9 Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa High-Level Panel Discussion I welcome you to this panel discussion and Book Launch as we mark the Day of Scientific Renaissance of Africa. The University of Ghana (UG) joins its African counterparts to highlight the Continent’s intellectual milestones in fulfilment of the AU (OAU) declaration. The declaration urges Africa’s scientific community to contribute substantially to the Continent’s development and capitalize on its vast resources. In 2022, the University of Ghana decided to institutionalize the celebration of DSRA. In line with this, the Office of Research, Innovation, and Development and the UG-POET led the organization of a series of events at the college level and a high-level panel event chaired by the Vice-Chancellor with the overall theme “Ghana Asks: Legon Answers,” with a specific focus on the challenge of managing plastic. At the end of last year’s celebrations, we noted with satisfaction the mastery engineered at the colleges and the quantum of knowledge, technologies, and innovations that were brought to the attention of our local and external stakeholders through exhibitions, various seminars and workshops. This year’s theme: Nurturing Resilience: Adopting Technology, Embracing Humanism, reflects the need to include diverse facets of human endeavour in education. As the University of Ghana celebrates 75 years of academic excellence, our focus on driving innovation and technology seeks to advance our research output and accelerate development. Central to this effort has been the establishment of technology spaces to nurture and support young talent and engender innovation and entrepreneurship in collaboration with industry. I invite you to engage with the panel and contribute to transforming the status quo. I wish you all the best Prof. Felix A.
