Orlando Health Foundation - Summer 2023 Inspire

inspireSummer 2023

inspire - Summer 2023 2 Dear Friends and Supporters, Summer is upon us and in Florida, that often means afternoon rains and scorching heat, but with a lot of sunshine in the mix. And while this combination fuels growth in nature, summertime at Orlando Health and Bayfront Health also spurs significant growth. Within a large healthcare system such as ours, advancement is always on the horizon. With your support, Orlando Health Foundation and Bayfront Health Foundation have been able to offer the funding needed for programs and service lines to develop to their next stage – raising the bar for medical care in our region. First, Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute’s downtown complex has begun Phase I of its growth plan. Guests are now able to access imaging, lab and pharmacy services, a 62-exam room clinic, the ambulatory surgery center and rehabilitation space. Phase II, the first orthopedic specialty hospital in Florida, is expected to open August 2023. Second, this past February, Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) achieved Magnet recognition, joining Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies in the award’s reflection of nursing professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care. The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® distinguishes organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. Orlando Health ORMC is the only adult acute care hospital in Orlando to achieve Magnet recognition. In further advancements, most recently, four Orlando Health hospitals were awarded 2023 Leapfrog Top Grades for Patient Safety: • Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, • Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital, • Orlando Health ORMC and • Orlando Health South Lake Hospital. Across a spectrum of services and facilities, Orlando Health has been recognized both locally and nationally for providing high quality care, and that level of care reflects the fundraising support you offer Orlando Health and its patients each day. Thank you for your continued investment in our life-saving mission. Gratefully, John W. Bozard, President Orlando Health Foundation Bayfront Health Foundation

inspire - Summer 2023 4 In December of 2020, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children opened the first and only Seacrest Studio in the state of Florida. Brought to the hospital by the Ryan Seacrest Foundation in partnership with the Orlando Health Foundation, the studio has been a marvelous addition to the Child Life Program at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer. Over the past two and a half years, the studio has brought an excitement and energy to our hospital and its patients like never before. Filled with all the equipment a radio or TV studio may have, our Seacrest Studio not only entertains patients through a closedcircuit broadcast to patient rooms, but also gives them an opportunity to get creative by starring in a show, recording their own music or interviewing a celebrity. This initiative has brought many opportunities for both patients and team members to become involved in digital programming and learn new skills. Education is an important aspect of the studio, with much of the programming centered around learning. In the Fall of 2022, the team welcomed its first class of interns. An exciting addition, the intern program allows college students to learn from all the studio has to offer while enhancing its interactivity with patients. The inaugural ten interns, from the University of Central Florida and Rollins College, spent 20 hours per week throughout the semester in the studio. Liz Sivco, Studio Interns in Seacrest Studio Spark Joy for Patients

5 OrlandoHealthFoundation.com Production Manager, oversees the program. A former high school TV production teacher with a background in production, Liz joined the studio team in March of 2022 with a focus on starting the intern program. The interns have an assortment of backgrounds and skills ranging from gaming to salsa dancing to animation. While the intern pool featured a variety of students with different majors, many had experience with digital media and communications that drew them to the internship. The program provides a unique learning experience for students, many of whom are very new to the production equipment the studio uses. “At first it can be daunting, seeing all these lights, buttons and faders. We break it down and teach them, and by the end of the semester they’re impressed with how much they’ve learned,” says Liz. During the semester, each intern is tasked with developing their own show for the studio broadcast to educate and inspire patients. The interns work as a team and create materials to promote their shows within the hospital. Each student brings their unique skill set to the team and provides innovative and creative ways to enhance programming. Having these students be a part of the studio team each semester helps to keep the programming fresh and exciting for patients. Whether passing out the prizes for weekly Bingo or helping a patient star in a broadcast, the interns help bring joy and fun to the patients of Orlando Health Arnold Palmer. “My time as an intern has been one of the best experiences I have ever had. Not only did I meet incredible people and learn so much about radio and television production, but I was also lucky enough to see the impact that I had on these families as a result of being a part of the studio.” – Hallie (pictured in the middle above), Spring 2023 Intern from the University of Central Florida. “It’s been a wonderful thing to be able to work with these young students,” Liz says. “Our studio is here to help patients, but it is great to see how its equipment can provide other experiences and the ability for these students to grow.”

