Next, this super-clean E46 M3 is a 2006 SMG model.
Owner is Des Moodley and credits
to him for keeping this sample un-
touched, and in a condition that
allows one to truly appreciate a
milestone in BMWs era - in building
Sports coupes that can be easily
used as a daily drive. A true ex-
ample of ///M brilliance
The E92 M3 pictured here be-
longs to Nicolas Zentelis.
It’s an almost brand new 2013
DCT Spec, and it’s in the most
appealing colour. To anyone
that ever doubted BMWs ability
to combine style & elegance
with performance & handling
need to look no further than the
E92 M3. As I have said before,
the competitors ‘equivalent’
cars in this segment and price
range do not cover the basis of
a sports car as well as the M3
does.
Yes, the M3 will still live on, but the 'M3' label will be reserved for the four door variant of the 3 se-
ries, and the 2 door versions, will be labeled M4. It’s a change that BMW themselves chose to go
ahead with. Some of us are not comfortable with change and are therefore not happy with this
and find it strange that BMW would make such a drastic alteration to their most successful label.
Change is inevitable. It is a constant. Everything in life changes. Some changes happen over a
period and some happen in a split-second. We as humans change - in growth, in appearance in
mindset etc. The weather changes. Even George Bush turned black…..
It’s just how we adapt ourselves to a new wave of change.
I think BMW have their reasons for changing the M3 to M4, probably to clearer identify their ev-
er-growing model line-up.
However, this is not the only change made to this new incoming model. The motor will no longer
be a naturally aspirated one as has been for the last 30 years. Following the tradition started with
the F10 M5s/F13 M6s, the new M3/M4 will also be turbo-charged.
And here so, we enter into a brand-new era with the car-maker that we have followed and
learned to love for all these years.
I do however find it amazing that the change in smaller capacity engines coincide with the mas-
sive change that is happening or has happened in the Formula 1 circus.
F1 cars will be running 1.6litre Turbo V6 motors from the 2014 season, phasing out the current 3.5L
V8 engines. Although BMW no longer partakes in this sport, it just shows that they are in-tune with
happenings in the future of the automobile industry.
Do we think that the name change and smaller capacity engine will make the M4 slower or less
capable in handling than its M3 predecessors? I certainly think not.
So we anxiously await the arrival of the ‘new benchmark of Automotive Engineering’ and the
most successful and dearly loved of BMWs entire production line-up.
If you are still unhappy about the changes made to the new car, then as these pics show, the M3
coupes’ are still alive and kicking, be it a one year old or 20 years old car.
Find yourself a truly magnificent sample and enjoy Motoring Perfection. The magic will still shine.
A huge thank you to Sanjay Adjodia of Sandton Auto for offering
up space for us to do the photography at this BMW dealership.
“Sandton Auto dealership is situated in the heart of Sandton, the
epicentre of commerce in South Africa, and sells more than 100
new and used vehicles each month. In addition, it services 70 vehi-
cles per day.
Sandton Auto was first dealership to be awarded ‘M Certified’ sta-
tus and has achieved its targets in all areas of operation and has
consistently been ranked among the top five in the BMW network.”
Daytona Group
On the day, I had the fortunate opportunity of a brief 30 minute chat with General Manager Steven Lowth.
Steven has been manager at Sandton Auto for the last 2 years. We asked him some BMW related questions:
Q:What are your thoughts on BMW as an automotive vehicle maker?
“A BMW is a fanatics car. It is built by passionate people for passionate drivers. It is a cult car, and older models
are becoming more sought after and classical.
A strong case of point was the E46 330i, It was bulletproof and became very desirable with
tuners.
When cars fall out of motorplan it gives fanatics extra room to play with in terms of aftermarket tuning and addi-
tions. And parts are available.”
Q:Tell me about BMW SA.
“BMW SA wants their brand protected. They have taken a long time to build it to where it is. But, they should ac-
knowledge that it is their followers that have created the extent to which the brand is at today. Without custom-
ers and clientele they have nothing. Customers should adhere to standards.”
Q: Your history with BMW cars?
“From the past my highlight was definitely the classics of which I had 3 x 2002’s and 1x 2800cs coupe. However,
my favourite BMW by far is the F10 535d. Its like driving your lounge with the matched torque of any sports car.”
With a laugh and a smile, Steven jumps to relating a true story about a diesel-powered 5 Series.
“I was driving a 535d, with my wife in the passenger seat. We were on the R21 from Gilloolys, and we were passed
by a white Maserati Quattroporte at around 250/260kph.
