VIII Edition National Moot Court Competition The Moot Court Committee at The School of Law organized the VIII Edition National Moot Court Competition from 14th to 15th April, 2023 on the theme of ‘Environmental Laws’. Hon’ble Mr. Justice (Retd.) Rajesh Tandon, Uttarakhand High Court, Nainital, was inaugurated as the Chief Guest for the event. The final round of the competition was presided over by a three-judge bench: Mr. Sudhir Mishra, Partner and Founding Manager, Trust Legal; Mr. Jeevan Ballav Panda, Partner, Khaitan & Co.; and Dr. Sunod Jacob, Government Liaison, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UN Refugee Agency. After witnessing a rigorous round of exhibition of legal skills, the team from Christ University, Delhi NCR, emerged as the winner. Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur secured the runner-up position. The winning team received a cash prize of Rs. 15,000/-. The runner-up team received a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, and the winner of the best memorial, best speaker (male) and best speaker (female) received a cash prize of Rs. 5000/- each. Visit to the Parliament of India Fifteen students of the School of Law, NCU, visited the Parliament of India on 6th April 2023. Faculty coordinator, Ms. Kanika Kaushik, accompanied the students. The visit included seeing around the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha and the Central Hall. The magnificence of the structures gave an impetus to the democratic sentiments of the students. Certificate Distribution Ceremony for Peer Tutoring The Department Academic Committee organized the Certificate Distribution ceremony to boost the students’ confidence for their hard work towards tutees. The session was chaired by Prof. Rita Chikkara, HOD, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). It was coordinated by Dr. Shaveta Arora, Chairperson; Ms. Swati Gupta, Member Secretary; and Ms. Monika Lamba, Peer Tutoring Coordinator of the Department Academic Committee, CSE. Students of the CSE Department Shiv Sarthak Sabhlok (19csu288), Animesh (19csu027), and Pushpender Saini (19csu231) received the third position in the online Hackathon conducted by iStart, Department of Information Technology and Communication, Government of Rajasthan from 19th to 20th March, 2023. They received a work order of Rs. 5 lakhs for the submitted project and an opportunity to work with the Government of Rajasthan. Dr. Shilpa Mahajan and Dr. Anuradha Dhull guided the team. Another team comprising Ananya Sharma (21CSU010), Shubham Jain (21CSU157), and Arpita Samal (21CSU243) from the CSE Department received the Best Project in XR Category during Innohacks 2.0, held at KIET Ghaziabad on 23rd and 24th of April, 2023. Dr. Shilpa Mahajan and Dr. Anuradha Dhull guided the team. HDFC Bank sponsored The department of CSE & IT conducted the first round of Preplacement interviews (PPI) for B. Tech (CSE) pre-final year students on 15th April, 2023. The objective of this drive was to facilitate our students to realize their strengths and weaknesses so that they can identify the domain that best suits their profile. Essential parameters to compute PPI scores were: Technical skills such as subject knowledge and non-technical skills such as attitude, soft skills etc. Nine industry experts were invited from various organizations to conduct interviews to evaluate 72 students. Dr. Shilpa Mahajan and Dr. Shraddha coordinated the interviews.. The Centre for Professional Attachment and Alumni Engagement (CPAA) hosted the launch of the Gemini Ambassador Program and Envisage, Gemini Ideathon Competition for CSE and MDE Students on 27th April, 2023. The event focused on pitching the best business ideas from budding engineers based on new and innovative technologies. The Gemini Solutions team consisted of Mr. Vineet Gupta, Ms. Ashna Khurana, Mr. Shiva Tuteja, Ms. Saumya Arora, and Ms. Shanu. The event was coordinated by Dr. Shilpa Mahajan and Ms. Garima Arora. The IEEE RAS chapter of The NorthCap University and NCU’s student chapter of IEI society organized an engaging and informative online expert session on “Linux Essentials” on April 8, 2023. The guest speaker was Er. Joji John, Assistant Professor from the University of Technology and Applied Science in Nizwa, Sultanate of Oman. The handson session provided essential knowledge about Linux and its programming through practical demonstrations and interactive discussions. Dr. Anu Tonk and Dr. Vandana Khanna organized the event. (MDE2023G012) The webinar on “Simulation of Differential Drive Mobile Robot” –organized on April 20, 2023 and conducted by The Robotics Club/ SAE Collegiate Club –was a highly informative and engaging event that provided valuable insights into the field of robotics. An accomplished expert- Dr. Prabin Kumar Jha, Associate Professor and HOD at the Department of Robotics and Automation Engineering, The Neotia University, Kolkata, delivered the talk. (MDE2023G010) An expert lecture on Cloud Robotics was held on April 26, 2023, organized by The Robotics Club/SAE Collegiate Club. The event was well