The APG School Learning Resource Centre takes its journey each year as a
provider of information supporting the teaching and learning needs of the school
academic programs. We get hold of every opportunity or idea to advance and
enhance our resources keeping abreast to the learning and teaching of the academic
group as well as the emerging technological needs of learners in the 21st century.

We hope to be able to respond to every request or demand of every member of the
APG School community bearing in mind the Kaizen philosophy: set goals to
improve everyday in every way.

This Annual Report contains the library accomplishments for SY 2011-2012. This
highlights facts, figures, and improvements within the library resources and
services given a particular year that may be utilized as a point of reference for
library’s future plans and projects.

IV. READING PROGRAMS AND PROMOTIONS

A. INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL BOOK CLUB (ISBC)

The participation of APG School to the ISBC was first announced to the parents on 2nd
February, 2010 with the following objectives; (1) to promote reading in APG School,
and (2) to connect every child with the best selection of UK titles as well as to receive
the benefit of fantastic discount offer from ISBC. It has been successful for 3 years now,
with its increasing number of orders from the students and parents.

The library has been running the ISBC for 3 consecutive years. It is evident that the
ISBC has been very agreeable to APG students as there is an increasing number of
book rewards from SY 2009-2010 to SY 2011-2012.
As for SY 2011-2012, the library has accommodated a total request of 820 items from
252 students that made a total of 303 volumes of book rewards added to the library
collection (inclusive of the prizes awarded to students for winning in reading
contests/programs).

B. READING WEEK 2012

The Reading Week Program was run from 25th to 29th March with the theme
Read…Move the World! There were fun activities that were facilitated to promote

the enjoyment of reading to all students in all levels. Choral Presentations by selected
students from Grades 1 to 3 were performed in the Morning Assembly.
This year, the event was made it bigger to accommodate kids in Nursery & KG for
some story telling sessions during break periods. A parent was specially invited to
share stories for this activity.
The library has also prepared a Puppet Show to entertain kids from Grade 1. It was
a collaborative effort of some teachers and the librarians that made the first day of
the Reading week an enjoyable one.
Over 287 blank bookmarks were given to Grades 2 to 3 during the library period to
facilitate the Bookmark Making Contest. A winner from each class was selected by
the library staff and narrowed the 49 selected bookmarks to five finalists: Kadeeja
Saeed (2B), Zainab Shaker (2G), Mahmood Jameel Mirza (3C), Fatima Sayed
Ahmad (3C), and Badriya Abdulla (3A).
The entry of Kadeeja Saeed (2B) was chosen as the grand prize winner for the best
designed bookmark. The bookmarks were judged in coordination with the Art
department.
Fall into Reading activity has been facilitated during the English classes of 4th, 5th,
and 6th to give the students the opportunity to share their ideas and experiences
about reading. There were 17 winners selected from different classes. Five students
made it to the top;
Zain (6A) 1st place, entered “Reading makes me dive in my imagination. It makes
me feel that everything is possible. Reading makes my life a wonderland”
Jenan S. Moh’d (4B), 2nd place, wrote “Reading is the best for learning; it’s like a
candle that lights up your brain and makes you smart.”
Noor Khalil (6B), was placed 3rd, said “For me, reading is a heaven of knowledge,
and it widens my imagination. Books are my best friends.”

The READ-O game has been facilitated in the morning assembly to have fun and
learning activity for the Higher Grade students.

C. 10th ANNUAL BOOK FAIR

The 10th Annual Book Fair with the theme “A Nation of Readers is a Nation Rising,
was another successful event in SY 2011-2012. It is facilitated yearly to promote the
love of books among APG School community. Special guest, Eman Aseeri, an author
& artist, was invited to grace the event 20th December 2011. There were 7 bookshop
participants who were given the chance to exhibit their materials for one week,
namely: Majestic, Al Batra, Hobbies Stationery, Barnes & Noble, Tahera Bookshop,
Learnex Educational Toys, and Sanabel.

D. 1st APG BOOK DRIVE

The 1st APG Book Drive was launched on 23rd April, 2012 with the theme “A book
from every home, a book for every orphan.” Donors were given donor pins sponsored

by the Learning Resource Centre. Students were encouraged to place their
dedication on each donated item as an acknowledgment of their gift to the orphans
in Bahrain. The library was able to gather 105 books from the book drive which was
facilitated until 29th April 2012.

E. WORLD BOOK & COPYRIGHT DAY

APG School celebrates the first World Book and Copyright Day on 23rd April, 2012.
Video presentations from UNESCO were shown to the higher grade students in the
morning assembly. The Book Drive was also introduced with its objective to share a
book to orphans in Bahrain. Videos on plagiarism and how to proper citation on
sources were also shown the following days side by side with a talk on the turnitin
online software to given to promote awareness on how to avoid plagiarism.

mainly to sustain the library’s vision as a leading-edge provider of information that

C. OTHER ITEMS

The 2nd edition of American Accent Training kit written by Ann Cook has been
acquired to be used as main tool for training teachers in speaking English in
American accent. It is designed as a guide to speaking English for everyone who
speaks English as a second language. This training pack includes: Book, Five
Compact Discs, and Teaching Aids.
