Three Ways The CARES Act Can
Maximize Your Giving in 2020

As a result of the impact on our economy during the pandemic, the CARES
Act was enacted to provide tax relief which includes options for charitable
giving. With the understanding that these changes only apply to 2020,
there is great potential to make a larger, life-changing gift to Orlando
Health this year which will directly impact the patients and families we
serve.

Below are three strategies you may wish to consider as you plan your
year-end giving.

01 Take advantage of charitable incentives.
02
03 All donors taking the standard deduction in 2020 will have the option to save $300
on their taxes in exchange for cash donations of $300 or more. For those who plan
to itemize in 2020, there is no adjusted gross income (AGI) limitation. Meaning, the
existing cap on annual contributions has increased from 60% to 100% of their AGI.

Use the “bunching strategy” for cash donations.

Instead of spreading out your giving over several years we encourage you to
"bunch" your donations into one large gift this year to take advantage of these tax
savings.

Consider gifting cash from depreciated stock.

If you are claiming a loss in the market this year, consider making a cash donation
equivalent to anticipated earnings and offset the taxes by claiming a charitable
deduction.

The planned giving team encourages to you consult with your professional
advisor to ensure you are informed of your options. If you have questions
on how the CARES Act may impact your giving to Orlando Health, or if you
would like to discuss tax-wise ways of giving, please contact us.

The Gift of a Lifetime

Throughout this stay-at-home season, many have used the time to finalize
their estate plans. If doing so, consider including Orlando Health in your will
or trust. Crafting a legacy gift through beneficiary designations or bequests is
a meaningful way to make a greater impact in the future of the patients and

families we serve.
Please reach out to our planned giving team to discuss

how you can plan your impact.

What Does Your Year-End Giving Look Like?

As we round the corner on 2020, now is the time to plan your year-end, tax-deductible gifts.
It has been a unique and special time to see our generous donors support the needs of our
hospitals and front-line care teams. We are grateful for you and the encouragement from
everyone in the community. Here are a variety of gifts to consider:

CASH
Gifting cash is an easy way you can receive an immediate tax benefit. Be aware
of the many advantages of gifting cash in 2020 and how the CARES Act can
maximize your giving.
STOCK
For appreciated stock held for more than one year, receive a tax deduction for
the full value of the stock while avoiding payment of capital gains taxes.
DONOR-ADVISED FUNDS
If you have a donor-advised fund, the Orlando Health Foundation can be
selected to receive grants from your fund to complete your year-end
contribution. You may also designate us as the beneficiary on your fund which
would help impact the future of Orlando Health.
IRA DISTRIBUTION
For those who are 70 ½ or older and are not dependent on the funds from their
IRA, be sure to consider a qualified charitable distribution up to $100,000 to
reduce future required minimum distributions (RMD).
To have your gift qualify for 2020 tax deductions, or to benefit from the CARES Act,
charitable contributions must be postmarked by December 31, 2020.
