GARIS PANDUAN
MOCK INTERVIEW

PENGENALAN
Temu duga merupakan teknik untuk menilai dan memilih individu berdasarkan keperluan
organisasi. Setiap aspek pada calon diteliti semasa proses temu duga. Melalui latihan temu duga
yang dijalankan, pelajar didedahkan untuk berkomunikasi secara komprehensif, menguji tahap
kematangan pelajar dalam penetapan keputusan, dan keyakinan diri dalam menyampaikan idea.

OBJEKTIF
Di akhir program ini nanti, pelajar akan:

a) Mempelajari teknik gaya komunikasi yang sesuai semasa temu duga.
b) Memahami prosedur temu duga.
c) Mengetahui etika temu duga.
d) Memahami suasana temu duga.

4 Modul Mock Interview

PELAKSANAAN MOCK INTERVIEW

Sesi Mock Interview (MI) dijalankan sebanyak Empat kali bermula Tingkatan Empat (Dua
kali) hingga Tingkatan Lima (Dua kali). Berikut merupakan penerangan pelaksanaan ;

Tingkatan 4

1. Mock Interview 1 (MI 1)

- Dikendalikan dalam homeroom (penasihat homeroom sebagai Panel Temuduga).
- Soalan yang dikemukakan bersifat mudah dan ringkas bertujuan menggalakkan

pelajar berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggeris serta membina keyakinan diri pe-
lajar-pelajar.

Contoh Soalan :

· Tell me about yourself / Please describe yourself.
· What are the goals in your life?

2. Mock Interview 2 (MI 2)

- Dikendalikan dalam homeroom (Barisan Pemimpin Pelajar Tingkatan Lima mer-
upakan Panel Temuduga)

- Panel digalakkan menggunakan soalan yang ringkas dan mudah bertujuan meng-
galakkan pelajar yakin berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggeris.

- Panel menggunakan soalan yang lebih khusus kepada kerjaya untuk melihat
tahap penguasaan pelajar dalam berkomunikasi dan pengetahuan am pelajar.

Contoh soalan :
· Tell me about yourself / Please describe yourself.
· What are the goals in your life?
· What would you do to become successful in your career?

Tingkatan 5

3. Mock Interview 3 (MI 3)

- Dikendalikan dalam homeroom (penasihat homeroom sebagai Panel Temu duga).
- Panel digalakkan menggunakan soalan yang berorientasikan personaliti dan

minat pelajar yang bertujuan untuk melihat hala tuju pelajar.
- Panel menggunakan soalan yang lebih khusus kepada kerjaya untuk melihat

tahap penguasaan pelajar dalam berkomunikasi dan pengetahuan am pelajar.

Contoh soalan :
· Tell me about yourself / Please describe yourself.
· What are the goals in your life?
· What would you do to become successful in your career?
· What/ who has influenced your choice of this course ?

4. Mock Interview 4 (MI 4)

- Panel merupakan ANSARA/MUAFAKAT (bukan Konsultan).
- Panel menggunakan soalan yang berorientasikan personaliti dan minat pelajar

yang bertujuan melihat hala tuju pelajar.
- Panel menggunakan soalan yang lebih khusus kepada kerjaya untuk melihat

tahap penguasaan pelajar dalam berkomunikasi dan pengetahuan am pelajar.
- Soalan yang dikemukakan adalah soalan aras tinggi dan mampu menguji tahap

pemikiran serta kematangan pelajar.

Contoh soalan :
· Tell me about yourself / Please describe yourself.
· What are the goals in your life?
· What would you do to become successful in your career?
· What/ who has influenced your choice of this course ?
· Where do you see yourself in 20 years time?

6 Modul Mock Interview

PENILAIAN
Penilaian terhadap pelajar adalah berdasarkan skala berikut :

5 Far exceeds standard – outstanding, exceptionally eloquent, exceedingly
strong skills.

4 Above standard – above average, strong competencies, highly skilled.
3 Meet standard – average, articulate, fulfil required competencies.
2 Below standard – marginal, acceptable presentation, not competitive
1 Far below standard – unimpressive, unclear, careless.

INTERVIEWER GUIDELINES
INTRODUCTION
1. Mock interview is conducted for the Form 5 students with the aims to :

- expose the students to real-life interview
- gauge their level of knowledge about their choices of courses in universities or career
- ensure students are clear about their goals when choosing a career
2. From the mock interview, students would :
- have gained the experience attending an interview. This is to prepare them for future

scholarship interviews based on the SPM trial and SPM examination results
- receive feedback on their strengths and weaknesses, thus enabling them to improve

themselves based on the comments by the panel of interviewers
PROCEDURE

1. The interview is conducted in English to keep up with the current situation as
majority of the students would apply to further their studies overseas.

2. There are 2 parts to the interview – individual interview and group interview. For the
first part, students will be interviewed individually. For the second part, students will
discuss and present their discussion based on a topic given by the interviewers (
See Sample Questions).