Traffic slowed down after a bit causing me to catch up with him at the Marlboro Rd dip. I then managed to line
up next to him at a red robot. My wife then turns to me and says “Don’t even think about it!” Oh, and did I men-
tion she was 9 months pregnant?. I left the vehicle settings in ‘Normal Mode’ and as soon as the lights turned
green we floored it. We arrived at the next robot neck & neck. At this robot I changed the settings to ‘Sport
Mode’ and gave this Maserati the hiding of his life. I think that driver was unpleasantly surprised. A V8 sports sa-
loon being beaten by a comfortable diesel family car.”
Q: Tell us what you think about the future of BMW?
“There is certainly a very bright future ahead. The BMW team is pioneers in their thinking. They strive to guarantee
Best Quality, Innovative Designs & retain the ‘feel good factor’ that their products offer. And with striving for a
better future, they are still sticking to their basic roots of building ‘Drivers Cars’.”
Q: Your thoughts on the new M4?
“Well, I think they should have kept it as an M3. The M3 label has a huge cult following.”
Q: Any release date & pricing on the new M4 model yet?
“Not as yet, we all still await”
Another stunning M3 joined us for the photoshoot. This E92 coupe
belonging to Megan Moodley is simply delicious. It is garnished
with a set of 20” Vossen Wheels and full Akrapovic Exhaust sys-
tem. We thank Megan for making the time and effort.
We were also graced with the presence of a gorgeous model, Shawnee Tracy
Reid, who is truly gifted with a beautiful personality.
Thanks to Tyrone Noble for the breathtaking photography, and a big thanks to
Mohammed Sheik Rassool for arranging the setup for the day.
CAPE TOWN TUNNEL RUN / 30th August 2015
When we announced that we will be doing a second Tunnel Run for all BMW Drivers in and around the Cape Town area, eager fans were over-
joyed with excitement. It was the engraving joy remembered by those that joined in at last years’ event which fuelled the anticipation.
This time the road would lead to Worcester, 105km out of the Cape Town CBD. A first meet-up point for the guys travelling closer from the CBD
was arranged by Grant and the BMW Car Club of Cape Town, at the Auto Atlantic dealership, thereafter meeting the rest of us at the Engen
Garage on the N1 Highway.
Reiny & Clive Salie of BMSquad gathered their crowd at the N1 City parking lot and also met us at the Winelands 1-Stop.
The Engen Truck stop parking, which is usually reserved for 18 wheeler cargo carriers, was once again packed with BMWs off all types. Once
the said time of 10:30 approached another 15 minutes was given for the late-comers before convoying back on the N1 to Worcester via the
Huguenot Tunnel. A count of just over 190 cars left the Engen Winelands 1-Stop.
Auto Atlantic BMW Dealership, courtesy of Jacqui Chelin kindly arranged a ‘front’ vehicle for us in the form of a new F15 X5 driven by appoint-
ed BMW Genius Nicholas Burger.
We were also accompanied by Metesh Naran who drove all the way from Kimberley for this event.
Our final destination in Worcester was the Mountain Mill Mall and all the BMs were routed to a designated open parking area pre-arranged by
the BMSquad guys from Worcester.
CAPE TOWN TUNNEL RUN / 30th August 2015
Upon entering the mall area, we were
graced with a very warm welcome from
Gamiem Isaacs and his team of the
Worcester BMW Dealership. They voluntarily
handed out gifts to the first 150 cars that
arrived. They also had a space inside the
mall with some new cars displayed.
Gamiem commented
“Worcester BMW has been operating from
its current premises for 26 years.
We have a history of being the rural winners in service delivery and customer service in South Africa
It was our pleasure to be part of your Tunnel Run 2015 and we look forward to future endeavours with SABeemer
We need to thank YMT Fitment Centre (Yaseen Hoosen) who organised the venue at Mountain Mill Mall
I think Worcester’s residents were in awe of the spectacle of all those BMW’s
It is a rare sight to see such a magnificent brand being represented by almost all its models both past and present.
Not even the weather could keep the crowd away.”
CAPE TOWN TUNNEL RUN / 30th August 2015
While socialising in the parking area, it began to rain, and soon the slippery surface drew some spin demonstrations from a few
skilled-drivers.
For me the real enjoyment of a Beemer is driving it on the open road. A clean stretch of tarmac to open up a little bit and drive away
from the hustle and bustle of the city life.
So for us very fortunate people in the Western Cape, we have some of the most picturesque roads out there. This mountainous N1 high-
way to Worcester is one of them.
These gorgeous mountains also happen to have a 3.9km tunnel in the middle of it, and some lovely sweeping bends thereafter.
The tunnel is the length of some hundred cars, so with almost 200 beemers driving in-line through it.... that’s’ a good noise. A noise that
makes the big guys, ladies, and their kids very very happy.
CAPE TOWN TUNNEL RUN / 30th August 2015
A satisfactory result when families, friends and individuals had a fantastic morning out.
Tilll the next one to be held on 02 OCTOBER 2016.

