ELA Hockey

ELA Hockey

Compare and Contrast

Ice hockey to field hockey

There are many differences and similarities that go along with field hockey and ice
hockey. One of the d ifferences is that when you are playing ice hockey you use hockey
skates. When you play field hockey you play on your feet. Another difference between
ice hockey and field hockey is the positions. The positions in hockey are center, left
wing, right wing, and defensemen. But the positions in field hockey are left forward, right
forward, mid, left mid, right mid, defense, and goalie. One similarity between ice hockey
and field hockey is that the second half of both words are the same. Lastly, a similarity
is that they both use sticks.

Cause and Effect

In hockey when you were to do something that would affect your team in any way you most
likely get into the penalty box. S ometimes that doesn’t happen though. As a result, if you were
to trip someone you would get a penalty and go into the box. But, if you were to ice the puck it
would just end up as a faceoff in your zone. Those are the reasons how cause and effect works.
As you can see there are many causes and effects to go along with ice hockey.

Problem and Solution

If you were about to play a game of hockey and your skates aren’t sharpened you wouldn't be
able to have good edges and you would skate slower. Well also if you were to get a penalty the
solution is that you sit in the penalty box. If you weren’t to wear the right gear you might get hurt
in a spot with no padding. W hen you pull the goalie the problem is that there is no one in the net
but, the solution is that there are more skaters. Those are the problem and solution ideas for
hockey. A s you can see there are many problems and solutions that go along with ice hockey.

Descriptive

When you play hockey you have to be very descriptive in whatever you do. F or example, when
you stop you have to be descriptive by having your inside foot before your outside. Then you
have to tilt your skates and stop. A lso, when you skate you have to be precise by digging your
skates into and kicking your skates up to build speed. In addition, when you shoot you have to
follow specific “rules” so you can shoot hard and accurate. The rules that you have to follow
include flexing your stick and lean on it to make it go far and hard. That is how you shoot, skate,
and stop

Sequence

When you play hockey you have to do things in order. First, you have to get dressed to go out
on the ice. Next, you have to warm up on the ice to warm up your legs to get ready for the
game. After that, you have to play the game and see if you win. L astly, you have to shake hands
for good sportsmanship. That is what you have to do before the game and after the game to be
a good sport.

Autobiography

Hi, my name is Mason Smith, I am the one who wrote this book. This book is made about
hockey and what the text structures do in hockey. I wrote this book to share what it is like to do
things in order, how you do it in order, etc. I was excited to write this because I play hockey
myself, I also know that how I do what is in the paragraphs. When I play hockey I do it the exact
same way I wrote in the paragraph. That is what I am about and that is how I do things in
hockey.
