After a 15 minute boat ride from Pak Ngah’s Jetty at Sungai
Pendas, you will get off the boat into shin-deep water. The
seagrass meadow will be revealed at the lowest tide. We cannot
guarantee that you will see seahorses, sea hares, dugong
feeding trails and squid as these animals are wild and free, but
our guides will do their best to help you discover the countless

critters hidden in this very special habitat.

About 20 minutes away from Pak Ngah’s Jetty at
Sungai Pendas, you will step off the boat into the
shallow clear waters of Merambong Island. Our
guides will take you through ankle to shin deep
water to the rocky shore and point out countless
interesting animals and plants along the way.
The island also has some coastal mangroves to
explore. Nothing is guaranteed, but sharp eyes
and our able guides may find you octopi,
nudibranchs, anemones and a mystical lizard…

The ride begins at the Kelab Alami Nature & Heritage Center
and winds its way along quiet village roads – before heading
off-road onto the sand bunds behind coastal mangroves. You
will enjoy the view of rivers rarely seen by outsiders, beautiful
traditional village houses and get a peek into the every day
lives of the local community. Along the way, you will be able
to contribute to our habitat documentation by taking note of

bird and animal species, and perhaps stop for a spot of
traditional fishing along the river. The tour ends with a simple
meal at a local warung, and perhaps a chat with the residents

at the next table.

This leisurely cruise in a traditional boat will take
you along the coast from Pak Ngah’s Jetty,

under the Second Link bridge to Singapore and
along the Tebrau Straits that separates Malaysia

and Singapore. Along the way you will learn
about village history, our fishing heritage, and
how development has changed the shoreline yet
local fauna and flora remain. You will also get to

try your hand at some traditional fishing
techniques and perhaps set a crab trap or two.
