THIS HANDBOOK IS BASED ON FORM 3
LITERATURE, THE LITERARY GENRE IS
A POEM AND THE POEM TITLE IS THE
DAY THE BULLDOZER CAME BY DAVID

ORME, AND THE ACTIVITIES ARE
MOSTLY BASED ON THIS POEM.





THIS POEM TELLS ABOUT HUMAN
DEVELOPMENT DESTROYING FORESTS
AND HABITATS. THIS HANDBOOK
CONTAINS 10 SEPARATE ACTIVITIES
THAT INCLUDE FOR FACE TO FACE
PHYSICAL TEACHING AND FOR
ONLINE CLASSROOM TEACHING.

MODE :



PHYSICAL

Activity 1

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Teacher will be divided the students into pairs and need to listen to the audio

material via youtube.



2. Students will be given a proper worksheet and students need to fill in the blanks
with 8 out of 10 correct answers from listening to the audio material.



3. Teacher will distribute the poem “the day the bulldozers came” to the students.
To check the right answer submitted by the students.



4. Students need to identify at least 6 about the flora and fauna. Students are
allowed to use google and a dictionary.



5. Students need to create a mind map about the benefit of destroying nature.

Activity 2

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Students will be paired up by the teacher and need to read the poem

together.



2. Students are asked to analyze the poem’s development and they will be
given a piece of mahjong paper to jot down their findings. They are given 25

minutes to do the task.



3. Teacher divides them into two groups. Group 1 will stand in the designated
station and stick their mahjong paper on the wall. While group 2 will do a tour

of all stations and listen to their friend’s explanation.



4. Teacher gives feedback on students' work.

Activity 3

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Students are given the poem and they are required to read it.
2. Teacher will ask the students to do an analysis on the choice of words used by

the author (e.g. Rooks, Bulldozer, Stirred).
3. Students are given 20 minutes to do their analysis
4. Teacher asked students to present their findings to the rest of the class.

5. Teacher gives feedback on students' work.

Activity 4

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Students will be divided into groups of 4-5 members.
2. The teacher will distribute the mahjong paper and a marker pen

to each group.
3. Sitting in a group, the students needed to discuss and be
encouraged to get information through communicating with others,
reading or sourcing information in order to complete the tasks.
4. Next, by using their own understanding, students are required to
write down the moral values that are contained in the poems.
5. After finishing the tasks, the teacher will randomly call the group's

members to present their outcomes in class.
6. The students will be evaluated by their comprehension ,
vocabularies and uses of correct verbs and phrasal verbs.

Activity 5

INSTRUCTIONS:



1. Students will be instructed to read and analyze the context of the
poem, facilitated by the teacher.

2. Teacher will divide the students into pairs.
3. Teacher will assign the students to extract and explain four
themes based on the selected poem in pairs. The students have to
include personal point of view or relate their answers with their

personal experiences.
4. Students need to submit their work to the teacher for marking.

MODE :



ONLINE

Activity 6

INSTRUCTION:



1. Students will be divided into group work and needs to listen to the audio
material.



2. Task will be assigned to students via padlet link and each group need to
submit their answer in the same padlet link.



3. Teacher distributes the poem by David Orme towards the students as a
reference.



4. Students need to list at least 5 each for the importance of human
development and the importance of flora and fauna for humans.



5. Each group need to give 1 from their own point of view about the values of
flora and fauna towards the human.

Activity 7

INSTRUCTION:
1. Students will be divided into groups of six and the teacher will share screen

the audio version of the poem.



2. Students are required to listen to the audio material given.



3. Each group will be given a blank Canva link. They are required to create a
poster about the Poem.



4. The poster must include the themes of the poem, tones, moral values, and
settings.



5. Students are given 15 minutes to complete the poster and the teacher will
call upon them for presentation.



6. Teacher gives feedback on the work.

Activity 8

INSTRUCTIONS:



1. Students will be instructed to read and analyze the context of the
poem, facilitated by the teacher.

2. Students will be divided into groups of five members.
3. Students will be assigned to determine the meaning of each stanza

and convert them into a power point.
4. Students will also be assigned to create a presentation video based
on their findings then they need to publish it in YouTube which the links

need to be shared in Google Classroom.
5. Their works will be projected in the online class for discussion.

Activity 9

INSTRUCTION:



1. Students will be divided into groups of 4-5 members.
2. The Teacher will assign students the task via google classroom .
3. The students are required to create a “Stop Deforestation Poster”

using a canva application.
4. The poster must relate to the main themes poems of “The Day

The Bulldozers Came”.
5. Hence, the poster should include the values encompass aspects

of spirituality, humanity and citizenship
6. Every group member then will be assigned to conduct a

presentation.
7. The Teacher will evaluate the students by their creativity, uses

varieties and appropriate words and teamwork.

Activity 10

Instruction:
1. Teacher will be dividing the students into pair work and need to read a piece of

information.



2. Students will be given a jamboard link and each pair need to contribute an
alternative idea to preserve nature through a sticky note from reading material.



3. Teacher will distribute the poem “the day the bulldozers came” to the students.



4. In pair students need to create a short paragraph about the benefit that nature

gives to the human.



Students need to submit the short paragraph at least with 2 adjective sentences.