Special Guest: Ryan Seacrest TV and radio show host Ryan Seacrest, accompanied by his parents, Gary and Connie (pictured below), visited Seacrest Studios at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in May. This was their first in-person visit to our studio since it opened in December 2020 — they could only join virtually for the grand opening due to COVID-19 restrictions. Ryan is known for hosting shows like LIVE with Kelly and Ryan, On Air with Ryan Seacrest and American Idol. Seacrest Studios at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer is the 11th location provided by the Ryan Seacrest Foundation and the Orlando Health Foundation. During his visit, Ryan hosted a show with several patients and families in attendance. They were all excited to have this opportunity to interact with Ryan. We are thrilled to have the Seacrest Studio at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer as the studio and its staff continue to make an enormous difference in the day-to-day lives of patients by delivering fun and engaging programming.

7 OrlandoHealthFoundation.com Legacy-Making in Lake Mary The doctors of Emergency Physicians of Central Florida provide urgent medical treatment throughout Orlando Health’s hospitals and free-standing emergency departments. Since the mid-1980s, our two organizations have collaborated to treat emergent patients with the highest-level of care. This deep collaboration, with physicians from the practice serving in multiple hospital leadership roles throughout the years, has led to a partnership which ultimately increases quality and efficiency, benefitting patients in our community. The leaders of Emergency Physicians of Central Florida have contributed to the growth of our healthcare organization through philanthropic support - now exceeding $1.6 million - for more than 30 years. Their philanthropic gifts have touched emergency and/or trauma care at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC), Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital and Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. The gift to Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital will provide much-needed funds that will impact emergency care and healing capabilities for Central Florida residents in the years to come. Through innovative equipment, ground-breaking technology and novel therapies for emergency medicine, philanthropy allows physicians and caregivers to offer the best treatment available in our region. This year, Emergency Physicians of Central Florida have committed their support to Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital, set to open in Fall 2024.

9 OrlandoHealthFoundation.com Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital Physician Event On February 9, Shawn Molsberger, President, Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital and Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital, in partnership with Orlando Health Foundation, hosted a fundraising event for physicians and his leadership team. With the new Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital coming out of the ground, this was a great opportunity to gather those closest to the project to celebrate how far we have come while also sharing about the role philanthropy will play within the new hospital. The event took place at Lake Mary Events Center and provided an opportunity for our physicians and leaders to have a fun-filled and relaxed evening together. During the program there were several key speakers including Mayor David Mealor of Lake Mary and Orlando Health’s Chief Physician Officer, Jamal Hakim, MD. There was an impressive turn out of physicians and leaders at the event, and since then, there has been an overwhelming amount of philanthropic support. With our very own physicians and leaders investing in our mission, we now get to share this powerful message with the community as we begin fundraising with those outside of our organization. To learn more about supporting the new Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital, please contact Erin Hoover at [email protected]. A special thank you to our event sponsor and wonderful building partner, Brasfield & Gorrie. inspire - Summer 2023 12 Bayfront Health St. Petersburg is nationally accredited as a Comprehensive Stroke Center and is the only state-accredited Level II Adult Trauma Center in Pinellas County. Each year, Bayfront Health’s emergency rooms care for nearly 49,000 patients, including more than 2,500 critically ill or injured trauma patients. On an annual basis, to keep the team at top-preparedness for the most emergent situations, Bayfront Health holds two major drills on-site for Emergency Management. This past Spring, a drill was performed to certify and familiarize team members in three areas of response: Hospital Emergency Response Teams (HERT), Decontaminations and Mass Casualty Incidents. During the training exercise, Bayfront Health collaborated with St. Petersburg Fire Department, Pinellas County Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) Team and the National Guard’s 48th Civil Support Team. The joint training aimed to advance communication between the county emergency response counterparts, increasing response time and proficiency. During the training, the Pinellas County Hazmat Team and the National Guard’s 48th Civil Support Team demonstrated their decontamination process to Bayfront Health team members through a decontamination tent set up on hospital property. This will allow our decontamination teams to properly and efficiently care for patients who may have been exposed to chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear contaminants. Over the three days of the exercise, over 200 nurses were trained, and more than 50 leaders familiarized themselves with the processes of all three response areas. For all communities, having top-quality emergency care close to home is not only a strong comfort but a necessity. For the Tampa/St. Petersburg/Clearwater metropolitan area, when the unexpected happens, the team at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg stands ready and equipped to handle any emergency situation. Annual Drill Keeps Bayfront Health Team at Top Preparedness for Emergency Response “This training has helped set the standard across the county for how involved our Emergency Management partnerships and trainings will be in the future, which will result in better care for our respective patients,” said Connor Macht, Bayfront Health Emergency Manager.

