A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

DEAR CHAMBER MEMBERS AND MAHOPAC-CARMEL RESIDENTS:

The Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce is happy to present our 2021 Annual Directory.
We hope you will use it as a resource guide for the small businesses that help support our community as
well as a tool to learn and discover more about our town and the community we live work and play in.
The year 2020 was a challenging year for our local businesses and our community. Thankfully, our
community pulled together and the best of our attributes came through to do what we all could to
support and help each other.
We hope that this new 2021 directory will signal the start of a new beginning and a more normal
cadence of activity for our local businesses, our community, and The Greater Mahopac Carmel
Chamber of Commerce.
On behalf of The Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce and its members, I thank you for your
ongoing support.

Regards,
Michael Celestino
Executive Director, Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce

stimulated by the explosion of the summer population. People
discovered that they could summer in Putnam County and
still commute to New York City to work. A new Putnam

During the last half century, Putnam ceased to be a rural
area and became part of the New York City outer suburbs.
Returning veterans and many workers in New York City and
lower Westchester County found one could live year-round
in Putnam and commute to work on excellent roads and
rail connections. While not as convenient as Westchester,
Putnam o ered less expensive housing, good schools, and a

sprang up throughout the county. e rapid conversion of
summer houses to year-round use has provided a ordable

BIKING & HIKING ALONG THE PUTNAM TRAILWAY

BY SAINI SMITH-CLARKE PUTNAM TRAILWAY PUTNAM TRAILWAY

Living in Danbury, years before I even knew there was a town Baldwin Place to Carmel Hamlet Carmel Hamlet to Brewster Village
named Mahopac, I heard there was a bike trail; an old railway
that was paved over and ran from Brewster all the way to Yonkers, West Branch Reservoir6 PUTNAM TRAILWAY To Brewster Village 6 West Branch
over 50 miles long. My friends and I went out to nd it. While we Reservoir
didn’t nd a paved trail in Brewster, we found a way to hop on in Carmel To Baldwin Place Belden Rd
Carmel. We parked our cars at Route 6 and Willow Road until we Hamlet
came to a little town that happened to have a parade going on, not PUTNAM TRAILWAY

We watched the parade, then walked our bikes down a bit. e Gleneida

then rested in a small park. What an amazing way to spend the 36
afternoon. We were happy we found this little hidden gem.

Fast forward several years later; I opened an Allstate Agency