A rain soaked Kimberley did not dampen the spirits of the individuals involved as they were determined to play an assisting role to
these needy kids.
The kids as well as The Helen Bishop staff and residents were ecstatic at the donation which was handed over.
A humbled team leader Metesh Naran said :”It was a real eye-opening experience for us all, and we should really be thankful for
most of our daily blessings which we take for granted”
A big Thank You goes out to the following businesses and people that
generously donated to this humble cause. Romans Pizza (Katherine &
Elize); Just Water (Willie& Christa); JMK Panel & Paint (Jaques Barnes);

KIMBERLEY RESTHAVEN CHARITY DRIVE
Pics by Metesh Naran, Words by Candace Ludick
15 December 2014
Despite the rolling black-outs, cold showers and traffic congestion, SABeemer Kimberley
kept their promise to do a charity drive for the Resthaven Old age home.
Members met at the rendezvous point at 10:00 Saturday 06/12/2014.
With the members ready, the motorcade proceeded to collect the delicious parcel of
pizzas donated by Roman's Pizza Kimberley. The public joined in by taking pictures and
enquiring about the initiative.
Arriving at Rest Haven, members were met with curious eyes. As a power outage was
taking place, the home could'nt make lunch for residents and we arrived in time to save
the day. The residents were in the courtyard making the most of the morning breeze. They
were immediately grateful for the juice boxes being served.
Later they enjoyed the pizza, received a goodie bag as well as a hamper which consisted
of toiletries and bath essentials.
Members got to know more about the residents, such as the oldest resident, a lady who
was a young 96 years old. They enjoyed the company of a mother and her two sons. And
not forgetting the local comic Florie who really enjoyed the pizza.
As time came to leave, the members were greeted by smiling faces, waving hands and an interesting farewell which was "Thank you for leaving,
and really enjoyed your food.".
The day ended with a braai and good conversation at Jazz of Strings Pub. Members had the chance to get to know each other as well used the
time to plan an initiative to create awareness so that more people may join.
Thanks to our sponsors Shaun Barnes - NB Mechanical Sales, Romans Pizza Kimberley - Elize and Katherine, Clover Kimberley as well as all the guys
of SABeemer Kimberely that dug deep into their pockets to buy the goodie bags for the elderly.

Legend in Red
The little beemer that is so loved by millions around the country…The
legendary E30 325is.
So much is said about it, so many people want it. Some lucky ones own
it, but do not want to let go of it.
And then recently we came across a rare case of someone advertis-
ing one for sale with a non-negotiable price of 1.2 million ZARands.
But the madness doesn’t end there.
A good few months ago, I put a question to our facebook fans, (actu-
ally there were 2 instances – once with a 325is and an E82 1M next to it,
and then again with a 325iS and a Murcielago Lamborghini).
I asked, “Which of the two would you choose?”, and majority - in both
cases - ruled for the E30 325is.
This EVO1 version of the ‘South African E30 M3’ cost around R105,000
when it launched at the start of 1990s. The EVO2 which was up on
power and a few extra bits launched for around R120,000 between
1991/1992.
The E30 M3 was sold in other parts of the world but not in South Africa
because it wasn’t available in right hand drive. There are noticeable
differences between the E30 M3 and the 325iS. Although some parts
were shared between the two cars like the chassis and suspension, the
differences make each car unique in their own special way.
As is with the E30 M3 across the world, the E30 325is is a darling of a
car to touring car drivers. They were raced in a series across South
Africa and enjoyed major success thanks to its balanced handling and
smooth power delivery from the straight-six motors.
The 325is was applauded by
the public who were allowed
to buy these cars that were
originally produced for Group
N racing.
The E30 325is is now being
sought after by collectors
who are willing to pay at least
double the launch price for
a clean factory standard
example.
They are also properly re-
spected by the youth, whom
are actually younger than the
vehicle itself.
Only 508 of the 325iS was ever
produced, and this includes
EVO1 and EVO2 specs.
The very clean example you
see here belongs to Andre
Jack from KZN.
He owns this EVO1 for 7 years
and has an odometer read-
ing of only 70000kms.
Everything besides the radio is
as it was from the factory. The
Ubekaro cloth sports seats are
as pleasing to look at as it is
to sit in them.
This next bit was written by Deon Govender - as published in the Tribune Herald newspaper a while back :
“Andre Jack, director of Digital Print Express in uMhlanga, has been in the printing business with his father for 16 years and is passionate about
his work.
His passion for print is matched only by his passion for BMWs. He has owned about 30 BMWs and regards them as part of his family.
He loves buying classic BMWs, modifying them and in some cases passing them on to fellow enthusiasts.
In some BMW fan circles he is considered the ‘doctor’ of BMWs: you go him, get checked, get blinged and then you are off.
