AUGUST 2023 CONGREGATION CEREMONY 15 I would like to first congratulate the 2023 graduating class of the University of Ghana School of Law. It is indeed gratifying to note that despite the uncertainties spawned by raging economic, social, political and environmental factors globally, the business of education and knowledge acquisition continues unabated. Therefore, in consonance with the twenty-first century’s fast-moving and competitive world of work, the College of Humanities remains committed to ensuring that its students are adequately prepared to face the challenges of the modern workplace. The College is equally committed to providing a fulfilling and enriching experience for our students during their period of study at the University of Ghana. The College has made significant strides in this vein since its establishment in August 2014. In addition, we continue to develop new demand-driven programmes, and forge partnerships and collaborations with universities and organizations worldwide to enhance our portfolio of courses and programmes. It is worthy of note that in January 2023, the School of Law introduced nineteen (19) new masters degree programmes. These are modern, cutting-edge one-year programmes designed to prepare students to face and address contemporary societal issues. I recommend them to you and look forward to a high enrollment rate from your cohort. We believe that your time as a student of the College has helped shape your worldview and provided the skills set needed to succeed in your future career. As you leave the four walls of the university to embark on your chosen careers and professions, I would like you to reflect on some of the distinctive moments of your university experience, and to harness this as a tool kit to go out and excel wherever your competencies and interests take you. MESSAGE FROM PROVOST Prof Daniel Frimpong Ofori Undoubtedly, the world of 2023 is a much-changed place from what it was when you first enrolled at the University of Ghana. Whilst the COVID-19 pandemic ravaged economies and brought nation states to their knees, the war in Ukraine also provided a murderous backdrop to your studies. It is, however, worth pointing out that amid the maelstrom of confusion and destruction, individuals, companies and countries made of the right stuff have ridden the storms and used their competitive advantages to grow and prosper. If there is a single lesson I want to leave you with today, it is this: that no matter what happens, opportunities exist in adversity. So, always look for the opportunities and make the most of them. With your departure from the University, you will be joining alumni of the College who provide vital human resources in various sectors of our country’s economy and beyond, and I ask that you serve as good ambassadors of the College and the University and you can start by contributing to the College Endowment Fund once you are financially able to, so that we can continue to nurture and support students of the College. I ask each of you to maintain your relationship with us and provide regular updates of your contact details so that we can reach you whenever necessary. As in 2022, we are again able to hold the 2023 graduation ceremony at the magnificent Great Hall of the University of Ghana. Whilst you share in the joy of this ceremony which celebrates your achievement with your mates, friends and family, endeavour to adhere strictly to the procedures laid out for the event. Once again, congratulations and every best wishes to each of you. May you be successful in your future endeavours. AUGUST 2023 CONGREGATION CEREMONY 15