3. Time allocated for each session is 60 minutes - 50 minutes for the interview session
and 10 minutes for the feedback session.

4. Both individual and group interviews will be conducted by a panel of 2 interviewers.
5. Students will enter the interview room in a group of 5.
6. The panel of interviewers are to write the scores for every student (individual and

group interviews) in the Evaluation Form provided.
7. The Head of the panel of interviewers is fully responsible for the conduct of the

interviews and is required to give the Evaluation Forms to the student on duty after
totalling all the scores at the end of the interview sessions.

INTERVIEWER GUIDELINES
Introduction (example)
I would like to welcome you to this interview session. First, I would like to introduce to you
the panel of interviewers. They are ( 1st panel’s name) and myself (your name).
Before we begin, let me inform you about the different parts of our session today.

PART 1
You wil be asked to give your responses individually.

PART 2
This section is going to be in group form where all of you will be given an issue to be dis-
cussed. You will then present your views or opinion about the issue.

PART 3
Feedback Session. For this section, the panel of interviewers will give constructive feed-
back on the candidates’ performance.

BEGINNING OF THE INTERVIEW
1. Establish rapport with the candidate.
2. Be open-minded and show that you are receptive to the candidate’s responses.
3. Begin with topics that the candidate is comfortable with for individual interview (refer
to resume).

DURING INTERVIEW
1. Engage the candidate in conversation. Candidate should be speaking for about 80%
of the interview duration .
2. Evaluation is based on the accuracy and relevancy of the candidate’s response to the
question given and level of communication skill.
3. Avoid putting a candidate down, opposing or arguing with the candidate and making
jokes.
4. Ask meaningful and suitable questions that are in line with the aims of the interview
being held. Open-ended questions are encouraged.
5. Control the situation if the candidate gets carried away.
6. Go through the candidate’s document and give encouraging comments (individual
interview).
7. Be sincere in giving compliments and encouraging words.

END OF THE INTERVIEW

1. Determine the duration of conversation when the interview approaches its end.
2. Ask the candidates whether they have any questions or comments to offer.

COMMENTS FROM PANEL OF INTERVIEWERS
- The panel of interviewers should provide constructive feedback on the
candidate’s perfomance.

SOME DOS TO CONSIDER
- Avoid interruptions and distractions like using the handphone, going to the restroom
or talking among the interviewers during the interview. If you must, you may do so
after the candidates have left the interview room.
- Ask questions that require explanations and not just ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer. Try to keep
the interview flowing like a conversation.
- Pose questions that enable the interviewers to see whether the candidate is suitable
for the chosen course. If it is a general knowledge question, relate it to the career
choice.
- Limit the time for individual candidate. However, it is up to the panel’s discretion.

INDIVIDUAL INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
- Questions related to candidate’s background, family, education, courses, career
choice and institutions of higher learning.
- Questions to determine how motivated candidates are in achieving their goals.
- General knowledge questions or any other questions deemed suitable by the panel
of interviewers.
- Examples:
1. What are your weaknesses and what measures have you taken to improve
yourself?
2. Aside from a university degree, what do you hope to gain from your university
experience?
3. What are your strengths and how can they help you to succeed in your chosen
field?
4. If we were to ask your friends to describe you, what would they say?
5. What makes you stand out from other candidates?
6. What is the most important thing you have learnt in this college/school?

12. What is your favourite subject and what makes you think you can excel in your
chosen degree course?

13. Describe a time when you had a challenge in a team situation and how you
coped with it.

14. Who is your role model? Why?
15. What is your definition of “success?”
16. What has been your proudest achievement so far?
17. We know that you are a talented student; what motivates you to be a good

learner?
18. Are there any questions that you wished we had asked or anything else about

yourself that you would like us to know?

GROUP INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
1. The social media is driving our generation to appear perfect at any cost. Discuss

2. What is the most prevailing problem among Malaysians in terms of attitudes?

3. Food is a fascination in Malaysia. What would be the best way to develop a healthy

eating culture among Malaysians.

4. What would be a major change that you would like to see in our government? Why?

5. Malaysian education system should undergo a paradigm shift in the teaching and
learning process. How far do you agree?

6. What would be the best way to curb the spread of fake news in Malaysia?

7. Would you work in a career field that is not related to your university degree? Why?

8. Teenagers need social skills not social networks. How far do you agree?

9. In a world where news can be reported by anyone with a cellphone, how do you
decide what is true?

10. What students study at school is not related to their lives later as adults and is thus
a waste of time. What is your view?

11. Government-sponsored students do not return to serve the country/fulfill their bond
upon completing their studies. Suggest ways to stop the loss of these talented
professionals.

11. Cases of child abuse in the country have increased this past year. What are the
factors contributing to this increase?

