StoryWalk: The StoryWalkTM program combines the benefits
of physical activity, time outdoors in nature, literacy and family
time by taking children’s books and posting them, in pieces,

summer, and fall! Start your walk at the lowest parking lot on the
Ring Trail, continue along the west side of Ring, and then up the
Witch Hazel Trail to finish on the summit. Distance is 1.3 miles.

Adopt-a-Trail

The Mount Agamenticus Conservation Region depends upon
volunteers to help maintain 40+ miles of popular trails. The Adopt-a-
Trail program allows volunteers to take responsibility for stewardship
of a specific trail. Adopters report issues, clear drainages, trim brush,
collect litter, and more. Participants contribute at their own level,
and on their own schedule, with a minimum requirement of two trail

26 Sam Leal is currently the Head Basketball Coach at the University of
Maine, Farmington. His experience includes coaching positions at
Summer 2021 Bates College, and Springfield College, where he helped lead the team
to the school’s only trip to the NCAA Final Four in Salem, VA.

Sam is a 2010 graduate of York High School. He started as a freshman
at Berwick Academy, and led the varsity team in scoring and assists.
After transferring to York High School, he was a two-year captain, and
earned Western Maine All-Conference honors as a senior. Leal went
on to attend University of Maine at Farmington, where, as captain,
he led UMF to 21 wins in his junior season and a North Atlantic
Conference Championship. Sam loves to come back to York every
summer to coach at Oceanside Hoop Camp, and is continually proud
seeing our campers follow dreams to play at the collegiate level.

Double Trouble at the Nubble - Wendy and Becca Rogers

Wendy Rogers

For more than 8 years, we have been fortunate to have
Wendy Rogers’ bright smile and warm welcome at the
Nubble Gift Shop. Wendy is proud to be a true native,
born at York Hospital. Happily married to her husband,
Bob, for 28 years, and counting, they have raised two
wonderful children, Christopher and Rebecca. In her spare
time Wendy enjoys a long walk, crocheting, baking, basket
weaving, photography and, most of all, spending endless
hours with family and friends. Wendy says she loves
working at the Nubble Gift Shop, and enjoys meeting
people from all around the world. She gets excited to
share the history of York with all visitors, and says the best
part of her job is working alongside her daugher, her
co-workers, and all the amazing volunteers!

Rebecca Rogers The success of the Gift Shop is, in large part, due to all their hard work,
positive outlook, and their willingness to step up through thick and thin, to

The Parks and Recreation Department will once again sponsor a
VIRTUAL York Days 5K Road Race. Free T-shirts will be given to anyone
registered by June 28th. Kick off the week-long York Days Celebration
with our scenic race, whether you run it in your neighborhood or
the certified race course. Proceeds from this race benefit York Parks
& Recreation Department Youth Programs. This race is one of 7
