It gives immense pleasure to present to you the 6th edition of Aurangabad International Film Festival. The festival has
been receiving overwhelming response for past 5 years, giving us the much needed motivation and determination to
bring a bigger and better festival. It is a great opportunity for film lovers to watch a bouquet of critically acclaimed films
from all over the world. The festival is also a great opportunity for film enthusiasts and budding film makers to interact
with each other to enrich their thoughts, ideas and stories.
Our region is replete with history and culture. We are witnessing an explosion of talent in all creative fields. It is our
earnest endeavor to provide a platform for this talent to nurture and flourish.
We have added many new dimensions to the festival this year. We held a short film competition for the film makers of
Marathwada. Nine selected short films would be screened during the festival. The winner would be given a cash award
and 'Kailasha Trophy'.
We held seven film appreciation seminars in various colleges which were attended by more than a thousand
participants. Senior director Girish Kasaravalli will be felicitated with life time achievement Padmapani award. The
unique feature of the festival this year is the retrospective of celebrated director Ingmar Bergman specially brought to
us by the Swedish consulate. There are other special features also to mark the birth centenary of GD Madgulkar, PL
Deshpande and Sudhir Phadke.
We aim to make AIFF one of the biggest international film festivals to reckon with, together with your help and support.
I am confident that our vision will come true. I fervently hope that the festival will keep growing from strength to
strength and emerge as inseparable part of our socio-cultural milieu of our region.

I am delighted to announce that 6th Aurangabad International Film Festival will be showing renowned movies of all
geners from all over the world. Along with that the Master class and Seminars will enrich the knowledge and awareness
of the audience about cinema and its several aspects. With immense pleasure, I announce that we are able to fulfill what
we had promised in the 5th AIFF and that MGM Film Arts Department has successfully started.
I hope that the journey of cinema in this region keeps growing towards success with the help of audience and all the
supporters of Aurangabad International Film Festival.

Message
Wish you all a very Happy New Year and a warm welcome to all the distinguished
guests, passionate film loving delegates and friends in the media who care for cinema
and look forward to the film festival. The 6th AIFF is here with the best of cinema
from home and abroad, a seminar, master class, and poster exhibition to bring you an
enriching experience. Before speaking of the programming of this year’s festival, let
me share with you an exceedingly encouraging event with great pleasure. As an
outcome of the success of the 5th AIFF, one of the organizers, Mahatma Gandhi
Mission has opened up a state of art film school, MGM Film Art. It is an exhilarating
experience for all of us to observe the training of the first batch of 40 students
wherein some of them have already made short films which are now a part of the
short film competition. It is the rarest thing to happen in any film festival and we are
immensely proud of this development.
AIFF has made it a practice to add innovative and dynamic features to its programming. We initiated the competition within Indian
cinema in the 5th edition, and now AIFF introduces another exciting category of Short Film Competition exclusively for aspiring
filmmakers from the Marathwada region of Maharashtra where the Aurangabad International Film Festival takes place. We believe
that it will create a vital platform for the local talent to become global. AIFF received 35 entries within a month that pose a challenge
for the selection jury to choose the best for the competition.
AIFF has been conducting film appreciation workshops prior to the festival. Taking the tradition forward, AIFF has trained a battalion
of teachers this year and sent them to colleges across the city to create a discerning audience for the festival. As a result, delegate
registration has increased considerably. The success story of a festival can only be built with vibrant programming and the right kind
of audience. AIFF endeavors to take this agenda further, year after year, to achieve its goal to create a niche for the city of Aurangabad
and its entire cultural environment.
AIFF salutes the giants of the Indian and world cinema on their 100th birth anniversary, viz, P.L. Deshpande, G.D. Madgulkar, Sudhir
Phadke, Naushad, Snehal Bhatkar, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Manna Dey, Shamshad Begum, and Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman. It is
also the 150th birth anniversary of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi and hence AIFF has invited renowned scholar Amrit
Gangar to present a specially designed audio-visual supported by his insightful talk on Gandhi and cinema.
It is yet another proud moment for all of us at AIFF that the talented filmmaker, winner of 14 National Awards including 4 Golden
Lotus Awards, Girish Kasarvalli will be awarded Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award in the opening ceremony of the 6th edition
of the festival. We salute him for his extensive contribution to Indian Cinema.
I am particularly happy, as the veteran filmmaker N. Chandra is heading the international jury that has been set up for the Indian
competition. His other colleagues have strong reputations in the film fraternity, Faizal Khan, Film & Art Critic and Curator, Marianne
Borgo, French Actress and filmmaker, Dasoo Vaidya renowned poet and lyricist and Siraj Syed, Film Critic.
For the benefit of the upcoming filmmakers, AIFF has invited Umesh Kulkarni, an internationally acclaimed filmmaker to conduct a
Master Class on Short Film Making.
Cinema is a science-based art. But lately, technology is dominating the scenario so aggressively that the art has been pushed to back
seat. AIFF feels that it is high time to have a brainstorming session on the issue and so we have planned a seminar, ‘With Mobile Phone
Everyone Is A Filmmaker.’ Reputed personalities like the actor, producer Sandeep Kulkarni, Founder Director of Spandan Cinema
Movement Amarjeet Amle, filmmaker Tejas Deoskar, and film critic Amol Udgirkar are on the panel.
I want to take this opportunity to thank the National Film Archives of India, Pune, its director Prakash Magdum, his colleagues Arati
Karkhanis and Kiran Dhivar for their tremendous cooperation. They have provided strong support for the poster exhibition, which is
the most popular feature of the festival, besides sharing some of the classics from their vast collection.
Let me thank one and all for organizing the 6th AIFF on such a large scale and congratulate them for the success that, I am sure, will be
achieved at the end of the festival.

Synopsis: Madhavi Sawant is a conscientious and proficient
prison officer, a staunch believer in transparent and
disciplined prison administration. She strives to transform
the corrupt administration of prisons. In her attempt to clean
the crooked system, she uncovers the corrupt nexus of prison
administrators and politicians. The people she hurts in this
process are unsettled and try to avenge for her deeds. They
ploy to shame her, destroy her confidence and get rid of her.
They conspire a gang rape on her!
Director’s Note : As I read this story, I was excited to film it. I
found the most challenging job as a director was to show two
different aspects of a lady officer. In first half she tries to
expose the high level corruption racket and in second half she
fights against her rapists. To show these two sides of a tough
and courageous woman was a big challenge.
The scripting of this film was very complicated and difficult.
But with a wonderful team we could make this film.

Synopsis : Painting Life depicts the experience of a film crew which
gets stranded in a remote Himalayan village. They find themselves
cut off from the outside world after torrential downpours and
landslides. They are trapped with no basic amenities or means of
communication and are totally at the mercy of the forces of nature.
They are forced to interface closely with nature and the local folk and
experience life at a much gentler pace. They also get exposed to the
challenges faced by the local people. For the director, who has been
highly successful commercially, cinema is mainly an entertainment
business with no connect to the real world or social issues. He saw the
valley as merely a picturesque locale for his shoot. Through a series of
intense and unforgettable experiences, he begins to see the reality
beyond.
