inspire - Winter 2023 2 I hope this issue finds you in good health and high spirits as we approach the end of another year. As we gather with family and friends to celebrate the holiday season, I wanted to express my deepest gratitude to each of you for your unwavering support of the Orlando Health Foundation and Bayfront Health Foundation. Your generosity has been the cornerstone of our mission for decades, but throughout 2023 alone, we have been privileged to witness the positive change we can create together. To name a few, your donations have helped to: • Support continued program expansion at Bayfront Health, • Expand the Emergency Department and Level One Trauma Center at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center, • Provide for the six crucial programs at the Howard Phillips Center for Children and Families, a part of Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, and • Kick off the first of many community gifts to support the new Orlando Health Children’s Pavilion coming in 2026. As we enter this new year, your continued generous support is vital and appreciated. A bold vision has been cast, calling our team and community to help introduce the region’s first and only comprehensive and advanced outpatient facility, located near Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, providing coordinated, specialized care for children and families — the Orlando Health Children’s Pavilion. We look forward to sharing more details throughout this next year concerning how this comprehensive, innovative facility will help improve services, increase patient access and provide growth opportunities. Until then, we are forging ahead in our mission to provide the highest quality healthcare to patients who need it most. I am confident that, with your steadfast support, we can achieve even more significant milestones in the years to come. I extend my warmest wishes for a joyful holiday season to each of you. Thank you, John W. Bozard, President Orlando Health Foundation Bayfront Health Foundation Dear Supporter,

inspire - Winter 2023 4 Orlando Health Cancer Institute Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Cellular Therapy program provides treatment for blood cancers in adults, including leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma. 100th Bone Marrow Transplant In 2021, the first BMT patient rang the bell to signify the end of their treatment. Within the span of two years, the program, led by Yasser A. Khaled, MD, reached a new milestone by completing their 100th bone marrow transplant. A bone marrow transplant provides a potential cure for blood cancer patients when chemotherapy has not been successful. Using the body’s own defenses to seek and destroy malignant cells, treatments such as these are the future for finding a cancer cure. Orlando Health not only wants to provide this level of care to our patients, but also sees the potential in the greater fight against cancer. Growing the team of medical providers and building new lab space, made possible in part through philanthropy, will increase our capacity to care for patients using cellular therapies and allow for a greater number of research studies, including those involving solid tumors. “It is an amazing accomplishment to have so quickly reached the milestone of treating 100 patients through bone marrow transplant — especially with the positive outcomes our patients have experienced,“ says Megan Smith, MSN, APRN-BC, Director of Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. “As we build our reputation nationally, more patients from around the country will seek out Orlando Health for their cancer care which makes us very excited for the future.” Orlando Health Bone Marrow Transplant Team Reaches New Milestone To support the Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy program, visit Give.OrlandoHealth.com/BMT. Having access to BMT and other cellular therapies at Orlando Health has been lifechanging for our patients. It strengthens the continuity of cancer care when the treatments our patients need are offered right here, in one place, from the team of physicians and nurses they know and trust. — Yasser A. Khaled, MD

inspire - Winter 2023 6 In October 2023, Orlando Health opened a 54-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility on the campus of Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital. The facility is the first free-standing comprehensive medical rehabilitation facility in Orange County. The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) has provided accreditation for this new inpatient rehabilitation program, previously located at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC). This transition enables Orlando Health to better care for the growing population of rehabilitation patients. The new facility enhances the program through features such as: • All private patient rooms • Three therapy gyms with state-of-the-art rehabilitative equipment • Dedicated therapy spaces, including quiet areas and an expansive outdoor space • Simulated apartment for activities of daily living Whether having suffered a stroke, traumatic injury, amputation or a variety of other complex conditions, rehabilitation patients typically require specialized care administered in an inpatient setting and with a variety of resources and space. Through this investment in the rehab program, Orlando Health can expand treatment offerings for these patients, giving them the space and technology needed to reach their goals and continue to receive individualized care. Orlando Health Advanced Rehabilitation Institute To make a donation in support of Orlando Health’s rehabilitation program, visit Give.OrlandoHealth.com/Rehab. Feet 2 Feat 5K In 2021, George Wilcox lived a very active life, enjoying running, golfing and sailing. Yet, despite his perceived good health, he suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke and was airlifted to Orlando Health ORMC for life-saving treatment. He survived but was left in a debilitating state, struggling to stand without physical assistance. George worked day in and day out with the Orlando Health ORMC Outpatient Rehab Center team to recover. “It’s been amazing working with the team at Orlando Health. They are excellent and very encouraging,” says George. Inspired by the care he received by the team at Orlando Health, George, his wife, Marcia, and their family created the Feet 2 Feat Walk in May 2023, raising over $11,000 to support rehabilitation care at Orlando Health. Two years after his stroke, George celebrated his progress by walking the distance of a 5K with his family and friends. When he crossed the finish line, he announced it was his "beginning line."
