First and foremost, on behalf of the Radiology Service, Ministry of Health Malaysia, I am delighted to welcome all of you to the MRI Safety Conference 2.0 a national-level course. i extend my thanks to all the participants who attended this training course organized by the National Radiology Service in collaboration with the Radiology Department of Putrajaya Hospital and the Radiology Department of the National Cancer Institute (IKN), with the cooperation of the Persatuan Pendidikan Perubatan IKN (PPPIKN). We deeply appreciate and are grateful for all the support and contributions from the parties involved. MRI SAFETYConference 2.0 Foreword The primary objective of this course is to introduce the basic principles of safety in handling Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) modalities. MRI is an imaging modality that utilizes a combination of radiofrequency and magnetic fields to produce cross-sectional images with diagnostic value. As we are aware, MRI plays a crucial role in anatomical imaging, not only in clinical diagnostic but also in research and MRI intervention procedures. Its advantage over other modalities is that it does not use ionizing radiation. Therefore, MRI remains the preferred choice, despite safety concerns that need to be addressed. In this one-and-a-half-day course, the organizing committee has invited distinguished speakers from various institutions to share their knowledge on a wide range of topics related to MRI safety. It is hoped that this course will enhance participants' knowledge of the MRI modality, particularly emphasizing the importance of safety practices when dealing with MRI modalities and awareness of safety standards in MRI areas. This, in turn, indirectly contributes to improving safety not only among patients and healthcare workers but also among the general public. In conclusion, heartfelt congratulations and kudos to Dr. Zahurin and the organizing committee for their dedication and cooperation in conducting this beneficial program. MRI SAFETYConference 2.0 Welcome Messa g e As known, the advantage of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) over other modalities lies in its non-ionizing radiation. Therefore, MRI has become the primary choice and plays a crucial role in the fields of medical diagnostics and evolving research technology. It has revolutionized how we understand, detect, diagnose, and subsequently treat various diseases. MRI has traditionally been considered a safe imaging modality due to the absence of ionizing radiation. However, it is essential to note that MRI has unique safety issues that need careful attention. Therefore, personnel handling MRI require a high level of knowledge about MRI safety regulations and competence to prevent and manage any MRI-related incidents. Other healthcare workers (outside the radiology department) involved in the care of patients requiring MRI also need to be aware of MRI risks. With advancing technology, it is crucial for us to continuously update and equip ourselves with the latest knowledge of MRI safety regulations. Hence, the organization of the MRI Safety Conference 2.0 is timely for us to learn and update our knowledge about MRI safety.