attended, with many student participants from diverse backgrounds (ECE/ CSE/ME). The expert speaker, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Siddhartha, Technical Manager of Robotics, HCL Technologies, delivered an engaging and informative presentation on the topic, providing valuable insights into cloud robotics. (MDE2023G011) The IEEE RAS Chapter of The NorthCap University and Physics Club organized a webinar on “Machine Learning for Intelligent Systems” on April 22, 2023. The guest speaker for the session was Mr. Alok Anand, the founder of TechMedBuddy. Mr. Alok introduced the participants to the concepts of Data Science and AI. Over 100 students from NCU and different colleges/universities in India participated in the event. The expert focused on understanding how to build and train machine learning models. Concepts such as Exploratory Data Analysis, classification/ regression models, clustering etc., were demonstrated using interesting datasets and Python. (MDE2023G013) An awareness drive on Road Safety was organized by NRSC, NEEV, and the NorthCap University SAL team along with co-hosts from Charan Sparsh Foundation on 20th April, 2023 in Seminar Hall, NCU. The event aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of road safety and the measures they can take to prevent accidents. Sh. The Student Class Committee meetings of the School of Management & Liberal Studies and School of Engineering and Technology were held on 5th and 6th April, 2023 at 2:30 pm. On 15th April, 2023, the Department of MDE, The NorthCap University, organized a Parent-Teacher Meeting for Semester II students of B.Tech and BCA. It established communication between parents and teachers for discussing their ward’s progress. (MDE2023O030) Department of Multidisciplinary Engineering organised an interactive “Inventory management: A case study on Escorts Kubota” session on 18th April, 2023 in hybrid mode. The speaker was our esteemed Alumni, Mr. Ujjwal Upadhyay, Supply Chain Manager at Escorts Kubota. Mr. Anmol Bhatia, Assistant Professor, Department of MDE coordinated the event. (MDE2023G009) The Department of MDE organized a Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification Program for 23 final year B. Tech (ME) students from February, 2023 to April, 2023. The event was jointly conducted by NCU and 6Sigma Study, who later certified the students. The course was 30 hours, including lecture study and online video lectures, comprising classroom study and video lectures provided by 6Sigma Study Institute. (MDE2023WO006) A boot camp was arranged online on 24th April, 2023 for B. Tech. CSE 4th semester students to understand the prospects of Minor Certification in “VLSI Design”. The speaker was Mr. Shubham Jain, Alumnus B. Tech. CSE 2013 batch, NCU. He works as Principal Software Engineer, R&D department, Cadence Design Systems. This boot camp was organized by Dr. Vandana Khanna, faculty advisor of the university’s IEI students’ chapter, under Prof. Sharda Vashisth’s guidance. (MDE2023G014) MDE Department, NCU organised an Industrial Visit to EDGETECH AIR SYSTEMS, PVT. LTD., Bahadurgarh on April 28, 2023. The visit was a collaborative activity between The NorthCap University and ISHRAE Gurugram Chapter. ISHRAE Gurugram Chapter partially sponsored the visit. 15 B.Tech. students from the Mechanical Engineering department participated in the visit. The students learned about the advancements in Heating, Air conditioning and Refrigeration systems. The visit helped them gain experiential learning. They explored the manufacturing processes involved in the HVAC industries. They got an overview of tools and techniques used in manufacturing ventilation and cooling units during this industrial visit. Department of CSE, Game Mantra Club organized a Game Technology Meetup on 1st April, 2023, collaborating with XR Game Central, Gurugram and Souminum Space, UK, at The NorthCap University. The meet-up was to understand and learn the scope of the growing Metaverse transformation. Mr. Shery Mishra, Founder of XR Game Central, showcased product development using Metaverse and XR technology. The meetup also included a talk by Guest Speaker Mr. Francesco Vincenti, Business Dev at Somnium Space VR, Co-Founder Sewer Dao on “Metaverse transformation” followed by casual networking. The students displayed their projects and got live feedback from Industry experts. The Department of CSE, Center of Excellence Data Science, organized the “Augmented Reality” workshop on April 28, 2023. Augmented reality is an interactive experience that combines the real world and computer-generated content. The event provided an opportunity to learn from industry expert Mr. Amit, Senior Software Engineer at Tooliqa Inc., with many years of experience in XR Development, Virtual Production, and Game Development. In total, 26 students attended the workshop under the guidance of Ms. Nisha Arya and Dr. Meghna Sharma. AR Development Workshop DOn April 28th, 2023, a group comprising of Dr. Gargi Dutta from the Department of Applied Sciences and fourteen B.Sc (H) Chemistry students visited Reckitt