7 OrlandoHealthFoundation.com A New Direction for Behavioral Health Care Improving Access Florida is facing a deficit in the number of mental health care providers available to treat patients. Due to the lack of providers to meet our state’s growing needs, getting in to see a professional in a timely manner is a challenge. For individuals facing mental health issues, especially if in crisis, the long wait for an appointment can feel like an insurmountable obstacle. To address this problem, for adults and teens, Orlando Health is increasing access to providers by extending mental health care into primary care physician (PCP) offices and throughout emergency departments using telehealth services. Key Features of the Approach Doctors will be able to contact a mental health professional to evaluate their patient from anywhere within the Orlando Health network of hospitals, emergency departments or outpatient physician offices. Depending on the results of the mental health evaluation and the patient’s acuity, he or she may choose to: 1. Work with a care coordinator to set up future outpatient treatment, 2. Receive medication from a primary care physician as the start of ongoing mental health care, or 3. Transfer to an inpatient facility when necessary for emergency situations. Whichever option is chosen, Orlando Health team members will continue to follow the patient and ensure their needs are met. “Our patients feel a sense of comfort knowing they have access to a clinician that can help them right then and will continue to support them in receiving care,” says Matthew S. Angelelli, MD. Within the previous system, there was often a breakdown between the physical care of their doctor and the mental health care they needed to seek in the community. Primary care and emergency room physicians lacked the ability to quickly consult with a psychiatrist or licensed mental health counselor. Mental health services are becoming ingrained in emergency rooms, pediatric offices, orthopedics, women’s care and annual wellness visits with a PCP. This new model of care represents a significant step toward reducing the current limitations of mental health care services. This expansion of care will undoubtedly benefit countless individuals who may have previously faced barriers to receiving help. In an era where mental health issues are increasingly recognized as a critical component of overall well-being, Orlando Health is taking a significant step forward in addressing the pressing need for specialized mental and behavioral health care. In the words of Dr. Angelelli, “There is often an emotional component to a person’s physical illness, and vice versa. This framework better aligns Orlando Health physicians to work in tandem with mental health professionals to treat the patient holistically, no matter the care setting.”