13 OrlandoHealthFoundation.com This past April, JoAnn Nestor, along with fellow members of the Bayfront Health Philanthropy Council hosted more than 60 female business and community leaders in St. Petersburg, Florida and the surrounding Pinellas County to introduce them to the mission of Bayfront Health. The evening’s discussion centered around the progress and growth of Bayfront Health since its purchase in 2020. Hospital leaders also shared plans for future growth of Bayfront Health, including several advanced programs and institutes. Philanthropic support plays a key role in these advancements by funding our facilities with cutting-edge technology, allowing team members to serve our community with the highest level of care available. Philanthropy Council Ladies Event The Bayfront Health Philanthropy Council welcomed friends, family, business and community leaders from across the St. Petersburg area to the Bayfront Medical Plaza for an evening focused on the mission of Bayfront Health. The first event held by the Council, which took place this past May, featured discussion of the priorities of Bayfront Health and plans to further evolve the hospital as the area’s most trusted leader for care. inspire - Summer 2023 14 Orlando Health Launches Robotic Cardiac Surgery Program Orlando Health has introduced a robotic cardiac surgery program, which is currently the only one of its kind in Orlando. The program provides robotic-assisted surgery for structural and valve disease, offering patients a minimally invasive approach to heart surgery. With the use of robotic-assisted surgery techniques, cardiac surgeons can make smaller incisions to repair the heart, resulting in less pain, fewer complications, shorter recovery, and greater satisfaction for patients. The incision length varies, but it could be as small as 3/8 inch to 1 inch, compared to traditional heart surgery, which requires an incision through the sternum that can be as long as 7 to 10 inches. “Without compromising quality or outcomes, we are able to offer patients the most minimally invasive approach to heart surgery,” said Michael Hanna, MD, MS, FACS, cardiac surgeon, Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute. The program is part of the Orlando Health Advanced Robotic Surgery Center, and it brings an array of treatment options for mitral valve disease. The robotic-assisted surgery provides benefits to surgeons, including improved access to anatomical structures, an ergonomic environment and three-dimensional visualization during the procedure, resulting in improved patient outcomes, less blood transfusions, infections and morbidity. Orlando Health is committed to delivering the latest medical technology and advancements to its patients, and it is proud to launch this cutting-edge robotic cardiac program.

