led by the Holy Spirit.
They should be able to live within them and share the fruits of the Holy Spirit. They guide teachers the way
they think, talk and act. There is no other powerful equipment and gear to impart knowledge than with the
influence of the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-
control; against such things there is no law" Galatians 5:22, 23.
Oh, how weak and helpless are we without the Spirit of God and who are we to claim Christian teachers
without the Holy Spirit from within?
"If the teachers will open their own hearts to receive the spirit, they will be prepared to co-operate with it in
working for their students ... to make make wonderful transformations". CP page 68.
Have a strong sense of mission. As Christian teachers our mission needs to go beyond just teaching subject
matters. We must realise that God has called us to His classroom to evangelise and change lives and bring
students to Jesus Christ.
"Teachers are to do more for their students than to impart a knowledge of books. Their position as guide
and instructor of the youth is most responsible, for to them is given the work of moulding mind and
character". CA page 65.
Possess and share Christians values. Christian teachers must share values that can serve as role models
and provide strong Christ-like example for the students. Teachers should demonstrate Christian characters
and biblical principles in their lives and daily dealings with students. "Teachers who undertake this work
should possess a well-balanced, symmetrical characters, refined in manner, neat in dress, careful in their
habits ... true Christian courtesy that wins confidence and respect. Teachers should be himself what he
wishes his students to become". CP page 65.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
World Chess Day
20th July
Did you know?
About 70% of the adult population (US, UK, Germany, Russia, India) has
played chess at some point in their lives, 605 million adults play chess
regularly.
Mathematically there are more possible games of chess than there are
atoms in the Observable Universe.
It is possible to checkmate an opponent in chess in two moves.
The oldest living Grandmaster is Yuri Averbakh who celebrated his 100th
birthday in May 2022.