12. Volunteerism is lacking amongst teenagers in the country. Suggest
ways to promote volunteerism among them.

13. What is your role as an individual to nurture peace within our community?
14. How can you contribute as a student in helping the homeless people?
15. How far do you think community service is important?
16. People shouldn’t be judged based on his/ her physical appearance. How far do you

agree?
17. What are the actions that you can take as a child/ student to cope with the rising

living cost in Malaysia?

PERSEDIAAN MENGHADIRI TEMU DUGA
SEBELUM

§ Memakai pakaian yang sesuai, kemas dan bersih.

§ Tidak memakai pakaian yang terlampau berwarna-warni dan mencolok mata, berse-

lipar serta memakai minyak wangi yang berlebihan dan mengenakan solekan yang
keterlaluan.

§ Rambut hendaklah pendek dan tersisir rapi bagi lelaki dan kemas bagi perempuan
yang tidak bertudung. Pada yang bertudung perlu kemas dan tidak terlalu berfesyen.

§ Memakai kasut sarung dan berwarna gelap.

§ Pastikan anda membawa surat panggilan temu duga, kad pengenalan, surat be-
ranak, sijil-sijil asal, dokumen yang berkaitan untuk disemak oleh panel temuduga.
Pastikan ianya tersusun kemas di dalam fail mengikut turutan tahap akademik.

§ Tentukan tarikh, tempat dan masa temu duga akan diadakan. Pastikan anda sampai
10-15 minit lebih awal supaya tidak tergesa-gesa dan elak dari datang lewat.

SEMASA

 

§ Mengawal emosi dengan baik dan tonjolkan keyakinan diri.

§ Berikan salam dan ucapan “selamat pagi/petang” mengikut keadaan waktu berserta
dengan senyuman dan pandang semua Panel Penemuduga (eye contact).

§ Jangan hulurkan tangan anda untuk berjabat tangan selagi Panel Penemuduga tidak
membuat gerakan dahulu.

§ Jangan terus duduk melainkan telah dijemput berbuat demikian. Apabila disuruh
duduk, ucapkan terima kasih dan duduklah dengan sempurna serta tegakkan badan.
Jangan cuba untuk mengalih keadaan kerusi yang disediakan.

§ Serahkan dokumen-dokumen berkaitan apabila diminta. Jangan letakkan barang-ba-
rang lain (letak di tepi kerusi anda), tangan ataupun siku di atas meja Panel Pene-
muduga.

§ Jangan duduk bersilang kaki, goyang-goyangkan kaki atau mengerakkan ke sana ke
sini.

§ Biarkan Panel Penemuduga memulakan perbualan.

§ Apabila bercakap pandang muka Panel Penemuduga (eye contact).

§ Jangan menjawab soalan tergopoh-gapah. Jawablah setiap soalan dengan tenang
dan jelas.

§ Jangan sesekali mengeluarkan fakta yang tidak benar atau mendiamkan diri. Jika

anda tidak tahu jawapan yang disoal, berlaku jujur dengan berterus terang bahawa
anda tidak mengetahui jawapannya.
§ Apabila diminta memperkenalkan diri, mulakan dengan nama penuh anda, latar be-
lakang keluarga dan latar belakang pendidikan, aktiviti anda dan sebagainya.
§ Jangan cuba hendak menjenguk atau membaca surat-surat dan lain-lain kertas yang
terdapat di atas meja panel Penemuduga.
§ Apabila menyebut nama Panel Penemuduga gunakan gelaran seperti Tuan, Tan Sri,
Dato dan sebagainya. Jika tidak yakin gelaran Panel Penemuduga tersebut gunakan
gelaran Tuan atau Puan.
§ Tumpukan perhatian pada setiap soalan yang ditanya dan beri jawapan yang tepat
dan sempurna.
§ Cuba kembangkan jawapan, jangan sekadar menjawab YA atau TIDAK sahaja.
§ Jangan mengunyah sesuatu semasa temuduga berjalan.
§ Jangan sesekali menyampuk semasa Panel Penemuduga sedang bercakap atau
berbincang sesuatu sesama mereka.
§ Minta penjelasan sekiranya anda tidak begitu faham atau jelas mengenai soalan
yang ditanyakan.
§ Gunakan satu bahasa sahaja tanpa mencampur aduk dengan bahasa yang lain. Jika
ditanya dalam bahasa Melayu, maka calon perlu menjawab dalam Bahasa Melayu.
Sekiranya panel menggunakan Bahasa Inggeris, calon perlu bersedia untuk men-
jawab dalam Bahasa Inggeris.
§ Diakhir temuduga, ucapkan terima kasih kepada Panel Penemuduga kerana mem-
beri peluang untuk hadir pada temu duga itu.
§ Jika diberi peluang bertanya soalan, kemukakan soalan yang munasabah sahaja.

PUNCA GAGAL TEMUDUGA
1. Lemah ketika sesi perbincangan kumpulan
2. Bersikap pasif
3. Tidak lancar bertutur
4. Tidak mengetahui program pengajian yang bakal diikuti
