well-being of the community to have t h e same goal to develop on the basis of
morality, goodness, and living according to Buddhist philosophy In principle, each
community already has Buddhism as a base. If the community together sets a concrete
goal in life, it can set guidelines for community development and create a Thai society
for peace according to the Buddhist guidelines.

Strengthening community development will have a positive impact on the
whole nation. In particular, Thai society is mostly a Buddhist society. Development, if
relying on Buddhism as a base for social development, must certainly be peaceful,
such as i n Bhutan, which brings Buddhism as a base for administration by bringing
happiness in Buddhism as a base for government administration. B u i l d i n g Buddhist
ethics in Thai society must rely on monks, schools, and communities, or may be called
"Bowon" to cooperate with each other to create a true Buddhist society. but must rely
on the cooperation of that community as a whole, in society, culture, economy,
politics, a n d environment, resulting in sustainable development a n d Affecting the

overall happiness of the country With the saying that "Thai economy progresses Society
has no problem Sustainable development ".

Ethical Problems in Thailand
The problem is that people in society lack morals. They misconduct five
precepts more, causing dishonesty, to hurting others easily, there is no reason to use
emotion. Lacking harmony does not recognize respect for other people's rights and is
not ready to listen to the opinions of others. no self-confidence unknown
responsibility, sacrifice do not know how to use wisdom to be patient, and selfishness
not appreciating the importance of Buddhist teachings. From Amorn Amphai
R u n g r u e n g ’s research studied the treatment behavior and the violation of the five
precepts of Buddhists Bangkok found that the attitude towards treatment and abuse
of precepts was the most agreeable, ie, performing duties with dishonesty, causing
progression in career. the most disagreement is killing animals is an exciting sport. Most
people violate the 5 precepts, killing animals. they pick up things from parents to use
without notice. they have sex with their lover before marriage, lie to parents, drink
alcohol, and will be strictly treated only when entering the meditation, and the few
that have never preserved the precepts the place that is suitable for preserving
precepts are the most temple, followed by at home. and workplace respectively. the
problem is that the Thai people are unable to keep the 5 precepts because society
has changed rapidly with technological progress. not interested in religious doctrines
and cravings, wanting to have humans insatiable. (Amorn Aumpai Rungrueng, study of
treatment behaviors and abuse of the five precepts of Buddhists’ Bangkok, Master of
Buddhist Thesis Graduate School, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, 2011)
the research of Phra Maha Samranya Ñanasungvaro (Pinson) spoke that the problems
that are present in Thai society are very current. the problem of drug addiction that is
spread in Thai society. because of lack of principles, and practices for humans, which
is called the precept, especially the fifth precept, which is considered to be the most
important aspect of the story of spirits, spirits, and drunkenness by seeing the blame
for liquor and drunken things that are dangerous Is a prohibition by one part, toxic to society,
punishable by destroying physical and mental health. (Phra Maha Samranya Ñanasungvaro
(Pindon), the study of the effects of the abuse of the fifth precepts on Thai society, Master

of Buddhist thesis Graduate School, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, 1999). The
success of the development in the last 50 years. the things that come with success
are also unsuccessful. The coin has two sides always. That is, the problem and
increasing strength will become a big problem for Thai society in the age of
globalization, that is, social problems can be summarized as short messages that
should be considered "Progressive economy, social problems, unsustainable development.

deteriorated. People’s mind of the congregation is deprived of heart. Weak family
Social conditions, villages that have been strong, are in the same condition. It can
summarize as short issues as follows; Thailand has a rapid growth in t h e material.
Whether it is a country, a road, using technology Economic growth the values and Thai
society have changed clearly in many ways, such as the popularity of objects, too, the
luxury of luxury, the rich people, regardless of how rich they are the competition took
advantage Regardless of the moral, ethical, impartial conditions of inequality in society.
The poverty of the Thai people in rural areas is still in a state of social deterioration.
Which is caused by mental deterioration Can be seen from drugs, prostitution, AIDS,
and other problems. The neglect of religion and old traditions, it made to caused
mental deterioration.

