CLASSIC

Classic Grade floors show the natural variation of timber
without allowing some of the more characterful features
in more rustic grades. Planks with very few knots will be
mixed with some planks containing larger knots or checks
(cracks across the growth ring) which may be filled. Variation
between tone from heartwood and sapwood can be expected
but is controlled. Filler colour is selected to complement
the natural character of the timber and may vary from batch
to batch.

To create the outstanding finishes we offer, the wood goes through various
processes which affects different types of wood in different ways.

SAPWOOD

SMOKED & WHITE OILED SMOKED NATURAL OILED

Sapwood is the living part of the tree through which water and sap flow. It is always lighter in colour than the heartwood and
certain fuming, smoking and colouring processes emphasise the sapwood since it doesn’t react to such treatments to the same
degree. (The effect of these treatments on planks containing sapwood is shown above.) By definition sapwood contains more
moisture, however this is no cause for concern since all Havwoods’ timber has been carefully dried and its stability is ensured
when supplied in an engineered form.

SMOKING AND FIRING GRADES

SINGLE SMOKED DOUBLE SMOKED FIRED

Smoking and fuming are essentially the same and refer to a process whereby the hardwood is exposed to ammonia gas for
24 (single) or 48 (double) hours. The colouration is surface deep only. Unlike staining, smoking reacts to the chemical
composition of the individual plank, so the ultimate shade will vary. This variation is considered an asset, however if you prefer
a more even tone we suggest you consider choosing stained rather than smoked wood.

Fired products are treated in a vacuum, sometimes for several weeks, and the dark colour runs throughout the lamella providing
a genuine visual alternative to tropical hardwoods.

PUREPLANK®

The mark of An affordable range of 14mm and 9mm thick boards, the diversity in finish of this
responsible foresty superior collection lends it to a breadth of applications. PurePlank’s triple-layered
construction comprises of a solid ash and European oak surface, bonded to two
layers of softwood for stability and all-round performance. The Havwoods ‘Click’
fit system makes installation exceptionally quick, a highly beneficial quality for
large-scale projects. Choose from a variety of widths and finishes, including our UV
Oiled coating, which provides a hardwearing surface that also enhances the wood’s
natural characteristics. The engineered construction of the PurePlank range means
that it can be fitted over underfloor heating. All products are FSC® certified timber
(FSC C009500).

PUREPLANK FOR WALLS
Conditions for fitting PurePlank on walls are the same
as for floorboards, i.e. 45% to 60% humidity and a
temperature of between 18°C and 24°C, and packs
should be acclimatised for around 48 hours. the walls
to be clad should not deviate from true by more than
2mm over 2 metres.
Apply wood or construction glue to the structural
timbers to the height of one board. Lay the first
board, with the tongue removed, to the glued grid
and fix it from above with the clips. Fit the mounting
clip into the protruding groove, then screw it to each
timber with a wood screw. Connect the subsequent
boards together using the locks, knocking them home.
Wooden or aluminium angle bars or an aluminium flat
bar may be used as a decorative and protective finish
on the trimmed edge.