Benckiser R&D, Sector 33, Gurugram. During the visit, they explored the analytical lab, performance lab, and surface care laboratory of Reckitt R&D and gained valuable insights. The Department of CSE, Game Mantra with Gaming AR VR Specialization organized an Industry expert interaction and project presentation with Vaibhav Panchal (Senior Director - Media and Communications, Microsoft, Worcester Park, England, and United Kingdom) on 28th April, 2023. A total of 20 students presented their projects and got constructive feedback. Industrial Visit to Coca-Cola Plant, Baddi Parent-Teacher Meeting As part of their industrial visit program, undergraduate and graduate students from School of Management & Liberal Studies recently visited the Coca Cola plant located in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh on 14th and 15th April 2023. Coca-Cola is a global beverage company known for its iconic soft drink brand, Coca-Cola, as well as other popular beverages like Sprite, Fanta, etc. The purpose of the visit was to gain insights into the production processes, quality control measures, and sustainability initiatives of Coca Cola, and to understand the scale and scope of their operations. After the visit, students halted and rejuvenated at the nearest hill station- Kasauli for a day and returned the next day. Dr. Priyanka Banerjee, Dr. Minakshi Sehrawat, and Ms. Prerna Sharma coordinated the event. On 29th April 2023, Centre for Language Learning, The NorthCap University, organized a Parent-Teacher Meeting for Semester II and IV students of BA (Hons.) (English). It served as an opportunity for dialogue between parents and faculty members of the Centre to discuss their ward’s academic and overall developments. I EEE student branch of The NorthCap University organized its flagship event, Synergy 2.0, on 21st April, 2023, in the university auditorium. Through this event, our future engineers connected with industry leaders and participated in insightful panel discussions, technical workshops, and interactive sessions. The speakers included Mr. Gursaurabh Singh, Inventor, Founder of Dhruv Vidyut, and a famous contestant at Shark Tank India; Ms. Deepa Chaurasia, a Public Speaker, and Software Development Engineer at BIND Systems; Mr. Vikas Mahtta, Youngest ex-marketing manager at BMW, Brand Manager at Tribeca; and Ms. Priya Vajpeyi, LinkedIn Branding Expert and Professional Resume Writer. The IEEE NCU student branch also received a sponsorship of 2400 USD for this event from the IEEE Computer Society and IEEE SPAx. More than 300 students attended the event, and made it a huge success. Synergy 2.0 Guest Lecture on “Trending Employability Skills and Values” The School of Management and Liberal Studies (SOM&LS) of The NorthCap University, Gurugram, Haryana, organized a guest lecture on “Trending Employability Skills and Values” on April 25, 2023, from 3:00 pm onwards. The School of Management & Liberal Studies conducted a Civil Services Awareness Seminar on 12th April 2023 in the Seminar Hall. This seminar was aimed to inform undergraduate and graduate students at the University about the ‘know-how’ of one of the most prestigious exams of India. Herein, the eligibility criteria, exam pattern and syllabus followed by the right approach to start preparation of Civil Services exam was discussed. Nearly 80 students attended the seminar. The speaker was Dr. G. C. Patil, 2015 Batch IRS office. Dr. Minakshi Sehrawat coordinated the event. The students of the School of Management and Liberal Studies visited the National Security Guard (NSG) Camp, Manesar, on Wednesday, April 26 2023. Twenty-two students of MBA IInd semester and eight students from BBA VIth semester participated in the visit, along with the faculty member Ms. Shikha Yadav. The purpose of the visit was to sensitize students about the challenges faced by Commandos, as well as what makes them so determined to live their lives to protect our country’s honor and dignity and to develop the values of discipline in everyday life, sacrifice, courage to face challenges, determination and a sense of duty and importance of proper planning and strategy. School of Management & Liberal Studies organized the Expert Talk on “Changing Role of Parents in the Digital World” on April 29, 2023. The speakers for the event were Dr. Aruna Broota, globally acclaimed psychologist & parenting expert, Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, Program Director, Expressions India and Sr. Consultant, Mental Health, Moolchand Medcity, and Ms. Aditi Misra, Director principal, Delhi Public School, Gurugram. The event was conceptualized and seamlessly conducted by Dr. Sona Vikas, HOD- Commerce & Liberal Studies and her team, including Dr. Preeti Chawla and Dr. Akshat Aditya Rao. Over 100 participants attended the event. The Awakening Club organized an Idea Challenge Competition on the theme’ Water Quality and Conservation’ under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan on April 21, 2023, to promote awareness about the significance of water conservation and ideas to improve water quality and water