16 UG@75 THANKSGIVING SERVICE Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! 1. Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation! All ye who hear, brothers and sisters draw near; Praise Him in glad adoration. 2. Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee; Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee; Ponder anew what the Almighty can do, If with His love He befriend thee. 3. Praise to the Lord, who, when tempests their warfare are waging, Who, when the elements madly around thee are raging, Biddeth them cease, turneth their fury to peace, Whirlwinds and waters assuaging. 4. Praise to the Lord, oh, let all that is in me adore Him! All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him; Let the Amen sound from His people again, Gladly for aye we adore Him. (Joachim Neander, 1650-1680 trans. by Catherine Winkworth, 1827-1878) Master, Speak! Thy servant heareth 1. Master, speak! thy servant heareth, waiting for thy gracious word. Longing for thy voice that cheereth; Master, let it now be heard. I am list’ning, Lord, for thee; what hast thou to say to me? 2. Speak to me by name, O Master, let me know it is to me; speak, that I may follow faster, with a step more firm and free, where the Shepherd leads the flock, in the shadow of the Rock. 3. Master, speak! Tho’ least and lowest, let me not unheard depart; Master, speak! For oh, thou knowest all the yearning of my heart, knowest all its truest need; speak! and make me blest indeed. 4. Master, speak! and make me ready, when Thy voice is truly heard, with obedience glad and steady, still to follow every word. I am listening, Lord, for thee; Master, speak, oh speak to me! (Frances Ridley Havergal 1836-1879) HYMNS

UG@75 THANKSGIVING SERVICE 17 Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us 1. Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us o’er the world’s tempestuous sea; guard us, guide us, keep us, feed us, for we have no help but Thee; yet possessing every blessing, if our God our Father be. 2. Saviour, breathe forgiveness o’er us: all our weakness Thou dost know; Thou didst tread this earth before us, Thou didst feel its keenest woe; lone and dreary, faint and weary, through the desert Thou didst go. 3. Spirit of our God, descending, fill our hearts with heavenly joy, love with every passion blending, pleasure that can never cloy: thus provided, pardoned, guided, nothing can our peace destroy. (James Edmeston, 1791-1867) Now thank we all our God 1. Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices, Who wondrous things has done, in Whom this world rejoices; Who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way With countless gifts of love, and still is ours today. 2. Oh, may this bounteous God through all our life be near us, With ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us; And keep us in His grace, and guide us when perplexed; And free us through all ills in this world and the next! 3. All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given, The Son, and Him Who reigns with Them in highest Heaven: The one eternal God, Whom earth and Heav’n adore; For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore. (Martin Rinkhart, 1586–1649 trans. by Catherine Winkworth, 1827–1878)
