ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT Senior a scoring threat
on attack for Tuskers
Brandon LaSpina

Somers senior Brandon LaSpina is a team captain and attackman on
the boys lacrosse team. He was also a member of the Somers/North Salem
hockey team. He is committed to the University of Delaware for hockey.

BY ROB DIANTONIO
CONTRIBUTING WRITER

How old were you when you started playing lacrosse and how
did you get started?

I started playing lacrosse in fth grade. A bunch of my friends
were playing and I was told it is similar to hockey so I was like, ‘why
not?’

How high are the team’s expectations/goals this season?
Something Somers is known for is their legacy of lacrosse. Our
goal is to live up to our expectation of not just being a team, but

being a program. We hope to make a good run and end the
year in a pile.

What are your strengths as a lacrosse player?
From hockey, I have a good sense of where people
are on the eld. I have good vision and can use both
my right and left. Also, I’ll always get the team
pumped by laying a body early.

As a senior on the team, how much do you value
being a leader?

Being a senior is a huge spot. Not just for the
captains, but everyone. Having many underclassmen
forces us to step up and be mentors on and o the

eld. I enjoy being able to give the knowledge I
learned from the seniors before me.

What is your favorite team activity, pregame or
postgame ritual that you shared with your team-
mates?
A pregame ritual we have is to just stay loose and do wall ball in
the locker room. Once we sit down with coach, it’s business from
there.

Who has been your biggest role model over the years and what
have you learned from them?

My parents have de nitely been my biggest role models through-
out my life. I can’t even cover everything I have learned because we
will be going for a while. However, one thing that sticks is that if
you give up, you will close so many doors that you will never be able
to explore. Also, I learned that in life, nothing will ever be handed to
you. You have to work your hardest to be the best.
