DIGEST
Prepared by Dr. Ratna Zuarni Ramli and Mazliyana Zainal Arifin
It is time to enjoy a brand new Raya vibes safely at home.
While Zoom and Meet sound a bit mainstream, one can
connect to the beloved family through social media apps that
enable them to connect with 6 (IG call), 8 (WA call) or even 32
(Facetime) people at a time! Willing to try locally made food
delivery apps? Log on to Mammam or Dah Makan. Though
food choices are not as varied as Food Panda or Grab, it is
worth a try! MizzNina vs Neelofa? QalbyApp vs TheNoor? Both
are great and the best is You and the Quran berpisah tiada cia
cia cia. NO serious work on raya? Empower your digital skills
(online communication, digital media handling, online
creativity), by uploading your 30secs TikTok or Reel video and
understand the limit of its security and safety. Be bold be fun!

Algebra Starts from
Kindergarden?
Prepared by Nor Ashikin Sahrom
In mathematics, equations are very important in our daily life.
Why do we need to learn mathematical equations? It is because
equations are useful to solve our daily life problem, for example
calculating grocery expenses, filling up the gas tank and so on.
Equation is the mathematical representation of those two
things which are equal, one on each side of an ‘equals’ sign
while Algebra is the study of mathematical symbols and the
rules for manipulating these symbols and it is a unifying thread
of almost all of mathematics.
Most of us have been introduced to algebra at a very early age.
We solve basic arithmetic problems and gradually learn to
decrypt complicated one. For example, we might be offered the
following expression:
We calculate the arithmetic and fill in the square with 6. To test
our acquaintance, that simple problem can be presented in
different way like the following:
Copyright 2021 FSKM_UiTMKP 5
Since, we understand the equation then the answer has to be 2!
In Algebra, the box is replaced with a letter, thus, in class,
student might see like the following:
To solve this problem, we can isolate the variable x, applying the
same mathematical operation on both sides of the equality sign
by subtracting 6 with 4. This is the solution in mathematics,
but the problem is actually the very same as previous. Replacing
the box with a letter is the only difference!
Today, we use the internet to search for information. We just
type the keywords and we get thousands of options. Have you
ever thought about the process behind this internet search? It is
similar to mathematics equations. For example, if you search for
“Algebra” within seconds, you may get n number results. The
equation for this is, “keyword sites with (Algebra) = results
(Algebra)”.
6 Copyright 2021 FSKM_UiTMKP
Why should we use letters in algebra? It is because the letters
represent a better way of things that is unknown in real life. Let
say you wanted to know how much it cost to drive your car from
A to B which is about 200 kilometres. The petrol cost you RM2
per litre and you still have fuel to drive up to 60 kilometres. You
can write an equation with x equalling how many kilometres you
drive, and you can use that equation again to figure how much it
would cost you to reach the destination. If you did not place the
x in there, you would have to create the equation each time with
a different distance. Therefore, we should always remember that
any mathematical equations have the potential to change the
world. That is the reason all mathematical equations or algebra
are important in our life :)

Must Have Google Chrome
5 Extensions for Educators
Prepared by Siti Zaharah Mohd Ruslan
Have you used Google products while teaching online? Are you
looking for new ways to involve students when the semester
begins? Do you want to make your life a lot easier for yourself?
Even though you just responded YES to one of these questions,
Chrome extensions are individualised software programmes
that customise your Google experience to match your needs.
Essentially, Chrome extensions are like little digital hacks that
make an educator's life more tolerable, especially during
distancing learning.
All of these extensions are free,
so there's no harm in giving
them a try. You can easily
disable or remove them by
typing chrome://extensions/
into the Chrome address bar, or
right-clicking an extension's
icon in the toolbar to remove it.
Every extension must have a
toolbar icon, hide them without
uninstalling by right-clicking
and selecting Hide in Chrome
Menu.
Here are five free extensions for educators to use at home or
in the classroom! Give them a try and transform your online
experience.

