LACROSSE To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can
appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using
FROM PAGE 20 the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

To excel in both areas took a lot Sophia Altimari Sophia Spallone
of hard work but was worth it for
Spallone, who also was a member of
Yorktown’s league championship girls
soccer squad the previous fall.

“It did take a lot of late nights but
because education is so important
to me, I always would get my work
done,” Spallone said. “Playing many
sports from such a young age taught
me the time management skills need-
ed to succeed in school and sports.”

McAulay has coached both Alti-
mari and Spallone since the begin-
ning of their high-school careers,
and thus discovered quickly that they
would be successful.

“From early on, the coaching sta
knew both of them had the grit,
drive, and determination to have a
successful lacrosse career,” McAulay
said. “Over the years, Sophia Alti-
mari proved she was one of the best
goalies in Section 1, which takes a lot
of focus and discipline to achieve. It
was no surprise that Sophia Spallone
achieved Academic All-American.
Her dedication to her academic stud-
ies also transitioned to her focus and
drive on the eld. I am very proud of
both of them and look forward to see-
ing their future achievements as they
pursue their academic and lacrosse ca-
reers at the next level.”
