PREFACE
Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb,
Alhamdulillahirabbil’alamiin… All prayers and thanks unto Allah SWT who has given us
mercies and blessings. This module will not be finished without His Guidance. Shalawat and
salam always be given to our Prophet Muhammad SAW who has guided us from the
darkness to the lightness, from stupidly era into cleverness era namely Islam religion.
This module is compiled based on Permendikbud No. 20 in 2016 about Graduate
Competence Standard (Standar Kompetensi Lulusan) covered three domain of learning those
are affective, cognitive and psychomotor domain which can be learnt in two meetings (1x45
minutes per meeting). This module is expected as a new learning media in learning writing of
procedure text. The writer developed this module by inserting local culture which available in
students’s environment to enrich students’ understanding and skill of writing procedure text.
Further, by learning this module, writer hopes students’ awareness about the important of
preserving their local culture will be developed.
The writer believes this module can be an interactive medium to teach writing an application
letter because it is completed with pictures, new knowledge and some activities such as quiz
and of course writing exercises. This module is only provided for students’ at the twelve
grade of Senior High School.
The last but not least, the writer says thank you very much to everyone who has helped the
writer in compiling this module. The writer realized that there are many mistakes and
lackness in this module. Because of that, critics and suggestions are needed to make this
module better.

DESCRIPTION
Welcome to the English learning module. In this module you will explore knowledge of job
application letter texts. This module includes a description of the material on determining the
text structure of a job application letter, the function of a job application letter, and analyzing
the main information and detailed information of the job application letter text. After
studying this module, it is hoped that you will be able to compile the text of a job application
letter.
THE INSTRUCTION OF USING MODULE
1. This module can be learned for 2 learning hours
2. Read all of the material description in this module to get more understanding about
the material which learned
3. Every learning activities is ended by some exercises and self-assessment, in hope all
of you over the material more than 80% before learning the next material
4. When learning this module, then you find things that cannot be understood, please
communicate with people around you who obey your views have the ability to explain
or you can search for information on various media.
5. At the end of this module, evaluation questions are prepared to determine the
achievement of the complete competence about the Application Letter (job

A. The Definition of Application Letter
An application letter or a cover letter is a letter of introduction that highlights your key
accomplishments and fit for a job opening. An application letter adds focus to your resume.
Resume is a document which includes education, experience, skill, and accomplishment that
is used to apply for jobs. Curriculum Vitae (CV) is an – depth document that can be laid out
over two or more pages and it contains a high level of detail about your achievements, a great
deal more than just a career biography.
B. Social Function of Application Letter
Provide information regarding the applicant's competence to create a positive impression
about the suitability of the applicant's competence with the job being applied for.
C. Parts of Application Letter
No Parts of the Application Letter
1. Address and the date of the letter is written
2. The address of your company that you are writing to. Use complete title and
address, don’t be abbreviated.
3. Greeting.
4. Body of letter, it is divided by 3 paragraph:
a. Opening paragraph, use this paragraph to specify to which job you are
applying for, or, if you are writing to inquire whether a job position is open,
question the availability in opening
b. Middle paragraph, this section should be used to highlight your work
experience which most closely matches the desired job requirements
presented in the job opening advertisement. Do not simply restate what is
contained in your resume, but give strong reasons, why you are suits to the
position.
c. Closing paragraph, use closing paragraph to ensure action on the part of the
reader. One possibility is to ask for an interview appointment time. Make it
easy for the personnel department to contact you by providing your
