From a single truck in the 1930s to industry leadership today, JLP has continually set the standard for safety, reliability and operational discipline amongst its peers for over 75 years. John L. Pierce got its start in the late 1930s when the founder bought the company’s first truck, setting the stage for decades of growth. During the second World War, JLP played a crucial role in supporting civil projects in Townsville, including work on the Townsville Airfield and the Townsville to Darwin Road link. The post-war building boom brought new opportunities and JLP expanded to meet the surging demand for building materials. By the 1950s, the company had begun transporting fuel for Atlantic Oil and completed its first interstate trips. The 1970s then saw further growth as JLP diversified its operations to include chemicals, bitumen, agricultural products and fast-moving consumer goods. In 2017, JLP made the decision to specialise in tanker operations, establishing itself as a leader in bulk liquid transport with an unwavering commitment to safety and compliance. Today, JLP is still family-owned and continues to push boundaries in its field with a blend of tradition and innovation. JLPYellowOur Colours In the early 1950s, Lyla Pierce, wife of founder John L Pierce, sought to improve driver safety by creating a truck livery that was highly visible to other motorists at dawn and dusk. Working in collaboration with the Dulux family, our custom JLP yellow was born to satisfy this requirement. This innovative step, taken decades beforehigh-visibility standards became common, remains a proud symbol of our commitment to safety and our enduring heritage. C A P A B I L I T Y S T A T E M E N T JOHN L PIERCE TRANSPORT | 1 1The Challenge7-Eleven needed more from their transportsupplier – they needed a reliable partner who could not only deliver the fuel requested but manage their inventory to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply across its network of service stations. Managing inventory manually for 7-Eleven was labour-intensive, prone to errors and inefficient. They required a seamless solution to monitor fuel levels and coordinate timely deliveries to ensure no site would run out of fuel, but also keep the logistics costs down by not over servicing or keeping stock levels too high. Our SolutionJLP implemented a bespoke inventory management system tailored to the unique needs of liquid logistics. Leveraging the TMS developed with Slipstream, JLP tailored this system to monitor 7-Eleven inventory levels, sales trends and seasonal demand across several hundred sites. This allowed JLP to forecast fuel requirements and schedule deliveries proactively in a measured and consistent way, avoiding the peaks and throughs of manual reactive scheduling. The service was entirely hands-off for 7-Eleven, providing peace of mind while maintaining flexibility for input when needed. The Result7-Eleven benefited from administrative ease, uninterrupted fuel availability, record low stock out performance and financial benefits through reduced inventory on hand, providing a capital efficiency benefit but also ensuring delivery costs were contained. This also provided operational flexibility for JLP to match customer demand with its fleet/driver availability in a more constructive way. This change has strengthened 7-Eleven’s confidence in JLP as a dependable and innovative logistics provider.Case Study Client: Project: Implementation of carrier managed inventory