Important Buddhist ethics that Thai society needs
Wasin Inthasara (1986) gave meaning, to ethics, meaning behavior, actions, and
proper thinking. except what should be done in what should be done with wisdom,
carefully know why correct, timely and personal. therefore, the creation of important
Buddhist ethics for Thais to be born with wisdom, has two factors that will contribute
to the building of Buddhist ethics, which consists of factors that will result in attitudes.
According to the Buddha's speech, Paratokosa (another’ s utterance; inducement by
others; hearing or learning from others), the environment must be good, such as
teaching, introducing, conveying, advertising, telling, news, annotations, explanations,
explanations, learning from others here. The more you listen to the dharma, the
knowledge or advice from the person who is friendly. Phra Phromkunaporn (P.Payutto),
(2012) Yonisomanasikarn (reasoned attention; systematic attention; genetical

reflection; analytical reflection) making in the heart by depriving using correct thinking,
knowledge, contemplation, insight and by way of finding a reason to search detecting
throughout the line, distinguishing it from that problem or seeing it in accordance with
the conditions and the relationship of the factors, without taking the feelings of his
own prejudice into capturing called the way of wisdom.

Buddhist ethics or ethics for the promotion of people in Thai society urgently
to be moral, i.e. good behavior, behave like 3 things, good acting, honesty, do good
things right b e h a v e like physical, honest, verbal say, good things right Behave like
verbally, honestly, think of the good and correct things, w e h a v e like a good heart,
b e h a v e in the correct way of the precept. We called 5 precepts. It i s called
Acariyavinaya Discipline is a practice for learning the practicing and the way to be good
lay people. Mangalatthadipani in thai Translation (2/63-94.) has included 5 precepts,
and 4 verses: Panatibatha, Intending to abstain from living animals. atinatana refrained
from taking part i n it nor where the owner provides. Kamasumisajara, jealousy,
Intentionally refrain from sexual misconduct, Lying, Intentionally refrain from lying in
t h e 1 0 th commandment. So the humanitarian principles of humanity. It c a u s e s a
complete human being as a faithful message to Buddha to conclude that the person
who is omitted from killing animals is the omission of burglary and is omitted from
sexual misconduct. It is free from abstinence from the use of intoxicating alcohol and
spirits as a cause of negligence Inevitably presenting happiness. The faithful in this
world i s the abstinence from killing animals. Abstain from theft Abstain from sexual
misconduct. In training Ethics, t h e r e f o r e , aims at Paratokosa c o n s i s t of a good
environment. with the principle of being friendly as for the second factor,
contemplation or insight, the use of wisdom, which must be considered to use the
correct mindset, being a karmic as an external component and contemplation as an
internal element the building of Buddhist ethics requires the use of the above
principles to be effective. which some communities have applied and had the effect,
such as t h e Buddhist community of Taiwan or Cheachi School, Fang District, Chiang
Mai Province Has adopted the principles of Buddhism teaching and learning in concrete
ways taught to know humanity first and then add academics to be good, virtuous and
good as well.

Strengthening Buddhist ethics in the model community
Thailand is the only country that has not been colonized by Westerners in the
colonial era. It can be said that Thailand has a spiritual center, which is a monarchy
that supports Buddhism. He is a Person, who is the model of the introduction of
Buddhist teachings into many developments based His Majesty, the author, invites His
Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej. As discussed in the graduation ceremony of
Chulalongkorn University on Thursday, July 12, 1990, which was said about ethics in
Student conduct "Being a graduate, besides being able to know the knowledge and
intelligence of a person in the use of technology, can also be observed at actions,
words, and thoughts. when doing, speaking, or confiscating, try to make good, speak
well, and always think well. If it is not good, it means doing with intention and sincerity
to be truly creative, no matter whether will be a small task or job big tries to do the
best to achieve the goals and benefits of doing that completely. not by deception or
deliberate impurity speaking well means talking, speaking, and giving benefits. such as
saying things that will cause knowledge, intelligence, prosperity, goodness, harmony,
and harmony d o e s not say what is not t r u l y something that causes confusion or
destroys goodness, prosperity, stability thinking well means thinking with consciousness
with consciousness, impartiality, not being induced by prejudice. Correct with the
principles of reason, reality, and Morality, ethics is the basis for the diagnosis to make
that idea free from danger. It is useful truly. "
Sumet Tantivejkul, (2006) said that cultivating morality and ethics for youth
through educational and religious processes c r e a t e s a knowledge base. Morality or
ethics i s in line with His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej That said about religion
"People must have a religion, a thought or a thought that is a guideline in their own
heart and must be educated in various knowledge. both in the mind, both in the
object, in order to assemble the body in order to live, both are important and
inseparable. This is consistent with the research of Somsuk Nitithai Have studied the
subject "Buddhist Youth Development in Thai Society". the research found that The
beginning of the development of youth in the Buddhist way is right thought.
encouraging desirable characteristics of youth by using the threefold principles. It
should strengthen the youth that will be the future of the next nation that is 1) not