1. Bitmoji
Simply drag and drop your favourite
Bitmoji into Gmail, Google Slides, virtual
tasks, and anywhere else your heart
desires. You can simply scan for the
Bitmoji you like, copy it, and paste it
anywhere with this extension!
2. Kami
Upload PDFs from your desktop or
Google Drive and easily annotate them
with a virtual pen, marker, or highlighter.
You can also use a blank PDF and use
Kami as a virtual whiteboard.
You can present this screen while on Zoom or Google Meet to
annotate PDFs for your class to see. You can also use this with
Google Drive and Google Classroom!
3. Grammarly for Chrome
You've probably seen plenty of ads for Grammarly, which wants
very much to be the official spell and grammar checker for all
your online writing. It's worth to install for the extra check on
every word you write in the browser, from emails to social
media and beyond. It even has a dictionary function, when you
double click a word or phrase on a web page you get a
definition or a link to something related to the term.
When you are typing anywhere in
Chrome, a small, green icon appears
and Grammarly begins to check the
grammar and spelling of your work. If
there’s an error, it is underlined in
red, and the student can see the type
of error you made and correct it.

4. mote: voice notes & feedback
Mote lets you easily add voice comments
and feedback to students’ documents and
assignments. You can use this audio
feedback on Gmail, Google Docs, Slides,
Sheets, Forms, and Classroom. It can also
support transcription in more than 20
world languages, including English,
Spanish, French, Portuguese and Arabic.
5. Dualless
Dualless allows a user to split their
screen so they can work in two tabs
simultaneously. For example, if you
need to watch a video review of a
lesson, they can open and view it in
one tab while taking notes in Google
Docs at the same time.
It splits your browser windows into two by just 2 clicks. The
ratio can be adjusted according to your needs. You may have a
browser window showing on the right that occupies 30% of your
screen. Then the rest of the space leave to Google+. In addition,
you also have a choice of splitting the screen either horizontally
or vertically.

FSKM Talking Circle
ACTIVITIES FSKM 1/2021
Prepared by Nurul Aityqah binti Yaacob
Talking circles can be used for brainstorming, problem solving,
and decision making. The main goal of this program is to create
a secure and non-judgmental environment where every
participant can help discuss difficult or important issues.
Consequently, on March 5, 2021, FSKM Kampus Kuala Pilah
has organised a Talking Circle Series 1/2021 online via Google
Meet.
The first speaker, Puan Norul Fadhilah binti Ismail, a senior
lecturer at FSKM Kampus Kuala Pilah discussed an article
titled: “A Mathematical Formulation to Design a House Pop-
Up Card Using Paper Folding Technique”. The article was
written and published in the Journal of Advanced Research in
Dynamical and Control Systems in 2019 by Nur Lina Abdullah,
Norul Fadhilah Ismail, Nik Nadhilah Mohd Yusof, Izreen Aqila
Sezali, Nor Zahanim Mod Zubir and Siti Azureen Mad Safri.

The second speaker for this program is Dr. Nur Ida Aniza
binti Rusli, also a senior lecturer at FSKM Kampus Kuala
Pilah. She spoke about an interesting topic in Software
Development titled: “The Importance of Functional Size
Measurement in Software Development Costing”. It is
common for software projects to produce more than the
budgeted amount.
All of the FSKM lecturers who participated in this programme
gave positive feedback and expressed an interest in
participating again in the future.

One Day Course of Mobile Apps
Development at Kolej Komuniti Kuala Pilah
Prepared by Jamaliah Mohd Taib dan Norlida Othman
On 25th March 2021, 14 lecturers fromFSKM Kampus Kuala
Pilah had attended a one-day course on Mobile Apps
Development at Kolej Komuniti Kuala Pilah. The purpose of
the course is to develop mobile apps by using Google Sites
and Thunkable apps. Thunkable is an app that will enable
anyone to create a beautiful and powerful mobile app as
simple as doing “drag and drop” actions. The course starts
with creating a few web pages using the Google Sites
platform and later, linking the web pages to the mobile app
created using the Thunkable apps.
The instructors had wholeheartedly conducted the course as
they are also instructors for the mobile development course
there. At the same time, they are also developers of some
mobile apps currently being used at Kolej Komuniti Kuala
Pilah. It was very insightful to be able to learn from experienced
instructors. The participants had enjoyed the course since they
had the opportunity to create a mobile app with the guidance of
the instructors.
Copyright 2021 FSKM_UiTMKP 17
This course was a learning
process for the participants.
Although it was hard to
assimilate the whole process
for a one-day course, a few
FSKM lecturers were able to
create simple mobile apps by
the end of the session. Later,
the participants can practice
what they have learned from
this course and implement it
for their ODL classes. By the
end of the course, the
knowledge learned can also
be shared with colleagues at
UiTM Kampus Kuala Pilah.