conservation. Twenty participants from various departments of the university participated in the event and presented their ideas and opinions on the theme. Workshop on Health Awareness The School of Law organized the Health Awareness Workshop on April 10th, 2023, to commemorate the World Health Day, celebrated on April 7th. Dr. Upma Gautam, Associate Professor, University School of Law and Legal Studies (USLLS) Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), New Delhi and Dr. Shweta Sharma, Consultant, Psychology and Counseling, Manipal Hospital, Gurugram were the speakers. Dr. Upma Gautam spoke on ‘Women and Health’, and Dr. Shweta Sharma spoke on the pertinence of Mental Health. Jan Sunvayi The Pro Bono Club of School of Law, The NorthCap University organized a Jun Sunvayi at village Jharsa on 20th April 2023. This event aimed to provide legal aid to the needy seeking legal advice on different issues. Adv. Earth Week Members of the Rotaract Club, The NorthCap University organized Earth Week from 17th - 22nd April 2023 on Earth Day. Events like nurture the nature, treasure from trash, energy conservation were conducted. Prayaas NCU in collaboration with the Yoga Club of the NorthCap University organised “A Self Defence Session” in Incubation Center on April 20,2023. Around 30 students participated in the event in which various safety techniques were demonstrated to the participants. The NorthCap University hosted their Annual Alumni Sports Meet on April 15, 2023. It was meant to cherish the strong Alumni relationship with great zeal and enthusiasm at the campus. Centre of Professional Attachment and Alumni Engagement, NCU was the organizer of this meet which included fun-filled activities and sports events like Cricket, Volleyball and Table-Tennis and other fun-filled activities. • Prof. Prem Vrat attended a networking dinner on the occasion of the 75th birthday celebration of Prof. P B Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Amity University, Haryana, on 04th April 2023 at Central Services Officers Institute (CSOI), KG Marg, New Delhi, attended by a large number of dignitaries. He was felicitated by Prof. P B Sharma with a shawl and a set of books on the occasion. • Prof. Prem Vrat delivered an online distinguished keynote address at Lumiere 4.0, a research seminar organized by Great Lakes Institute of Management Gurugram on “Impact of People Quality on the Quality of Service: Some Research Outcomes” on 06th April, 2023. • Prof. Prem Vrat delivered an invited lecture on “Behaviour Induced Roadblocks for Accelerated Mobility” at a National conference organized by DEI Agra and ATDI, New Delhi, in a hybrid mode organized by Dayalbagh Educational Institute Agra on 08th April, 2023. • Prof. Prem Vrat attended the 55th Meeting of the IIT Council under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Shiksha Mantri, Sh. Dharmendra Pradhan at the administrative block of IIT Bhubaneshwar on 18th April 2023. • Prof. Prem Vrat delivered a lecture under the ‘Distinguished Lecture Series’ of INAE, Bhubaneshwar Chapter, SOA, Bhubaneshwar, as well as IEEE and IMMT on “Declining Interest in Engineering Education” in the auditorium hall of SOA, Bhubaneshwar on 18th April 2023. This lecture was also recorded and put on YouTube under a Web link (https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqKyF21_T5E&ab_channel=INAEBBSR) by INAE. • Prof. Prem Vrat attended the 37th Foundation Day function of INAE on 20th April 2023 at Research & Innovation Centre, IIT Delhi in which Dr V.K Saraswat, Member of Niti Aayog, was the Chief Guest and Director, IIT Delhi, was the Guest of Honour. It was attended by Fellows of INAE and NCR in physical mode as well as virtual mode. • Prof. Prem Vrat was a Guest of Honour at the Students’ Award Ceremony (SAC) of the Delhi Chapter of IEEE on 23rd April 2023. Prof. A Q Ansari, President of the IEEE Delhi Chapter, was the Chief Guest. • Prof. Prem Vrat was Chief Guest at the inauguration of a National Conference on “Innovation in Technology and Management for Sustainable Future” (ITMSF-2023) at GIPS, Greater Noida, on 29th April 2023. • Prof. Prem Vrat attended the award ceremony of the IIT Delhi Alumni Association in the AGM on 29th April 2023 at IIT Delhi. • Prof. Prem Vrat delivered an online lecture on “Quality in Project Management” in an e-Vidya Certificate Programme on Project Management organized by IIT Delhi on 30th April 2023. • Prof. Prem Vrat was invited to attend the book launch of the book “Cyber Encounters” by Sh. Ashok Kumar, IPS, DGP Uttarakhand, co-authored by Mr O.P Manocha, Ex DRDO. It was attended by top Police officers like Ex. DGP Uttar Pradesh and Haryana ADGP, CISF, New Delhi; Delhi Police Commissioner and IIT Delhi faculty and alumni. The book cites 12 real-life stories of cyber-fraud and gives tips to prevent these. Shri. Ashok Kumar and his wife were students of Prof. Prem Vrat at IIT Delhi, and acknowledged his presence as their guru on this occasion. • Prof. Prem Vrat delivered lectures on Supply Chain Management at IIT Delhi in the month of April 2023 as an Honorary Professor.
