Hello, my name is Charley Kirby and my goal is to become a lawyer. What is a lawyer, you ask? A 
lawyer is someone that practiceslaw and helps someone in the court of law. There are many di erent 
types of lawyers, for example,there is a corporate lawyer, also know as a businesslawyer, there is a 
personal injury lawyer, and the most popular type in my opinion is a criminal defense lawyer. I feel that 
this is an appropriate career for me because I like to prove my points so people can see things the way I 
do. I think that it would be fun to prepare for years on a case and then end up coming out on top. 

 
The goals for this job require a lot of schooling, and as I look at the bigger picture I need to focus 
on my short term goals. One of my short term goals is to get rst honors every marking period. To get rst 
honors I need to get ahead in my classes, stay ahead, and to ask questionsif I am confusedor need help. 
Next I need to stay focused on school. I have many sports outside of school so I need to learn how to 
balance my time so that school come rst and I still will have time for my sports. My nal short term goal 
is to stay neat and organized.To stay neat and organizedI will need to stay on top of all my school work 
and won’t throw things into my binder. I need to conquer my short term goals before I can look at the 
bigger picture. 
 
After my short term goals are accomplishedand are successfulfor a couple of years, I can then 
work on my mid-termgoals. My mid term goal is to get into the advanced classes. To get into the 
advanced classes I need to turn my homeworkin on time. I also need to make school come rst like to 
need to happen in all of my goals. Finally I need to stay on top of my grades and make sure they don’t 
slip. That is how I will make my sure my midterm goals come to life.  
 
When I do look at the bigger picture I need to look at my long term goals. My long term goal is to 
get into a great law school. To get into a great law school, I need to stay focused on school like I need to 
do in all my goals. Then I need to ace all of my advanced classes so that the colleges can see that I am up 
to a challenge.Finally I need to graduatein the top of my class.  
 
What I took away from this interviewis that you have to love what you do, you have love it and 
enjoy it. If you don’t enjoy don’t get into that eld. She said that many people get into certain elds 

    

because it makes big money. Most people that don’t love what they do are normal average at the topic. 
Another questionI asked was, “What got you into this.” She said it was because one person came into 
her 9th grade civics class, he was an assistant prosecutor in ColumbiaCounty. She went home that day 
and told her parents that she was going to be a lawyer. After nishinghigh school and 13 years of college 
she, is still living up to what she told her parents.