7

self-harming 2) not persecuting others 3) responsible for duty 4) self-development and
helping others and society and promoting desirable characteristics in Youth
development to come up with discipline development in the development of
emotional maturity, development of thinking ability, together with social institutions
in teaching and exemplary for youth to achieve desirable behavior of society. as the
saying that planting plants must prepare the soil will eat, prepare food, to develop the
nation, the country must develop people first. If any nation does not have ethics, there
are no moral rules, who want to do what they do according to their own satisfaction.
There is no anchor as a guideline for the country. people living in that community
must be trained and have a proper way of life that is consistent with the concept of
Phra Phromkunaporn (P.Payutto) said that ethics is the principle of living, consisting of
morals, and moral rules. the noble ethics are called chastity means good conduct or
noble life or wisdom meditation. the Buddhist ethical principles that should encourage
every organization in Thailand.

In Thailand, Buddhism is a religion that has a very respectable person but lacks
a center of learning, teaching Buddhism in Thailand is wise not to believe in faith only,
which is most important. The leader of the Dharma informs the public that this is
important to the monks, must have quality, must understand the principles of Buddhist
discipline deeply, must have certain qualities such as tolerance to difficulties, not avid
in fortune or a lot of greed. concentrating its practice for the benefit of Buddhists,
holding their own in justice, to act with intelligence. keeping the carelessness always
alive. therefore, the temple is the center of the community a n d should create a
learning center for Buddhists to understand. access to the principles of the Buddha
and lead can practice on their own which is consistent with the research of Phra Maha
t h a t Apakaro and staff to studied the subject Model for enhancing the health and
learning of society according to Buddhism. the results of the research show that the
integration of Buddhist principles and the development of Thai society at present has
concepts and methods for enhancing the health and learning of Buddhist societies.
can lead to environmental development creative behavior the development of mind,
intelligence, and social empowerment Able to develop individuals and society
according to the principle of "Phawana 4", ie first, the body of prayer focuses on

8

physical development Physical training to become a system of regulations and
promote self-development Including understanding the relationship between the
physical environment and sustainability. which is consistent with the concept of Wasin
Inthasa (1998) that Buddhist ethics is an ethical criterion. Which the Lord Buddha knew
to have placed it as a standard for human behavior from the beginning and high In
order for humans to live a good life as ideal human beings. It can reach to be a perfect
human being with intelligence a n d have the most complete happiness in order to
reach the highest goodness, there must be a guideline to create a cause If you want
the highest results, you must create a reasonable cause. Buddhism is to be truly.

The world today is a globalized world, without borders on information. it is to
develop a scientific thinking system. In particular, Thailand has written human capital
development in the economic and the National Society development plan. Especially
in the development of Buddhism as a base. This is consistent with the research of
Wanchai Sutam (2012) by studying the development of human capital Buddhism
globalization showed how to develop human capital by Buddhism aims to handle
more people into excellent people and good people. they should have precious
wisdom to know the truth. to develop yourself to have better immunity. Buddhism is
the principle of developing people in society (precepts). The developing the mind to
have good mental health. It is called mental health (meditation) and development to
reach the level of truth (wisdom). Buddhist principles have been applied in living in
accordance with changing social conditions. It has researched Phrakhru
Paladsuwattanamethakun (Chaiyan Suebkrapan) (2012) to s t u d y research on the
integration of Buddhist ethics in Thai people's lives in today's society. The result of
research found that Integrating Buddhist ethics In the life of the Thai people in today's
society can be done by applying the principles of primary level to integrate with the
lives of the general people, including The general public, primary, intermediate level
are integrated with the lifestyle of the Dharma practitioners and the main leaders. The
highest level to integrate life, including monks and novices and new knowledge about
the form of integrating the Buddhist ethics in the lives of Thai people today, ie free
model, is the principle, that is born from integrating the principles of Buddhism to be

9

in line with the current lifestyles of Thai people with all occupations when integrated
and able to solve various problems that happen in life to attenuate it.

