Warmest congratulations, graduands! You have

reasons we celebrate your success stories today.
As your degrees are awarded today, I urge you
to go out to pursue your respective careers with
confidence and diligence by relying on your

communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and
creativity. Analyse the world you encounter to make
a change; work with compassion and empathy; and
continue to develop yourselves to achieve laurels
in your field of endeavour, remembering that life is
a journey, not a destination.
I am glad that you made us part of your academic
journey. I encourage you to keep your relationship
with the College and join a network of University
of Ghana alumni worldwide. I am proud of you and
cannot wait to see you back on campus to share with
us your professional and personal achievements.
Our dear parents and guardians of graduands,
we appreciate your diverse support which has
made all these possible today. The challenges you

of study. Indeed, I commend you for making such
an investment in the education of your wards.
Congratulations! I thank you all for making the time

JULY 2022 CONGREGATION 29

MESSAGE Prof. R. D. Osei

FROM DEAN

Dear graduands, family and friends of graduands,
and all others here present for this great occasion,
On behalf of the Board of the School of Graduat.
Studies, and the Provosts of all four Colleges of the
University of Ghana, namely: the Colleges of Basic
and Applied Sciences, Education, Health Sciences,
and Humanities, I welcome you all to the July 2022
Congregation Ceremony.
This year is an important one for the School of
Graduate Studies as it marks 60 years of coordinating
graduate level programmes at the University of
Ghana. Since its inception in 1962, the School has
worked, and continues to work with all academic
units and the University of Ghana Computing
Systems to admit students, and train them in
their respective academic programmes until they
graduate. The graduation of students, therefore,
constitutes a hallmark of this University and so we
share the joy of all our graduating students, parents
and guardians, and sponsors of graduands. This
year’s ceremonies are particularly important as
they coincide with the increasing shift to the ‘new
normal’ of living with COVID-19. In spite of all the
challenges we have had with the COVID-19 since
2020, graduate students kept their perseverance
and spirits and pushed on with their research and
studies. It is for this perseverance that we have this
many graduands, including over 100 PhDs, being
part of this ceremony today. The opportunity to hold
this ceremony is reason to rejoice and to give thanks
to the Almighty God.
For this congregation ceremony, the School of
Graduate Studies, together with the four Colleges,
would be presenting over 600 graduands, including
103 PhDs. Looking at the impact of the COVID-19
pandemic, it is obvious that graduating this number
of students is a laudable achievement that gives
us cause to give thanks to the Almighty God. We
celebrate our graduands and congratulate them
and everyone who has contributed to the success
for which we are congregating today. May God bless
all graduands abundantly in all your endeavours, as
you progress in your career. We are truly proud of
you and remind you to always proceed in truth and
integrity and make the University of Ghana proud.