Jack has owned a few iconinc BMWs from the E30 range, including a BMW 333i which was the car to have in 1986, with a 3.3 litre straight six
engine modified to push out 220kw with no turbo or nitrous.
He also owned a number of coupes and four-door manual executives of the E30 range.
He now has one of the most loved BMWs’, a 325Is box-shape 1990 Evo1.
I still have the original receipt from Vereeniging BMW with the price at R79000.00 and the watch that came with it’ he quips.
He got the car from a 65-year old man in Cape Town; so, when he bought it, he was confident the car had not been abused.
The car is in pristine condition with no modifications and Andre intends to keep that spirit.
He hardly drives the car, keeping it locked away and treat it like a baby.
‘ I changed two batteries in one year because the car was parked too long. I polish the car once a month and, trust me it looks better
than some cars you’d find in a showroom. The interior even smells like a new car’s’
Jack says he was offered R200,000.00 for the car , but has no intention of selling. ‘Its’ family now’ he says.
Heads turn whenever he drives the car – and not many old cars command such attention on the road.
Its no surprise that Andre will never part with his beloved 325Is. If you grew up loving this car, you would understand. And if you are hunt-
ing for one. You must envy Jack.
‘When you have a dream about driving and owning a specific car, if you search hard enough, you will get it,’ he says

Cape Town based
takes over Paarl
“We’re meeting at N1 at 6:30am
meneer”.
That was Clives’ message to me
the night before the highly an-
ticipated run. Clive was overly
excited. Damn, that’s early – was
my initial thought but neverthe-
less “See you guys then” I re-
plied.
The plan was to arrange a con-
voy of BMWs through the streets
of Paarl and ending up at the An-
nual Soccer Tournament held at
Boy Louw Sportsfield.
The organisers of this tournament, Paarl Soccer Club, had invit-
ed BM Squad and offered them an entire soccer field to park
their Beemers and chill-off for the rest of the day.
Proceedings ran smoothly from Cape Town along the N1 free-
way with 24 Beemers driving in convoy.
Upon entering Paarl, the BM Squad, headed by their ‘General’
Reiny Salie, was met with some pleasant local Traffic Officials
who were to escort the convoy through the Paarl CBD, then via
the suburbs to the Soccer Tournament.
From a passenger and spectator point of view, this convoy was just spectacular. The traffic wardens spared no hesitation
in making the BM Squad welcome and paving a clear way for the cars to snake along the buzzing streets of a busy, ‘Satur-
day-morning-rushed’ streets of Paarl.
On-coming traffic was halted and traffic lights were cordoned off as pedestrians & bystanders stopped whatever they were
busy with to focus on the hordes, of BMW vehicles that invaded their vicinity. It was just epic.
There were even other drivers stopping to ask “where you guys heading to?” [some in kombuis-afrikaans (language)], then
making u-turns to follow the convoy.
After a 30minute drive around Paarl, we ended up at the Soccer Tournament, and Reiny swiftly arranged the cars in classic
BM-Squad style and form.
Other clubs that were present at the event was Toy-Freaks, and a biker group called Team R.To add some heated excitement
to already sun-blazed soccer field, the organizers thought up a challenge between the two car clubs.
BM Squad and Toy Freaks would go up
against one another in a one-on-one duel
in 5 categories.
1.Best/Neatest Body – no female or male
models for this one, just cars.
2.Best Sound-Off,
3.Best Rev-Off,
4.Best/Neatest Engine Bay,
5.Best Mag Wheel,
BM Squad won Rounds 1 - Carl red E30 325i , 2 - Shahied 118i hatch , 3 - Bradley – E30i Multivalve.
lastly, dual Number 6 was to see which car would win in a drag race. The vehicles were to be pushed with engines not running by members of the
club and the winner was the car that rolled over the line in the lead. The lighter Toyota won that one.
It was really a fun day that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone that took part.
Few words from Reiny and Clive Salie, Founding members of BMSquad.
“Watch out as we coming for those BMW enthusiasts in a“dorpie” or city near you”.

Technical Tips on keeping tunetech.co.za
your Turbo sweet.
1.Easy warm up: let the oil temperature regulate before you drive hard, keep an eye on the oil gauge
as it goes up slowly and reaches an idle oil temp which will be after the water temp is normal.
2.Good clean oil, often.
3.Don’t turn off a hot engine, idle for a minute or drive easy for the last couple of kilometres of a trip.
You giving the turbo a chance to cool down before turning off the engine. Oil flows through it and
keeps it cool.
The 335’s are also water cooled and the water pump stays on to cool down the turbo. Even so I would
still wait a minute before cutting the engine especially if you let the turbo boost hard.
I do this with my 3lt turbo vehicle. When I fill diesel at the garage I keep the engine running.