Strengthening Buddhist ethics in society requires many parties to cooperate.
because when the community is strong, leading to the strength of society and the
nation too. a pattern has been created. The model community of applying Buddhist
principles. the community has adopted the principles of Buddhism in concrete ways.
It is a confirmation that Buddhist principles are not just words. Or in the locker's locker
box Looking like an intangible sacred item but in fact, the Buddha's teachings are the
principles of practice in life. because the Lord Buddha applied the principle of life from
life. life is complicated and complicated. living life is not complicated, not
complicated. because Buddhism principles teach u s to use life as easily as possible.
there is an obvious example, Phutthasat Phikkhu that teaches Buddhists to be simple
When looking back to the Buddha's time, the Buddha lived the simplest life, as an
example person. it will mention the model of community to adopt the principles of
Buddhism is Phrabat Huay Tom Community, Li District, Lamphun Province. Phra Bat
Huai Tom Temple Is the largest temple i n Li District. The temple is for the hill tribe
villages. In the year 1971, there were Karen immigrants from Mae Tuen, Mae Ramat
district, Tak province. The family lived near Wat Phra Phutthabat Huay Tom, a total of
13 families. They are believing the way of Buddhism of Luang Pu, Kruba Chaiyawongsa
Phatthana (Kruba Wong) who teaches to make merit and practice dharma all the time,
there are groups of Karen immigrants increasing. mostly from Tak, Chiang Mai, and Mae
Hong Son Although Luang Pu Krabawong died today, Karen's immigrants of living
increased.

In the Ban Phra Bat Huay Tom community, everyone still respects and adheres
to the good things that he Always teaches. thus making it still a Buddhist community
where visitors can absorb the beauty of the Karen lifestyle with Buddhism through a
strong moral community. Important merit works include merit, tradition, change of
cloth, and occupy the body of the crop body, Kruba Chaiyawongsa Pattana is
Considered an annual event here. It will be held on 16 - 17 May each year die on the
day of 17 May 2000, which corresponded to (Wesak Day), but the physical crop body.
H i s body of him is not rotting, so it is faithful. Kruba Chaiyawongsa Pattana Is an

10

important Buddhist In the Karen hill tribe people in Na Sai Sub-district and throughout
the upper north, including Buddhists from neighboring provinces and Bangkok, giving
great respect. he created artifacts. In many places of worship, such as Phra Phutthabat,
Huay Tom, Phra Mahathat Chedi, a n d Si Wiang Chai, In addition, Buddhist teachings
were distributed to villagers and taught villagers to stop killing animals. Ban Phrabat
Huay Tom Community Not eating meat throughout the village until the present. they
are the initiator of the first 5 precepts in Thailand. until being considered as a current
practice throughout the country at this time, so every year when the anniversary of
the death will be Make merit, change clothes crop body Luang Pu Kruba In order for
the pupil to show respect for faith, gratitude and making merit to be a royal charity to
the King. (Center for Religious Information, Department of Religious Affairs, Ministry of
Culture. Phra Bat Huay Tom Temple, [Online])

Here the villagers of the Phrabat Huay Tom community have faith in Buddhism.
They are vegetarian throughout the village. every morning, the villagers will go to make
merit in the bowl, offering food for the monk at Phra Phutthabat Huay Tom Temple.
Which a r e the village’s temple and the largest in Li District. The rule of visiting here
and this community is forbidden to eat meat and not b r i n g meat into the village.
Villagers will not feed animals for food. they will only feed pets such as dogs or cats.
during the monks' day, (holy day in Buddhism). the villagers will bring vegetables and
fruits to prepare to give offerings to vegetables at the temple. which is a tradition that
the villagers have practiced for a long time and began to become more popular in the
days of Luang Pu Kruba Chaiyawongsa developed into an abbot. he is a developer
beloved of the Lanna people, Karen hill tribes. therefore, there is a cultural way
according to Luang Pu Kruba Chaiyawongsa development such as vegetarianism
because Luang Pu Kruba taught that if we hurt animals, next the animals will come to
h u r t us, a n d disease will follow If we eat vegetarian, we are not hurting anyone.
Villagers, therefore, eat vegetarian. and abide by the good things that Luang Pu Kruba
taught today. this teaching is consistent with the history of Phra Bat Huay Tom, In the
modern era, there were two Lua people named Mr. Kaew Ma Muang and Mr. Phaya.
Along with 8 hunters from Thoen Into the wild hunting came to see the Buddha that
came to please this area, therefore brought the fresh meat that was brought to the

11

Lord Buddha. but the Buddha did not flesh meat. the hunters took rice and vegetables.
It boiled at the side of the River. Then once cooked, put i n the bowl when Buddha
finished, thought for them. they listen until faith, therefore requesting the Buddha to
step on the stone to be a footprint Enshrined as a worship of the Buddhist company.

Therefore, Phra Bat Huay Tom Temple is currently a tourist attraction. that is
suitable for making merit and learning a b o u t the impressive community of Karen
people. Travelers who like to travel in a lifestyle. they will be able to experience, live
and absorb the goodness of the way of life. "Karen people" in Phrabat Huay Tom
community with a strong faith in Buddhism that remains a Buddhist way to see
concrete.
