The Lusitania Times 29 Sept 2023

NEWSLETTER The Lusitania Times 29 September 2023 www.lusitaniaprimary.co.zw

FROM THE DESK OF THE CEO/PRINCIPAL As I write I can hear the joyful sounds of a class of children singing and rehearsing favourite Christmas Carols. What an incredibly uplifting moment to pick up on as it reminds me of how beautiful the music and words are when children perform them. They don’t hold back and the love of the whole piece of music is very much there for us to hear. If you were to listen to the singing in Assembly you would also be humbled and uplifted. This audible sense of joy is the spirit we aim to instil in our school: a love of learning and a love of being engaged in activities outside of the classroom. Once again, this is a busy and crucial term as our Grade 7s complete their ZIMSEC finals and begin the transition to the next phase of their lives at high school. Our Grade 7s have all been accepted at quality high schools and have been well prepared by the Lusitania educational model. One of the top high schools wrote to me recently asking for more engagement as it has a good number of alumni from Lusitania whom they rate very, very highly as they have gone on to become high achievers in every sense. Having been in the high school system for many years, I can say without hesitation that our pupils are very well prepared for the next step. Where there are any small gaps, these are being addressed and improved upon. This is one of the huge rewards of the teaching profession, seeing young people develop and grow under your guidance so that they become positive and engaged contributors to the world around them. Lusitania, in partnership with you, is doing this with excellence. Thank you for your continued support and engagement. Bill Annandale CEO/Principal Warmest greetings, Parents and Guardians

HEAD OF ACADEMICS DESK Dear Parents / Guardians, We warmly welcome all new parents and students joining our school community this term. We are thrilled to have you on board and look forward to getting to know you and supporting your child’s educational journey. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or require assistance. We have changed the frequency of posting out newsletters. Our newsletter is now being sent out monthly. Our children’s learning has progressed well, and we are proud of their achievements thus far. With only two weeks away from half term, our dedicated teachers are working tirelessly to ensure our children are well-prepared for their upcoming end-of-year internal examinations. We would also like to congratulate Takunda Murira, Junior Nyandoro, Kekona Chinhara, Kumbirayi Gaza, Ruvimbo Muonde, Nicole Lufeli, Tinomuda gwenaguruwe, Ruvimbo Muonde and Shaniqua Kaguru who took part in the Model United Nations (MUN) and Global Youth Leadership conferences. Grade 7 Public Examinations We extend our best wishes to our Grade 7 students who have commenced their final public examinations this week. This examination holds immense significance as it marks a significant milestone in their academic journey before transitioning to high school. We are confident in their abilities and wish them all the success in their exams. Cambridge Checkpoint Examination for Grade 6 Our Grade 6 students will start writing their Cambridge Checkpoint examination on the 10th. We encourage them to embrace this opportunity and prepare diligently for the challenges as they enter Grade 7. We wish them the best of luck in the upcoming assessments. Sports and Cultural Activities Sports activities in tennis, cricket, and chess for this term have been pleasing. Our students have demonstrated dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship while engaging in these activities. We applaud their efforts and hope they continue excelling in their chosen sports. Cultural activities have also started well, allowing our students to showcase their talents in all cultural activities including the clubs as well.. All their achievements are posted on our Facebook page, Instagram and D6 Communicator. We advise all parents to regularly check the calendar of events for information on afternoon activities and upcoming events. This will keep you informed and allow you to plan accordingly. Punctuality and safety We kindly request that all parents prioritize punctuality when dropping off and picking up their children. Timely arrival and departure ensure that students do not miss valuable lessons and have sufficient time to rest and prepare for the next day. We ask that parents pick up their children from the designated gates for safety reasons. Fee Payments We would also like to express our gratitude to parents who have paid the fees on time. Your timely payments contribute to the smooth functioning of our school and the provision of quality education. For those on a payment plan, we kindly request that you fulfil your financial obligations before the children return for half term. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. Communication Platform In order to improve communication and streamline information sharing, we request that all parents download the D6 Communicator. We are gradually moving away from WhatsApp as our primary communication platform. The D6 Communicator will provide important updates, announcements, and access to relevant school information. We appreciate your cooperation in adopting this new communication tool. Condolences On a sad note, we have received news of the passing of one of our parents, Mr. Nyahwa. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace, and may God provide comfort and strength to his loved ones. Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter. We appreciate your continued support and involvement in our school community. Let us make this term a successful and enriching experience for our students. Together we can create a better world for our children.
