SOCIAL STUDIES GRADE 5

Final Social G.5 Book 1

Unit 3

Unit 7Artistic values, art culture of Thailand including painting, sculpture,

architecture, nativity, pottery and music is valuable for making a
living. Art can create jobs that lets people make money which can
sustain families and the government has also used it to promote
tourism, making a lot of tourism money for the country.

Mental / Morality values, away from the mind or morality, most Thais
respect the Buddhism religion, making them humble, such as
respecting and obedience to elders. Also quickly accept and adapt
to the new, do not adhere to the old, which may be due to Buddhist
tranquility.

Legal values in the past, Thailand was ruled in an absolute

monarchy. Thailand adopted the Book of Percepts, which was the

law of the Brahmins. Later, during the reign of King Chulalongkorn,

the law was adopted as in Western countries until the regime was

transformed into democracy with a monarch as its head, a

constitution, and the highest law to govern the country. Such legal

evolution reflects the value of culture to the livelihood of Thais.

Manners and Respects value, of union culture, the proper conduct

of traditional Thai traditions such as filial piety, adult respect,

marriage traditions, and festivals. These are the same beliefs of all

Thai people who adhere to and it’s always been maintained. 44

Thai local wisdom Unit 7

Thai people have had their own culture since before the Sukhothai
period. At the same time, the culture of other people has finally
become Thai culture. In addition, local wisdom, talent, and skills
have been accumulated and transferred over a long period of time.
Thailand’s local wisdom means the knowledge, ability, and skill of
local people learning, selecting, adopting, developing and
transmitting to each other to solve problems and develop Thai
lifestyle.

Agriculture

Thailand’s local wisdom means the knowledge,

ability, and skill of local people learning,

Artistic

Local art wisdom is often expressed in the form

of paintings, sculpture, nativity, music, folk

play. Examples are drumming of the North,

singing falcon and Isao music of the Central

and playing the South’s dance and Menorah. 48

Thailand has abundant natural resources, so local
people process natural resources into daily
necessities and products for sale and use in both
industrial and handicraft industries, such as making
furniture, sewing, matting and weaving as
handicraft wisdom.
Natural Resources and Environment
Local people have been using natural resources to
make a living, such as finding forest items for sale,
so these people love, cherish and help to maintain
them. Therefore, caring for the environment is very
important to sustain their livelihood.

Philosophy, religion and tradition

Most Thais believe in the rule of karma. Local wisdom in
this area is often handed down through literature
teachings such as priestly tradition to preserve the
abundance of natural forests and merit making.

Preservation and dissemination of local intelligence

Study and collect information related to their local intelligence.
Collected information about Thai cultures of research groups are
turned into books for educational purposes.

Restoration
Some local wisdom is being forgotten or may be lost. This kind of
intelligence belongs to its own locality, such as bringing buffalo
back to help plow the fields instead of using tractors which
consume fuel. Buffalo plowing was revived and re-used thanks to
preserved local wisdom.

Promising not to be lost from the locality, the people must have
conscience, recognize the value and importance of local wisdom.
Participate in various traditional and cultural activities, or learning

facilities. Such as the Sgt. Maj. Thawee Folk museum.

Sergeant Thawee is Sgt. Maj. Thawee Buranaket, a good
person of Song Kwai, Phitsanulok. He collected folk utensils
in the past to be Thailand's heritage and a lifetime learning
center of descendants and the community. The museum
inherits cultural, traditional, and lifestyle heritage and has
become worthy until now.

Development of local wisdom may change according to the times.
If you bring knowledge of science and technology to develop it to
suit modern lifestyles, it will also create added value as a career
and income for local residents such as production or OTOP

One Tambon, One Product' (OTOP) aims to promote the
unique products made by local communities, by utilizing
their indigenous skills and craftsmanship combined with
available natural resources and raw materials.

Transmission of intelligence. Local intelligence is
mostly personal knowledge, it is distributed to the
community by a family or teacher’s instruction,

be attained within the same or a smaller budget.

Consumer taste refers to the products and services that consumers

increased leads. When customers find a product
they trust, they return, make repeat purchases,

Other factors in production of goods and services

Oil prices Oil is the key energy used in the production of goods
and services, it powers machinery and transportation. If oil prices
increase, the costs of production increase and that is passed on
to the consumer as product prices increase.
Raw material prices if raw materials are more expensive,
manufactures may produce fewer goods and services to cover
costs and it will result in the price of the product increasing.
Number of competitors can affect product quality and price. If

competition, more supply than demand which can lower prices.

Banks also offer other services such as bank transfers,

Deposit Interest is rewards paid by a bank or
financial institution to a person who owns
money under its terms and conditions. The
amount is different depending on the persons
situation and the type of deposit as well as the
amount of time of deposit.

Loan interest is the money that borrowers pay to banks or financial
institutions when they borrow money. You might borrow money from a
bank to buy a house or to start a business. The interest rate will depend
on many factors including its use, how long you borrow for, what collateral
you can offer the bank and your personal credit score. Loan interest will
always be a lot higher than deposit interest as the banks aim to make a lot
of profit from their customers.

The one who needs to borrow money is the borrower or debtor and the
one who gives money (the bank) is the lender or creditor. The borrower
promises to repay by a certain future date, the loan will be made based on
trust in the borrower or securities brought by the borrower called
collateral.

cannot repay the money on time then the bank can lawfully take your
collateral and sell it to get the money back.

The one who needs money is the Borrower and the ones

village wants to employ a full sufficiency economy, it would be like
returning to the Stone Age…This sufficiency means to have enough to
live on. Sufficiency means to lead a reasonably comfortable life, without
excess, or overindulgence inluxury, but enough. Some things may seem
to be extravagant, but if it brings
happiness, it is permissible as long as it is within the means of the
individual…”