15 OrlandoHealthFoundation.com James P. Caruso, Sr. and Christine S. Caruso Endowment In 1926, Phillip and Amelia Caruso moved to the then-small town of Orlando, Florida with their four children. Phillip, originally from Italy, turned a push-cart produce stand in New York City into Southern Fruit Distributors. Still known for their bluebird logo, members of the Caruso family developed Southern Fruit Distributors into one of the largest and most innovative companies in Florida. Another of the family’s endeavors, Pineloch Management Corp, is also a major leader in the Greater Orlando business community. Pineloch Management Corp has changed the face of Orlando and its surrounding area. Today, more than 25 years since its inception, Pineloch Management Corp continues to turn their diversified real estate assets, land developments, warehousing and agriculture holdings into a thriving family business. As part of this success, the Caruso family has made philanthropy a pillar of their organization. Dating as far back as 1985, the Caruso family has supported the Orlando Health Foundation, contributing to the advancement of medical care in the communities where they live and work. This year, Pineloch Management Corp created a $250,000 endowment in honor of James P. Caruso, Sr. and his wife, Christine S. Caruso. James “Jim” served as the longtime President and CEO of Pineloch Management Corp. Funds raised through investment dollars will be used to support the area of greatest need at Orlando Health. The Caruso family’s fingerprints are a part of the fabric of our community, and Orlando Health, as they have helped to build the metro Orlando area for nearly 100 years. As the next century unfolds, funds from the James P. Caruso, Sr. and Christine S. Caruso Endowment will fuel the continued advancement of healthcare. What is an endowment? An endowment through the Orlando Health Foundation generates ongoing income to help meet the future needs of patients at Orlando Health. Endowed funds are permanently invested, and a small portion of the fund is given each year to support a designated patient program at Orlando Health or can be “unrestricted” to Orlando Health for its greatest needs. If you would like to learn more about creating an endowment fund, please contact Tiffany Collier, Sr Director Planned Giving, at (321) 841-7010 or [email protected].

inspire - Summer 2023 16 The Orlando Health Foundation recently hosted an event at the Country Club of Orlando to support the captial campaign expansion efforts of the Level One Trauma Center, located at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC). The event was an opportunity to showcase the $25 million project and raise awareness for the expansion, which aims to increase the capacity and provide lifesaving care at Central Florida’s only Level One Trauma Center. We extend heartfelt thanks to FFVA Mutual, who generously supported the event as the presenting sponsor. The expansion of the Level One Trauma Center is critical in order to keep pace with the community’s growing needs. The overall enhancements to Orlando Health ORMC’s Emergency Department and Level One Trauma Center will: • increase surge capacity for mass casualty intakes, • provide new surgical suites and advanced technology in operating rooms, • expand space for trauma and resuscitation beds, • streamline the ambulance bay, • upgrade medical equipment such as CT machines, • improve and expand communication systems for the air care helicopter, • construct a clinical education center and • renovate the incident command center, including technology updates. inspire - Summer 2023 22 Caregivers Help Turn Challenging Journeys into Hopeful Moments At Orlando Health and Bayfront Health, caregivers do more than just provide treatment. They also offer hope and encouragement that can be instrumental to the healing process. Whether it be a clinical or non-clinical team member – an empathetic smile, a friendly voice or a motivating demeanor can improve a patient’s day for the better. One such example of this is Orlando Health Cancer Institute team members, who were recently recognized by a patient through the Foundation’s Honor a Caregiver initiative. This program provides a mechanism for patients or their family members to communicate their deep appreciation for the care received by donating to their hospital of choice in honor of a caregiver who made a difference in their medical journey. In Bette’s 20 years at Orlando Health, she has seen patients undergo tedious cancer treatments. In one of their most vulnerable and difficult times in life, surrounded by chemotherapy, radiation, surgical oncology, nurses, nutritionists, therapists and counselors, each patient is treated as if they were a member of our own family. The vast number of appointments and ongoing tests can be overwhelming at times, but the extra steps taken by team members does not go unnoticed. After the donation was made in Bette’s and Charlotte’s honor, a member of the Foundation team surpriserecognized them for their impact, and to let them know how important they made this patient feel. When being acknowledged, Bette shared, “I love working at Orlando Health because we always provide patients with the most leading-edge technology.” Consider making a gift to the Orlando Health Foundation or Bayfront Health Foundation in honor of a caregiver(s). Your generosity not only honors and recognizes those who provided excellent treatment, it also allows us to continue providing life-saving care to our community.
