Community Meeting

This meeting consists of a local organization, the Forsyth County Board of Education. It
is located in the Forsyth County Board of Education Work Session room on Valentine’s Day,
February 14th, 2017. They are talking about the construction in Forsyth County Schools and the
building of the new school, Denmark. Members of the Junior Achievement Academy talk about
Discovery Center for sixth and eighth graders. They are also taking a small group of West
Forsyth High school students who are struggling with the curriculum and did not receive this
opportunity in their eighth grade year. They set deadlines for when this should be completed as
well as talk about when the school renovations should be completed. In Discovery Center, they
will supply food as well as the curriculum five days a week. Dual Language Immersion is also
brought up, and a concise survey is given to the parents in the community. In this program, there
are very few dropouts and high attendance as it is very rigorous and requires a long term
commitment. After the survey, the data will be compiled, and a result should be found in March.
The committee plans to set goals and check in on them quarterly. Another meeting will be in
March, 2018.
