NEWSLETTER The Lusitania Times 27 October 2023 www.lusitaniaprimary.co.zw
FROM THE DESK OF THE CEO/PRINCIPAL The recent rains have refreshed our fields and our souls. The hazy dust has mostly been eliminated and the trees are blooming with spring colour. Life is really good if you look around at the many blessings we have bestowed upon us. Your children are another blessing and we are so uplifted to see them thriving and engaging with their studies and other activities every day. It has been a busy period with Grade 7 and Cambridge examinations plus internal assessments underway at present. The school is confident that results will be of a high standard because our staff are dedicated and committed to excellence. Remember that any test or examination is also an opportunity to learn from mistakes or from sections where understanding may not be where it should be. The process of building competence is ongoing. Mid-term is already behind us and the final month is almost upon us. Thank you for your wonderful support of the movie night and we hope that you enjoyed that family occasion. The invitational gala hosted by Lusitania was a great success, putting the school into the public spotlight, something that is always positive for us. Your cheering and encouragement really created a vibrant atmosphere. Our swimmers did very well overall so please remember to keep encouraging your child. Locking ahead there are a number of key events that allow you, as a parent, to interact at the school. These include the ECD Concert, Inter-House swimming, Infants and Junior Prize giving and a planned Carols night. Every child is a winner even if he or she does not receive a specific prize or award. Just being engaged and giving of his or her best is what matters. Lusitania looks forward to seeing many of you over the coming weeks as we join to celebrate all that we do here with you and your children. Melhores cumprimentos Bill Annandale CEO/Principal Warmest greetings, Parents and Guardians
HEAD OF ACADEMICS DESK Dear Parents / Guardians, I find it almost incredulous to realize that we are merely a month away from the conclusion of this academic year. The remaining four weeks are actionpacked, with many events on our calendar. Please refer to the calendar of events to ensure you do not miss out on any upcoming school functions. Your presence at these events—academic, sports, or cultural—provides immense support to our school and, most importantly, your children. I am pleased to extend my heartfelt thanks to all parents who graced our events in the past month. Your attendance and support, particularly for the movie night fundraising event, were instrumental in its success. Similarly, your backing for last week’s Invitational Swimming Gala truly made the day memorable. We were also honoured to have Honourable Emily Jesaya, the Deputy Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Director of Sports in the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Eugenia Chidhakwa , along with their team and gracing the occasion. I want to express my gratitude to all parents who have generously contributed to our events, kits and activities either financially or through in-kind donations. I am immensely pleased to congratulate our Grade 7 students who have successfully completed their ZIMSEC and CHISZ examinations. All the best to the Microsoft IC3 spark (Microsoft Examination) candidates writing on 31 October 2023. Congratulations to our Grade 6 students for successfully completing their Cambridge Checkpoint examinations. I wish all our students the best of luck with their internal end-of-year examinations, which will conclude on the 3rd of November. A special mention to some of our Grade 6 students writing the international Portuguese exam on the 25th of November. We wish you all the best. Nós desejamosvos o melhor! Lastly, I extend my best wishes to our Choice Children’s Choir students, who will compete in the World Choir Games in Lisbon, Portugal, from the 7th to the 15th of November. May you continue to raise our school’s flag high—a safe journey to the teachers and students who will be travelling for this prestigious event. Regarding fees, I kindly request that those still pending payments respect the agreed-upon plans. Our term ends on the 30th of November at 11:00 am. May you kindly please pick them up early.
