The Hatfield Heath Festival, which originated in the early 1970s, saw a hiatus until 2007 when a dedicated group of volunteers breathed new life into it. With the exception of 2020 and 2021, it has been an annual gathering ever since. The festival's primary goal is to foster community cohesion within Hatfield Heath, operating independently of commercial interests. Participation from various village clubs and groups is encouraged, with proceeds from their activities benefiting their respective organizations, a portion of which contributes to the festival's expenses. A heartfelt acknowledgment extends to the committee members and volunteers whose tireless efforts ensure the event's smooth execution. Special gratitude is extended to Michael Hockley for generously providing the straw bales for the arena setup. Furthermore, immense appreciation goes out to all sponsors featured in this program. HATFIELD HEATH FESTIVAL CLASSIC CAR SHOW SPONSORED BY JE WHITE MOTORS When the festival was resurrected in approximately 2007, after a few years break, my dad John White and I were asked if we would run the car show again, to which we agreed as cars are a passion for the White family! It’s a very popular show, with many entrants returning year after year. We have 6 vehicle classes and 1 class for club stands. The vehicle classes are split as follows: A Veteran and Vintage – up to 1930 B Post Vintage – 1931-1945 C Post War – 1946-1959 D Classic – 1960-1975 E Modern Classic – 1976-1999 F Military/Commercial – any year With the club stands, local car clubs display their vehicles together in one area. The type of vehicles attending varies enormously with anything from an Austin Seven from the roaring 1920s to a Studebaker half ton American pick up. We normally have a display of motorbikes as well as more modern vehicles; we don’t turn anything interesting away! One of our entrants also brings along a selection of bicycles in various forms; one being a jet bike! There is no charge to enter; our policy is that if people are good enough to spend time preparing their cars for the show and then bring them along, they shouldn’t have to pay to do so. 17 PROGRAMME OF EVENTS HATFIELD HEATH FESTIVAL CLASSIC CAR SHOW
The weather plays a big part in how many entrants turn up on the day; one year we had over 300 vehicles! Not only do the cars attract visitors to the Hatfield Festival but in addition there can be as many as 400-500 classic car owners/their families who in turn enjoy the festival’s displays, stalls and stands and who also often take advantage of the facilities offered in Hatfield Heath such as the pubs and restaurants. Since John passed away in 2020, it has passed to me to keep the car show going. This I couldn’t do without the help and support of all my family – Melanie, Dave, Nicola, Ross and Richard, and my loyal band of helpers who turn up on the day, come rain or shine, Martin, Cyril, Duncan, Simon, Richard and Wendy. As a family we thoroughly enjoy the show and it is one of the first things entered on our calendar each year and our family business J E White Motors are proud to sponsor the event. Deep within the sprawling heathlands of Hatfield Heath, a magical adventure awaits young explorers at the Gruffalo Trail. For just £8 per entry, children embark on a journey across the rugged terrain, where every step holds a delightful surprise. Armed with a map and instructions, each child sets off on their quest, their eyes wide with anticipation. Along the way, they discover hidden tokens scattered throughout the trail, each station will be a Gruffalo based activity. Where children engage in playful challenges and games, their laughter echoing across the open landscape. But the true highlight of the adventure lies in the chance encounters with the legendary Gruffalo himself. With a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous grin, the mythical creature will make appearances throughout the day, delighting young adventurers with his larger-thanlife presence, and a chance to even grab a selfie. The explorers return to the starting point, their maps filled with collected tokens. With pride shining in their eyes, they receive a gleaming medal and a certificate, tangible reminders of their courage and perseverance.
