Overview and 1.Programme Aims This is the Advanced certificate in Aroma Therapy conducted by NDH lifestyle Campus The qualification provides the knowledge of history of aroma therapy, essential oils, blending techniques and recipes, skills and techniques for incorporating essential oils into wellness, beautification and therapeutic treatments, in depth understanding of A to Z essential oils and their properties. The curriculum is structured around nine modules. The Advanced Certificate in Aroma therapy is specially designed to equip students with effective theoretical and practical skills that are necessary for becoming efficient aroma therapist. The students will be taught the knowledge that will enhance their practical skills and their ability to carry out duties more effectively and efficiently in the challenging spa, beautification, wellness and therapeutic world of today. Objectives To provide the students with an opportunity of acquiring theoretical knowledge in Aroma Therapy. To provide the students with an effective practical knowledge, ideas and techniques in Aroma Therapy. To improve the skills in the students in diagnosing and deciding the best treatment modalities for the betterment of the client’s wellness and beauty related issues from a multi-disciplinary base. In addition to the generic outcomes of this advanced certificate, modules attempt to develop the following subject specific skills. · Blending techniques of essential oil skills · Preparing essential oil blends skills · Skills to utilize the knowledge of aroma therapy in wellness, beautification and therapeutic treatments. · Managing skills of wellness and beautification Centre The objectives of the Advanced Certificate in Aroma Therapy are:


Programme 2. Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this programme, participants will be able to: Knowledge: 1. Explain relevant literature and theory in the field of aroma therapy 2. Define key concepts and models in the area of aroma therapy 3. Demonstrate theoretical knowledge in the area of aroma therapy Subject Specific Intellectual Skills 1. Create blends and recipes using the main theoretical perspectives of Aroma therapy 2. Increase capability in identifying major problem areas within the wellness and beautification 3. Demonstrate an independence of thought in developing solutions, treatment modalities to a range of wellness, beautification and therapeutic problems. Subject Specific Practical Skills 1. Investigate and report on professional practice in area of aroma therapy related to wellness and beatification 2. Design and apply an appropriate solutions with the knowledge of essential oils for issues in wellness and beatification 3. Apply appropriate knowledge and techniques in a named area of practice Transferable Skills and attitudes 1. Utilize the knowledge of aroma therapy effectively, both in theory and in practical’s 2. And Credits This programme has been designed with the view that participants should possess an adequate basic knowledge on all functional areas of aroma therapy along with many integrative courses. The teaching will be mainly based on both theoretical and practical aspects together with the case-study approach in addition to more traditional methods. Advanced certificate in Aroma Therapy is a 03 months programme with total credit weighting amounting to 20. A credit is defined as the workload of 25 hours of lectures, tutorials, practical work or assignments. Admission 5. Criteria Teaching and 6. Learning Methods For admission to the course, participants must achieve one of the following combinations. · Candidates those who have sat for their Advanced level (GCE A/L) with minimum three simple pass · Candidates those who have sat for their Advanced level but not earned three simple passes, have at least 2 years’ experience in relevant field. The programme contents are delivered through lectures, classroom discussions, presentations, practical sessions, and group projects. The material for all modules taught during lessons. In most cases supporting materials, including notes, slides and sometimes videos, are made available to participants. Lecturers advise participants to do recommended reading which supplement the lecture material.


Evaluation 7. Methods 8. Assessment Methods of Evaluation The method of evaluation is based on written examinations, assignments, and practical examinations. The evaluation for each module is given in the module evaluation criteria section. Evaluation Test The participants are evaluated based on examination at the end of the course both theoretically and practically. The participant’s performance shall be evaluated by means of a written test, being of duration of three hours. Each written test shall be based on topics covered during the lecture sessions. Assignments Assignment(s) will be given for certain modules. It may be contained with both practical and theory aspects Grading Criteria A candidate’s performance in each module will be graded according to the following grading scheme. Awarding 9. Criteria Participant who has received the aggregate average 40 or above is considered as pass and will be awarded a certificate, if the marks is above 60 will be awarded a merit certificate and if the mark is above 70 for each module will be awarded a distinction. Academic Integrity All exams and assessments (except where team effort is required and as such specified) are to be individual work with no discussion or collaboration with others permitted. In-class assignments may be either individual or group work as directed by the lecturer. Students are expected to adhere to the code of conduct as outlined in the NDH lifestyle campus. Any incidents of academic misconduct such as cheating, plagiarism, copying others work, or other inappropriate assistance on examinations will be treated with zero tolerance and will result in a grade of "F" for the course. Breaches of academic integrity may also result in other action being taken by the Institute.
