This one looks like a wolf because every Friday the full moon turns into a large half-human, a half-wolf creature with large round eyes full of fire, dark hair like night, and stinks. He spends the night wandering until dawn, noticing that only dogs howl but not attacking him. They also say that the only way to kill a werewolf is with a weapon, a knife, or a blessing bullet, so it can transform into a human and release itself from its eternity, and punishment. Discrimination along religious lines is punishable by law, and the government generally respects people's religious freedom. However, apart from Christianity and to a lesser extent Umbanda and Judaism, other world religions such as Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism, etc., have a negligible presence in country. The belief of Christian of Uruguay has influenced to their ruler Roman Catholicism was the dominant religion in Uruguay, but Uruguay had long been a secular society. In 1981 the nation was divided into 221 parishes and had 204 diocesan priests. In addition, there were 374 monks and 1,580 nuns. About threequarters of all babies were baptized in the church. In the 1963 census, 62 percent of Uruguayans had declared themselves Catholics. However, according to data compiled by the Uruguayan Bishops Conference in 1978, only 105,248 citizens regularly attended mass. This figure represented less than 4 percent of the population. Attendance at mass was, however, slightly higher in the interior of the country and substantially higher among women. There was also evidence that religious observance was higher among the upper classes than among the middle and lower strata of society. In the late 1980s, an estimated 66 percent of Uruguayans were professed Roman Catholics, but less than half of the adult population attended church regularly. 19
Christians do not have any religious restrictions on what they can eat or drink. They believe that this freedom is a result of the life and teaching of Jesus Christ. Jesus and his first followers were Jewish and stuck to the food laws of the Jewish people set out in the Old Testament part of the Bible. These dated from around 1450BC and meant Jews could not eat food such as pork and shellfish because it was likely to make them ill. But not long after Jesus, the early Church realised that they were released from the restrictions which Jewish people followed. By that time, the Church had Jewish and non-Jewish members so it agreed on a compromise recorded in the Bible book Acts where followers are advised not to eat food which might offend each other. This was more about being culturally sensitive and honouring each other, than abiding by new rules. Nowadays some Christians choose to become vegetarians or vegans. As with people of no faith, this can be because of the environmental impact of eating meat or for other ethical reasons. But no-one is obliged to give up meat or alcohol because they are Christians. The belief of Christian of Uruguay has influenced to their food to earn of living 20