inspire - Winter 2023 10 This year, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children was a recipient of a Hyundai Hope On Wheels Impact Award Grant of $100,000 to help fund pediatric cancer research. In celebration of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Hyundai Hope On Wheels held their special “Handprint Ceremony” on September 14, 2023. Patients from the Haley Center for Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer placed their painted handprints on the Hope vehicle – representing the unique and personal journeys they face while battling this disease. “’Every handprint tells a story in the fight against pediatric cancer.’ That is the theme of this year’s annual initiative. It reflects the idea that there are many hands involved in the fight against pediatric cancer – patients, researchers, doctors, parents, supporters and more – and each one plays an important role in this fight. It’s an enduring symbol of our collective hope and progress.” — Michael DePaul, General Manager for the Southern Region at Hyundai Motor America. Each year, the Haley Center sees roughly 100 newly diagnosed cancer patients. These patients face countless treatments, appointments, surgeries and therapies in addition to having all the dreams, activities and aspirations of being a kid. It is thanks to philanthropic partners like Hyundai Hope On Wheels that the team of caregivers can continue to provide and advance treatment options for our patients — helping to get them back to a life of just being a kid. inspire - Winter 2023 12 Walmart and Sam’s Club rallied together to spark good and change kids’ health at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children through their annual Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) campaign. Through Walmart’s and Sam's Club’s belief that every child deserves the chance to live better, they came together to raise more than $494,000 for patients seen at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer. Every dollar raised through this campaign is because of the dedicated efforts of Walmart and Sam’s Club team members and their generous customers and members. By consistently making the ask to donate at the register and hosting creative fundraising events and initiatives, every effort was made by our local stores and clubs to continuously build camaraderie while raising significant funds over the course of the five-week campaign. We could not be more grateful to each Walmart and Sam’s Club team member who supported this year’s campaign with great enthusiasm and a tremendous passion to make a difference. Walmart and Sam’s Club Spark Good to Change Kids’ Health Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart, expressed confidence when he formed the partnership with CMN Hospitals by saying, “The associates will amaze you.” Those words are absolutely true. Team members raised money by hosting: BBQs, potlucks, golf tournaments, Tutu Tuesdays and more.
13 OrlandoHealthFoundation.com For more than 30 years, local Ace Hardware retailers and customers from Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Brevard, Volusia and Flager counties have been making a difference in the lives of the patients and families cared for at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Ace Hardware associates pride themselves on being the helpful place and helping to change kids’ health yearround, one donation at a time. Ace Hardware began its fundraising efforts with their April Round Up campaign. During this month, the red vested heroes rallied their community and gave customers the opportunity to donate their change, raising over $50,000! The retailers didn’t stop their fundraising efforts there. Various locations sold the World’s Finest Chocolate bars, offering their customers a sweet treat at checkout, while others collected change at the register. Many retailers also participated in the annual Ace Hardware Bucket Days promotion in August, giving customers the opportunity to receive a limited-edition bucket for a $5 donation, and in return, they received 20 percent off their purchase. The Ace Hardware teams even got creative with bucket displays to make the weekend and shopping experience truly memorable for all. As the end of the year approaches, Ace Hardware retailers will be hosting their Holiday Round Up campaign in November and December and will once again bring their annual Ace Hardware Christmas Tree Farm event to the hospital. Patients and families will enjoy a memorable experience thanks to our red vested heroes that will include picking out their very own artificial tree, lights and ornaments, all while it is snowing. We could not be more grateful for Ace Hardware retailers in our community and their commitment to our mission. Ace Hardware Red Vested Heroes Make a Difference
inspire - Winter 2023 14 Community Philanthropists Make a Gift Close to Their Home and Heart JoAnn and John Nestor have called St. Petersburg home since 2008. Throughout Pinellas County’s evolution, the Nestors have always been involved in the community and have made it a point to give back to the place they love. Most recently, the Nestors pledged $100,000 to support oncology care at Bayfront Health. Their support comes after a personal experience in 2016 when JoAnn was diagnosed with Stage II cancer. Her physician, now a lifelong friend, thoroughly explained her treatment plan and immediately set it in motion. Experiencing first-hand the avalanche of thoughts and worries that come with a cancer diagnosis, JoAnn does not want quality of care to be one of those concerns for others. Through interventions including chemotherapy and radiation, the treatment plan was successful, and JoAnn is in remission. She now serves on the Bayfront Health Foundation Philanthropy Council and continues to put her beloved community first. The Nestor’s pledge will support Bayfront Health’s upcoming oncology program in the new Medical Pavilion at Institute Square, scheduled to open in 2025. The Pavilion will house multiple oncology specialists and expert physicians providing radiation treatments, laboratory services and oncology surgery in one central location. In partnership with Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute, Bayfront Health will be the premier place to receive state-of-the-art cancer care for patients in the Tampa Bay Area and beyond. $100,000 to Support Oncology Care at Bayfront Health Patients have enough to think about when they lay their heads down on their pillow at night. I don’t want any of those concerns to be if they are getting high-quality, honest care. And that’s what they will receive at Bayfront. — JoAnn Nestor “ “
